It's a fourth successive League Cup final for Manchester City and it means they will be playing Tottenham in the final at Wembley on April 25. United have now lost their fourth semi-final in 12 months under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which he said there would be "no excuses" for in the build-up to this match should that happen. It's a deserved City win as they knock out their city rivals for the second year in a row at the semi-final stage.

- Yellow cardLuke ShawManchester United
YELLOW! For Shaw for a poor challenge on City's right flank. De Bruyne swings the cross in but it misses everyone and goes out for a goal-kick.
THREE minutes of added time in this enthralling Manchester derby.
Here is that brilliant goal from Fernandinho...
- OffFredManchester United
- OnDonny van de BeekManchester United
SUB! Donny van de Beek comes on for the booked Fred. Too little too late surely. City deserve this victory on the balance of play. They have defended excellently tonight with Dias and Stones looking impressive as a partnership. Still a few minutes to play, though, of course...
- GoalFernandinhoManchester City
GOAL!! A stunning second from City as Fernandinho smashes the ball into the bottom corner! That must seal it! A corner is headed clear straight to the Brazlian outside the area who showed phenomenal technique to volley the ball past a helpless Henderson! It's the 35-year-old's first goal in over two years.
Shaw's cross almost finds Maguire at the far post but Fernandinho rises highest to meet it and head away. Good defending.
SUB! Rodri is on for Mahrez and it appears City want to protect their slender lead.
YELLOW! Cancelo is booked by referee Martin Atkinson for his protests at a foul he committed on Rashford and the squaring up to Luke Shaw. It was certainly a foul.
- OffScott McTominayManchester United
- OnMason GreenwoodManchester United
NO PENALTY! Martial goes down in the box very easily and the referee is not convinced. He probably should have been booked for simulation but there we have it. SUB! Greenwood is on for McTominay.
BIG CHANCE! Pogba picks out Fernandes on the edge of the area and he tries to curl the ball into the top corner, but he whips it wide of Steffen's left post! That was a really chance to level but he could not get the ball out of his feet cleanly enough. It looks like Mason Greenwood is about to come on.
- Yellow cardFredManchester United
YELLOW! For Fred for a rash challenge on Gundogan.
A fierce shot from Fernandinho richochets off Maguire and into the arms of Henderson.
Martial tries to square for Rashford at the near post but Dias makes a great interception and United have a corner. Fernandes' cross is headed over the bar by Maguire. It looked as though a slight touch from Stones just before put the United captain off.
BRILLIANT SAVE! Mahrez surges through the heart of the United defence and he curls a shot aiming for the top corner, but Henderson once again produces a fine save to tip it over! Henderson has had an excellent game so far.
Sterling attempts a quick one-two with Mahrez but the England forward strays offside. City are playing with confidence and with great fluidity right now.
Here is that John Stones goal...
CLOSE! The corner comes out to Cancelo on the right. He crosses to the far post and Foden attempts to slide in and meet it, but he can't quite get there and the ball bounces out for a goal-kick. A toenail on that and it's in...
GOOD SAVE! City counter and Gundogan chooses Foden on his left. He floats a ball into the penalty box and Sterling's header is a good one, but Henderson does well to get down low and tip it around the post!
SO CLOSE! Cancelo drives a brilliant shot on goal but it rises just over the bar! City are keen to build on their momentum right now.
- GoalJohn StonesManchester City
GOAL!!! Stones gives City the lead! Foden's cross from a free-kick into the area reaches Stones at the far post. It's a low ball which bounces off him and into the net! He scores his first goal in over three years!
- Yellow cardFernandinhoManchester City
Pogba is taken down by Fernandinho and the City midfielder is booked for his heavy sliding challenge which cleaned out the France international.
Luke Shaw's dangerous cross into the area from a free-kick is acrobatically cleared away by Dias after a Pogba flick at the near post.
- 2nd Half
We're back underway for the second half!
- End of 1st Half
Mahrez's strike from range is off target and Guardiola is already walking off down the tunnel moments before the whistle. United have held off the City attack so far with the visitors having the ball twice in the net but both were ruled out. It's a stalemate in the derby.
ONE minute of added time at the end of this entertaining first half.
We've hit a lull in this with neither side giving the other the edge. Slight appeals for a handball after Stones extends his arm in the area when meeting a bobbling Rashford cross, but the referee waves away the protests.
Manchester City are struggling to find a way past this compact United defence. This is such an evenly matched contest so far with both having squandered good opportunities to take the lead.
United have looked a bit sharper in these last few minutes as McTominay fires an audacious drive on goal over the bar. How we have not had a goal yet is anyone's guess.
Sterling combines with De Bruyne but Shaw makes a great tackle to prevent him from surging into the box. City on top at the moment.
Dias makes a timely sliding block to deny Rashford the opening goal in this end-to-end contest! United crowd around Steffen for the corner and Shaw's inswinger is met by Maguire, but he nods it wide!
NO GOAL! The third time a goal has been chalked off for offside. Zinchenko plays a lovely weighted pass to Foden who outpaces Wan-Bissaka and finishes through Henderson's legs, but it's been ruled out.
Fernandinho's lofted pass finds De Bruyne but his low cross into the area is cleared behind by Lindelof. Mahrez's corner is played short to Gundogan and then back to the Algeria international, but his ball clipped into the area is headed clear by Pogba.
Fred's driven pass reaches Martial between the two centre backs, but he's offside. De Bruyne's excellent strike in the 13th minute off the post is as close as we've got to a goal so far... well a legal one, anyway, with two chalked off for offside in the opening five minutes.
Wan-Bissaka's tackle on Foden is a bad one and City have a free-kick in United's half. The tempo has dropped considerably from the opening ten minutes. Both teams seem content to take a breather for a moment.
Man City are knocking the ball around and United have now not touched the ball for at least two minutes now. Mahrez tries an intricate pass into Gundogan in the area which United can clear.
OFF THE POST! From outside the area, De Bruyne rifles a venomous strike on goal, it has the better of Henderson but it smashes off the woodwork! That was so unlucky.
Fernandes is not happy at all with Fernandinho's tackle on him which has resulted in a United free-kick. A goal feels imminent if the game continues to be played at this ferocious pace.
Eventually City get the corner away. This game has been end-to-end and we're not even ten minutes in!
GREAT SAVE! Sterling loses the ball in a vital area to McTominay who plays a reverse pass to Fernandes. The Portugal international attempts to curl it into the top corner from outside the box, but Steffen does excellently well to tip it away for a corner!
Pogba's floated cross from the left is well beyond the reach of Rashford at the far post. He perhaps could have played in Martial at the near post who lost his marker.
NO GOAL! Another goal ruled out in the opening five minutes! It's been so open as Foden's low ball into the area from the left is tapped in by Gundogan, but he was just in front of the backline and it's rightly chalked off.
NO OWN GOAL! A long ball from Henderson reaches Martial, he plays in Rashford whose low driven shot is parried by Steffen, off Stones and into the back of the net! Fortunately for the City defender and Steffen they can breathe a sigh of relief as Rashford's run in behind was deemed offside and confirmed by VAR.
City start well. Fernandinho tries to slide in De Bruyne but the ball is too heavy and goes out for a goal-kick. Mahrez is starting as the main striker this evening with De Bruyne back in midfield.
- 1st Half
We are underway!
The teams are out onto the pitch on a freezing cold night at Old Trafford. City enter wearing special retro shirts with the number eight on them to commemorate the passing of club legend Colin Bell.
Last night Tottenham beat 10-man Brentford 2-0 in the first semi-final, meaning we could see Jose Mourinho face his old club in the final at Wembley on Sunday, April 25. However, Manchester City have won the last three League Cups so this derby looks set to be quite the spectacle as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to end his semi-final woes.
We have no words for this except that, yes, he is on the bench this evening due to every other senior Man City goalkeeper - other than Steffen who starts tonight - being out with Covid-19.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Jurgen Klopp by appearing to sarcastically reference Rafa Benitez's famous 'facts' rant at Sir Alex Ferguson.
After Liverpool lost to Southampton on Monday, Klopp bemoaning the referee failing to award a spot kick, said: "I hear now that Manchester United had more penalties in two years than I had in five-and-a-half years. I've idea if that's my fault or how that can happen."
When asked about these comments ahead of his side's Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Manchester City tonight, Solskjaer said: "That’s a fact.
"It's a fact that we've got more than him but I don't know how many penalties they've had."
Manchester United are in the building...
There will be a moment of remembrance before this evening's game for Manchester City legend and former England international Colin Bell, who passed away aged 74 on Tuesday after a short illness. The ex-midfielder made almost 500 appearances for City, scoring 152 goals, during a 13-year period in Manchester and won 48 caps for his country.
For Manchester City, Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus are on the bench after recovering from Covid-19. Sergio Aguero is on the bench this evening. Goalkeepers Ederson, Scott Carson and Cole Palmer have all tested positive for coronavirus so Zach Steffen starts in goal once again.
