Atletico Madrid sign Colombia World Cup defender Santiago Arias
Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Colombia right-back Santiago Arias from PSV Eindhoven on a five-year deal.
Arias, 26, helped PSV win the Dutch title last season, his third straight national triumph in the Netherlands. He has made 173 appearances for them while winning 45 caps for Colombia, appearing at the World Cup finals in Russia.
Atletico confirmed the transfer after loaning Sime Vrsaljko to Internazionale, who could make his move to Serie A permanent at the end of the season.
"After two seasons defending our club, in which he has demonstrated his talent and sacrifice, we want to wish him all the luck in his new era with Inter, who have an option to buy the player," Atletico said in a statement.
Vrsaljko has spent two seasons with Atletico, but returns to Serie A following spells with Genoa and Sassuolo. He also impressed in Russia, starting six of Croatia's seven games on their run to the World Cup final, where they lost 4-2 to France.
