The roar at the full time whistle suggests that it's the home side who are happier with that result! What a match that was! Athletic Club had the better of the opening half, but Real Madrid did well to fight back and claim a point. This is not an easy place to come. Great spectacle.

Capa quite clearly pulls back Ramos as the Real Madrid captain surges through the centre of the pitch. The home fans aren't happy, but that was a clear foul from Capa.
Real Madrid are the ones with the ideas at the moment. Athletic Bilbao are being restricted to chances on the counter attack. It feels like they are maybe holding on for a point.
What pace that was from Varane! Susaeta must have thought that he had been played through on goal, but Varane turned on the supercharger and just swept across to make the tackle!
- Yellow cardDani CarvajalReal Madrid
Carvajal enters the book for a late, late foul on Garcia in the centre of the pitch.
Real Madrid are looking to keep things rolling whenever they can. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, are taking their time with freekicks and throw ins and stoppages. Difference in mentality.

- OnMikel RicoAthletic Club
Benat doesn't last the 90 minutes and Rico comes on for the final few minutes.
SAN JOSE MIGHT HAVE DONE BETTER! The pass was played for the midfielder, but just as San Jose cuts inside in preparation to get the shot away, he is crowded out.
You get the feeling that Athletic Bilbao have just about run out of steam. They have played the majority of this match at a very high tempo, but they are starting to look leggy.
That was an awkward one for Simon! The cross from Benzema bounced right in front of the young Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper, but he gathered it and kept hold of it without any fuss.

That was a cynical foul from Benat and he enters the book for bringing down Isco.

A change for the home side now, with San Jose coming on.
- OffGareth BaleReal Madrid
- OnLucas VázquezReal Madrid
Bale comes off and is replaced by Vazquez for the final 15 minutes of the match.
WASTE FROM RAMOS! It's the Real Madrid captain who stands over the freekick right on the edge of the Athletic Club penalty box, but he side foots his effort high and wide.
WAS THAT A PENALTY? Isco is fouled right on the edge of the Athletic Bilbao penalty area, but some of the players are calling for a spot kick. Replays show it was outside the box.
SUSAETA BLOCKED! What a chance that was for the home side. The ball was played back to the edge of the box, where Susaeta was making a late run. But his shot is blocked!
Is there a winner left in this game for either of these two sides? Real Madrid are on top at the moment, but Athletic Bilbao are still carrying a threat on the rapid counter attack.
ASENSIO WAS CLEAN THROUGH! What an opportunity that was for Real Madrid to take the lead! Asensio was through, but Simon comes of his line to make the save. What a star!
The noise inside San Mames cranks up another notch as Berizzo lambasts the referee for not using VAR to decide on what he saw to be a handball by Casemiro. This is great theatre.
Capa has been shown a yellow card. Not sure what for. There's a lot going on at the moment.
It was Isco who got the equaliser, but that goal was all about the assist from Bale. What a cross it was from the Welsh winger, who has started the season in sensational form for Real.
- GoalIscoReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Athletic Club 1 Real Madrid 1 (64 mins - Isco). Real Madrid have the equaliser! What a goal it was! Bale is played down the right channel, he crosses with his wrong foot and finds the head of Isco, who directs his effort past Simon in the Athletic goal! We're level at San Mames!
Things are being cranked up here. Real Madrid are pressing higher on Athletic Club and that is maybe giving them more of a platform in the final third of the pitch.
- Yellow cardDani GarciaAthletic Club
Garcia is the latest player to enter the referee's book. It's hotting up at San Mames.
- OffLuka ModricReal Madrid
- OnIscoReal Madrid
On comes Isco. Will he make the difference for Real Madrid in these final 30 minutes?
WHAT A DOUBLE SAVE! Simon makes the save from Bale's freekick, but he spills it. Ramos pounces on the rebound, but Simon sprints out to close the angle and make the second save.
There was some handbags between Casemiro and Garcia just before the real incident involving Modric. What a noise inside San Mames! This has turned into a real battle.
San Mames is on its feet! The home supporters believe that the Real Madrid are trying to fool the referee. But they have no case. Modric was taken out off the ball! Incredible.
It looks like Lopetegui is about to make another change to his Real Madrid team. Could we be about to see Isco? Could he come on for Bale? The Welshman has struggled tonight.
The introduction of Casemiro completely changes the midfield of Real Madrid. It means that both Kroos and Modric will be pushed further up the pitch to the edge of the box.
- OffIker MuniainAthletic Club
- OnAnder CapaAthletic Club
Muniain is coming off with an injury and Capa comes on for Athletic Club.
Muniain is down on the turf and the Athletic Bilbao players believe that Real Madrid should have played the ball out. The away side were under no obligation to play it out.
Tempers are starting to fray here. Carvajal punches the ball out of Garcia's hands. Garcia knew what he was doing there. He wanted a reaction from the Real Madrid players.
WILLIAMS... OVER! Muniain nicks the ball off a Real Madrid player in the centre of the field, with Benat finding Williams. But the Athletic Bilbao man fires over the bar from distance!

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Athletic Club 1-0 Real Madrid. What a first half at San Mames. The first 45 minutes were played at such a tempo and Athletic have taken the game to Real Madrid.
- Yellow cardYeray AlvarezAthletic Club
The first yellow card of the match is shown to Yeray!
What a race that was! Williams and Varane both have pace to burn. Varane gets to the ball first, but he can only play it straight out of play. Keep an eye on that contest for the rest of the match.
Is it possible that Athletic Bilbao could find a second goal before the half time break? They are well on top at the moment. Real Madrid have yet to find a way into this game.
BIG SAVE FROM SIMON! Modric shifts the ball on to his left foot and takes the shot. It picks up a deflection, but Simon gets down to make the diving save to his right. Fantastic stop!
This is fantastic from Athletic Club. This is Berizzo football at its best. But can they really play at this level for the full 90 minutes? Will Real Madrid's quality shine through in the end?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NO! Athletic Bilbao think they have scored a second goall, with Garcia turning home from a Benat freekick. But the flag was up for offside!
Real Madrid are flustered here. They have been rattled by that goal which came just as they were starting to take a grip of the game. They need to get to half time without conceding another.
What a noise inside San Mames! It's been an incredible spectacle from the very moment the game kicked off, but that goal for the home side has only ramped things up even further.
- GoalIker MuniainAthletic Club
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Athletic Bilbao 1 (32 mins - Inaki Williams) Real Madrid 0. Who scored it? Nobody knows, but what matters is that Athletic Bilbao have the lead over Real Madrid. Williams' flick sent the cross towards the goal, but Muniain might have nicked it from his teammate right at the end!
Simon has looked very confident and sure of himself in these opening 30 minutes. The youngster was recalled from a loan at Elche and is now playing against Real Madrid for Athletic.
For the first time in the match, Athletic Bilbao are sitting deep and allowing Real Madrid to pass the ball around the midfield. They are taking a break before ramping up the pressure again.
ASENSIO DRAWS THE SAVE! That was a powerful strike from Asensio. He cut on to his left foot just inside the penalty area and smashed a shot towards goal, but Simon makes the save.
What is now notable is that Benzema is playing up front on his own for Real Madrid, with Bale being dropped back into the midfield. Is Lopetegui trying to wrestle control away from Athletic?
We are now 26 minutes into this game and the pace hasn't dropped much. Can these two teams keep this up for the full 90 minutes? They must need a breather by now, surely.
SHOT FROM BERCHICHE! Athletic Bilbao come flying forward on the counter attack, with the ball swept out to the left back. He takes the shot, but Courtois makes the save.
Modric wins the ball deep inside the Athletic Bilbao half and tries to find Bale at the back post, but the delivery was just a little too close to Simon, who comes out to gather the cross.
Williams looks lively up front, but the problem is that he isn't exactly known for his finishing instinct. This is where Athletic Bilbao miss the presence of Aduriz up front.
Ramos got away with one there. The Real Madrid captain was caught on the ball, allowing Athletic Bilbao to surge forward. But the final ball was lacking from the home side.
SUSAETA OVER! More space for Athletic Bilbao to push into right on the edge of the Real Madrid penalty box. This time it's Susaeta who flashes a shot high and wide of the target.
ACROSS GOAL! Another half chance for Williams, who has played down the channel. The area he took the shot from was a low percentage area, though. It flashes across the goal.
Athletic Bilbao look confident and sure of themselves whenever they have the ball. This is the kind of football Berizzo favours. We saw this from him during his time at Celta Vigo.
I've gone on about it a bit over these opening 15 minutes, but the pace of this match has been staggering. Both sides must be out of breath by now. Everything is being done at speed!
JUST TOO STRONG! That was a glimpse of an opportunity for Athletic Bilbao. The space was there for Williams to run in behind, but the pass through to the forward was too strong.
Barcelona came from behind to beat Real Sociedad earlier in the day, but Atletico Madrid dropped more points, this time at home to Eibar. Real Madrid are looking to keep up their 100% record.
Modric looks up for this one, which is perhaps unsurprising given the way he had his pants turned down during the week. He was part of the Croatia team thumped by Spain.
This match is being played at such a tempo that it almost feels like a Champions League semi final or something. What an atmosphere at San Mames. What a spectacle this is.
That was a waste from Garcia in the end, but there's applause from the home fans inside San Mames. Athletic Bilbao have started this match well. They're playing at a very high tempo.
Williams pressures Ramos as he runs towards his own goalline, but in the end the Athletic Bilbao forward fouls the Real Madrid captain, much to the frustration of the home fans.
Athletic Bilbao are pressing high on Real Madrid at every opportunity here. The referee is allowing the play to flow, which bodes well for the entertainment factor of this match.
What a tempo these opening five minutes have been played at. Athletic Bilbao are playing with such intensity that Berizzo just told one of his players to chill as they took a throw in.
MODRIC WIDE! That was pretty close to an opening goal from Real Madrid. Modric was played through, but from just inside the box he pokes a deflected wide of the near post.
This will be a real test for Real Madrid. They have started well under new manager Lopetegui. But this is the sort of game that they have yet to face over the early part of the season.
- 1st Half

Here we go! Just seconds until kick off here.
What a din at San Mames as the two sets of players walk out on to the pitch!
Courtois keeps his place in goals for Real Madrid this evening. Navas had been in excellent form over the early weeks of the season, but the Belgian is now the number one pick.
In form! Bale has been exceptional over the early part of the season for Real Madrid. You get the feeling that with Cristiano Ronaldo gone Bale is now the main man for Real.
Barcelona fought back to claim a win over Real Sociedad at the Anoeta earlier today. Now it's Real Madrid's turn to prove that they can come away with a win from the Basque country.
Ceballos starts! Lopetegui has changed the way Real Madrid play and one of the players who has benefited most from that is Ceballos, who is becoming key for club and country.
