Antoine Griezmann explains why he rejected Barcelona move

The soap opera surrounding Griezmann's future was one of the most talked about transfers of the summer.

The Frenchman announced his intention to remain in Madrid in a documentary, aptly named The Decision, on French TV before going on to win the World Cup with France in Russia.

Griezmann admitted "It's difficult to say no to teams like Barca" but said he feels at home in Madrid.

"When you're shown love at home, you don't go elsewhere," Griezmann told L'Equipe Magazine.

"They did everything possible to make me feel good, including bringing in important players and building a great team.

One of those players brought to the Wanda Metropolitano was Griezmann's French team-mate Thomas Lemar, who was signed for €70m this summer from Monaco.

Griezmann played a vital role as Atletico ended last season by winning the Europa League and started this season by beating city rivals Real Madrid to win the UEFA Super Cup.

Atletico have endured a rocky start to the league season though, picking up just one win in their opening three matches.
