That's not quite the game that we were expecting, but Real Madrid come away with the three points they so desperately needed. That just about keeps them in contention at the top of La Liga, although their performance was far from convincing. Nevertheless, they claim the victory and move on.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 3-2 Malaga
Is there one last chance left in this game for Malaga? They are just seconds away from suffering a defeat here, but that doesn't quite tell the whole story of their performance today.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Real Madrid look a bit more secure in their lead now. Malaga seem to have been knocked out of their stride by the changes made by both sides over the past five minutes.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnBorja MayoralReal Madrid
Benzema comes off to a standing ovation. The Frenchman has answered some of his critics this past week.
RONALDO GOAL DOESN'T STAND! Ronaldo tucks away from finish after a Real Madrid attack, but the flag is up for offside. Vazquez wasn't offside and neither was Ronaldo. Strange call.
It must be said that this is a pretty unorthodox system from Real Madrid and Zidane in the final few minutes of the game. He's playing with two full backs and a winger on the left side.
Malaga are indeed still pressing and probing. They are playing with 10 men at the moment following an injury to one of their players, but they are still imposing themselves.
- OffToni KroosReal Madrid
- OnTheo HernandezReal Madrid
Theo comes on for Kroos, which suggests that Zidane is attempting to shore up the left wing area.
There is still a feeling that Malaga could claim something from this game. Of course, Real Madrid have been in this sort of situation before this season and allowed points to slip.
WHAT A CHANCE! Rosales found himself with so much time and space inside the Real Madrid penalty area, but the Malaga right back can't keep his cool and drags his shot well wide.
There was a visible look of relief on the face of Ronaldo there. Imagine he hadn't scored that rebound. His La Liga scoring drought is over and that's an important goal for Real.
- GoalCristiano RonaldoReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 3 (77 mins - Cristiano Ronaldo) Malaga 2. Ronaldo's initial penalty kick is saved by Malaga, but the Real Madrid number seven is quick enough to catch the rebound and finish at the second attempt.
PENALTY KICK TO REAL MADRID! Modric is felled in the box following a lazy challenge.
Is there a change Zidane can make to change things in the final 15 minutes of the match? Theo and Ceballos are out warming up on the touchline. Might they come on?
This Malaga team are very comfortable at playing the ball out from the back rather than just lumping it long. That's giving them a much better shot at relieving the pressure on their defence.
Real Madrid win a corner kick, but they don't make the most of it. It's not just that Malaga are playing well, which they are, it's that Real Madrid are making the wrong decisions.
Real Madrid are coasting through this game at the moment, and not in a good way. Is there a winner left for one of these two sides? Malaga actually look more likely at the moment.
There's a real tension among the home fans at the Bernabeu now. You get the feeling that if things stay the way they are, this could be the result that turns a lot of supporters.
Juanpi can be a little unpredictable, and there is a sense that he's not the kind of player who will be enthused by a relegation battle, but he has the quality to trouble Real Madrid.
- OffKekoMálaga CF
- OnJuanpiMálaga CF
Juanpi comes on for the away side as Malaga make their final change of the match.
What is happening with Ronaldo in La Liga at the moment? He looks out of sorts, but what makes it all the more bizarre is that he is scoring for fun in the Champions League.
RONALDO MISCUE! The Real Madrid number seven should have found the net. All he needed to do was force home a finish from close range following a Varane knock down, but he made no contact.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnLuka ModricReal Madrid
That's not the change we were expecing. Modric comes on, but it's Isco who is withdrawn.
- OffAdalberto PeñarandaMálaga CF
- OnBorja BastonMálaga CF
Penaranda comes off and Baston on for the away side. Are they going all out for a win?
You have to say Casilla should have done much better with that shot from Castro. It was pretty much straight at the Real Madrid goalkeeper, but he allowed it past him and into the net.
Before this game, Malaga hadn't scored a single away goal in La Liga. But they have netted twice at the Bernabeu this afternoon! This has been atrocious defending from Real.
- GoalChory CastroMálaga CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 Malaga 2 (57 mins - Chory Castro). Malaga have scored another equaliser! Castro was left with far too much space about 20 yards out, striking towards goal. Should Casilla have done better with that effort? It slipped through his hands.
There is a growing sense here that Malaga are starting to grow in confidence and are enjoying some possession in the opposition half. Real Madrid are slipping deeper and deeper.
It also looks like Real Madrid might be about to make a change. Modric is out warming up. The Spanish champions have missed the presence of the Croatian in midfield today.
Ronaldo has been kept quiet at the start of the second half. The Portuguese forward is desperate to end his scoring drought in La Liga. He just can't find the net in the league.
Will Malaga make a change soon? Juanpi is down on the touchline warming up. He would give the visitors more of a threat in the final third. He could give Real Madrid problems.
KROOS SHOT ON GOAL! Real Madrid hit out on the counter attack, with Benzema setting up the German midfielder for the shot. Roberto did well to palm it round the post.
Zidane will want more from his Real Madrid side in this second half. They were probably the better team in the opening 45 minutes, but the French coach will surely want more control.
Malaga have been a lot better than many expected them to be. They have scored their first away goal of the season and have carried a threat of their own in the final third of the pitch.
The controversy of the final act of the first half is still raw for Malaga. They have a strong case that they were robbed of a goal. How could the referee blow the whistle at that point?
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Real Madrid are 2-1 up over Malaga.
What did you make of the first half at the Bernabeu? Are Malaga somewhat unfortunate to be behind? Has Zidane got his tactics right for this game? Let me know your thoughts!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 2-1 Malaga. The away side have played their part in the opening 45 minutes, but Casemiro's header is the difference between the two sides at the break.
BAYSSE... HAS HE SCORED? Well, the first half ends on some controversy. Baysse heads home from a freekick, but did the referee blow the half time whistle just before he made the header?
RONALDO HEADER SAVED! The Real Madrid number seven can't believe that header hasn't gone in. Roberto makes the save to prevent Ronaldo from finding the net. Good effort.
Apologies for the sporadic updates of this game. Some technical problems on our end of things, but hopefully they have been sorted now. Yes, we turned it off and on again. Did the trick.
- GoalCasemiroReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 (21 mins - Casemiro) Malaga 1. The hosts hit back immediately, with Casemiro arriving late in the box to get on the end of a Kroos cross. His header was too strong for Roberto to keep out of the net.
- GoalDiego RolánMálaga CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 Malaga 1 (18 mins - Diego Rolan). Malaga haven't scored an away goal all season, but they have equalised at the Bernabeu. Rolan pulled down a cross inside the box and slammed home a finish past Casilla.
There's also a start for Vellejo this afternoon. He is highly rated at Real Madrid, but he has looked rather shaky in the first few minutes of this match. A few nervous clearances.
CARVAJAL CHANCE! The Real Madrid right back got round the outside of the Malaga backline to get in behind and get on the end of a diagonal ball, but he could only draw the save.
You have to feel a little bit sorry for Ronaldo. He did so well to angle that header towards goal from such a tight angle, but at least Benzema was on hand to make the chance count.
Benzema has come in for a lot of criticism of late, but he now has three goals in the space of a week. The Frenchman is still showing his worth to this Real Madrid team.
- GoalKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (9 mins - Karim Benzema) Malaga 0. There's the opening goal and it has fallen to Benzema! Ronaldo struck the bar with a header from an extremely tight angle, but the Frenchman was on hand to finish the rebound from close range.
Real Madrid were bright in the first few minutes of this match, but Malaga have since grown into the contest and now look rather comfortable. They're even passing the ball around midfield.
RONALDO TAKES AIM! The Real Madrid number seven shoots from the edge of the penalty area, but he skews his effort wide of the far post. Roberto wasn't really troubled, there.
Vazquez is in the Real Madrid starting lineup. It's not often that he starts, but perhaps the thinking from Zidane is that his pace will help liberate both Benzema and Ronaldo?
On the other hand, Malaga haven't scored an away goal all season long. That doesn't suggest that they will pose much of a threat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu this afternoon.
Of course, the midweek thumping of APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League, where they won 6-0, might have put Real Madrid back in their groove. Will that prove to be a turning point?
Some believe Real Madrid are already out of the title race this season. There's a 10 point gap between themselves and pace-setters Barcelona at the top of the Liga standings.
