La Liga, Santiago Bernabeu – Real Madrid 0 Atletico Madrid 0
Gareth Bale’s injury curse struck again as Real Madrid were held by city rivals Atletico Madrid.
Bale, who has started the season with a bang, was withdrawn at half-time with an apparent muscle injury, leaving the Welshman in doubt for Real’s Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow next week.
Real’s Thibaut Courtois made two exceptional saves in the first half to thwart Atletico strikers Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa, while his opposite number, Jan Oblak, rescued the visitors with two cold-blooded stops after the interval to deny Marco Asensio and Dani Carvajal.
The result means Real missed the chance to leapfrog Barcelona at the top of La Liga after the champions slipped up earlier in the day at home to Athletic Bilbao.
TALKING POINT
What's that Bale injury? He's such a crucial element of this team, but he's also had such awful luck with fitness. Real will be hoping that is just a tweak and nothing more serious.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid). Both goalkeepers deserve a shout, but rather than single one of them out here's the pick of the outfield players - really busy throughout.
PLAYER RATINGS
Real - Courtois 8, Carvajal 8, Sergio Ramos 6, Varane 6, Nacho 6, Kroos 6, Benzema 6, Modric 7, Bale 6, Casemiro 7, Asensio 7. Subs - Navas, Mariano, Lucas 6, Llorente, Reguilon, Ceballos 7, Vinicius 6.

KEY MOMENTS
5' CHANCE! Griezmann has the second clear-cut chance of the game, but his shot is high and wide. Ominous start from Atleti.
18' CHANCE! Griezmann is still looking lively - another chance from the edge of the box, struck left-footed, and saved well by Courtois.
37' CLOSE! Griezmann is at the heart of everything Atleti are doing at the moment - he sets up Diego Costa here, and it's another good save to deny his right-footed effort.
64' CHANCE! Ceballos sets up a chance for Luka Modric, who'd like a goal to round off his stellar week. The shot fizzes wide.
83' SAVE! Oblak has done really well this evening, and pulls off another save, denying Toni Kroos.
KEY STATS
Marco Asensio made his 100th appearance for Real Madrid this evening.
Diego Costa has failed to score in his last 16 league games.
Vinicius Junior is the first player born in the year 2000 to play for Real Madrid.
