It was a strong fight back from Barcelona, but Valencia probably deserved a point. The Catalans more six points clear at the top of La Liga, but Atletico Madrid will have the chance to narrow that gap to just three points with a win tomorrow. Valencia played a very intelligent game here.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Barcelona 2-2 Valencia
- Yellow cardJordi AlbaFC Barcelona
Alba enters the referee's book and that means he will miss Barca's next Liga game.
Just two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Alba was in behind! What a pass that was from Messi over the top, but the touch from the left back wasn't the best and that allowed Garay to make the slide tackle. That was a chance.
Valencia are playing quite a clever game here. They are sitting deep, but they are hitting out on the rapid counter attack whenever they win the ball. This is a risky game by Barca.
Of course, it should be noted that Barcelona have Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi finals next week. Real will be watching this, rubbing their hands at how much is being taken out of Barca.
Barcelona are actually starting to look quite weary. They played in the Copa del Rey quarter finals on Wednesday, while Valencia played on the Tuesday. Could that be a factor?
Valverde is counting on pace here. By throwing on Malcom for Coutinho, Barcelona will look to open up this game in the final few minutes. It's a gamble, but it could certainly work.
- OffPhilippe CoutinhoFC Barcelona
- OnMalcomFC Barcelona
One final change for the home side and Malcom comes on for Coutinho.
Parejo freekick into the wall! Vermaelen gave away a freekick on the edge of the box, but the Valencia playmaker doesn't make the most of the chance and puts his shot into the wall.
- OffRodrigoValencia CF
- OnSanti MinaValencia CF
It's a like for like change from Marcelino and Mina comes on for Rodrigo.
Rodrigo shot on goal! The Valencia forward created the opportunity for himself, jinking on the edge of the box to make space, but the effort on goal is straight at Ter Stegen.
Given the way the match has gone since the equaliser, Valencia will feel that they can still win this. Barcelona have lost their way and it's the away side who are controlling the ball.
Coutinho shot deflected away! That effort from the Barcelona number seven might have been heading for the far corner of the net, but Gabriel gets his head on it to deflect away.
The atmosphere inside Camp Nou since the equaliser has been strange. You might imagine that it would loud, urging their team forward for a winner. But it's pretty subdued.
Messi looks to be moving gingerly since jogging back on. The Argentine hasn't always made the best decisions about his own fitness. One just hopes he isn't doing himself damage.
Messi is back on! The home supporters roar as Messi strolls back on to the pitch. That was a concerning moment, but the Barca number 10 has decided that he can continue.
- OffFrancis CoquelinValencia CF
- OnGeoffrey KondogbiaValencia CF
Coquelin comes off and he is replaced by Kondogbia for the final 20 minutes.
Camp Nou has fallen silent as they hold their breath over Messi. This doesn't took too good for the Argentine. Valverde might be forced into a change, even if it's to protect Messi.
Messi injury! Uh oh. This could be a big moment not just in this match, but in Barcelona's season. Messi is down and getting some treatment to his thigh. This is a concern.
All of a sudden, Valencia are seeing more of the ball as Barcelona stand off them following the equaliser. It's funny how goals can completely change the dynamic of matches.
- OffCarles AleñaFC Barcelona
- OnArthurFC Barcelona
Valverde makes a second change and Arthur comes on for Alena, who was decent.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (65 mins - Lionel Messi) Valencia 2. What a goal! It's Messi! And it's an equaliser for Barcelona! Messi used Garay as a block, he moved the ball on to his left foot and then curled a finish into the back of the net. There was nothing Neto could do about that! He was unsighted.
Another chance for three! Rodrigo just couldn't stretch far enough to guide his shot into the back of he net. The pass across goal was brilliant, but Rodrigo puts it over the bar.
Now the home supporters inside Camp Nou are complaining that Neto is time-wasting with his goal kicks, but the referee allows him to continue. There's still half an hour to go!
Gabriel heads over! That was a half chance for the Valencia defender up from the back, but the delivery from Parejo was slightly too high and he heads over the crossbar. Opportunity.
That could have been three! Ter Stegen comes off his line to narrow the angle and make the save from Rodrigo, after the Valencia man had been released through. What a big chance!
Surely the Barcelona equaliser is coming soon? They have been well on top in this second half, they have struck the woodwork, but Valencia have had good fortune on their side.
Off the post! Barcelona are banging at the door here. This time it's a cross from Roberto that comes off the woodwork and Valencia live to fight another day. They are so deep, though.
Another Neto save! This time it's Alena who takes aim from distance, but the Valencia goalkeeper gets down to make the save. He spills it, but Suarez was offside as he chased the rebound.
Alba shot... out for a throw in! There's that understanding again. Alba and Messi link up inside the Valencia box, but the former's effort flies well wide and actually goes out for a throw in.
Barcelona battering at the door! A clearance is made by a Valencia defender very nearly underneath his own bar and then Wass makes the block to stop Suarez from finding the net.
Barcelona have started this second half on the front foot. The introduction of Alba should give them better balance. It could be a game changer. Semedo just looked a bit uncomfortable.
Neto has been excellent for Valencia this evening. How many times have we seen Messi bend a shot into the back of the net from that sort of distance? Neto has been equal to him.
Great strike, big save! Messi shifts the ball on to his left foot 20 yards out, he lashes an effort towards goal, but Neto gets down to tip the ball around the post. Massive save. Impressive.
- OffNélson SemedoFC Barcelona
- OnJordi AlbaFC Barcelona
Valverde has made a change for the start of the second half and Alba comes on for Semedo at left back.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Barcelona 1-2 Valencia. What a hugely entertaining half at Camp Nou. One of the games of the season in La Liga so far. More of the same after the interval, please.
Thumped off the post! Inches away from a Barcelona equaliser. Coutinho played a short corner to Roberto, who surged into the box. But his low strike comes back off the base of the post.
What an entertaining first half this has been at Camp Nou. Barcelona and Valencia are both looking to attack at the earliest opportunity. Even the away side are pressing for a third.
- OffKevin GameiroValencia CF
- OnFerrán TorresValencia CF
There's the change we expected and Gameiro comes off to be replaced by Torres.
- Goal by penaltyLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (39 mins - Lionel Messi pen) Valencia 2. Game on at Camp Nou! Messi steps up to the 12 yard mark, where he hasn't always been at his best over the course of his career, but he converts the penalty and Barcelona have a foothold for a comeback in this match. Exciting stuff.
Everyone is unhappy here. Barcelona are upset that Messi's goal after the whistle was blown wasn't awarded and Valencia are unhappy over what they see as a soft penalty kick.
PENALTY KICK TO BARCELONA! It was a tackle from Lato on Semedo, but there's controversy as Messi swept home a finish into the back of the net just as the whistle was blown.
Gameiro will have to come off! The French striker has a huge lump on his head after that clash with Pique and he is no signalling to the Valencia bench that he cannot continue.
ICYMI the first Valencia goal...
The head injury to Pique directly contributed to that second Valencia goal. Had he been on the pitch, that cross surely would have been cleared. As it was, Roberto was left exposed.
- Goal by penaltyDaniel ParejoValencia CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 0 Valencia 2 (33 mins - Dani Parejo pen). Well, well, well. We have a real game on our hands at Camp Nou! What a start to the match by Valencia. Parejo steps up to the 12-yard mark and smashes a strike into the left-hand corner of the net. Ter Stegen didn't stand a chance.
- Yellow cardSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
Roberto is shown a yellow card for a big ol' shove on Wass as he went for the cross into the box.
PENALTY KICK TO BARCELONA! Wass goes down after being pushed by Roberto and the referee points to the spot.
Clash of heads! That looked like a sore one. Pique and Gameiro have clashed heads and it looks like there is a lot of blood coming from the head of the former. Yikes. It's pouring from him.
Suarez crowded out! The Barcelona striker was up against three Valencia defenders, he did his best to bundle past them, but in the end Suarez is crowded off the ball and the chance is gone.
Barcelona have seen more of the ball, they have created chances to score, but Valencia look so dangerous whenever they come forward on the attack. They have great quality.
What a save! Coutinho was played to the byline, his cross was deflected towards the goal by Gabriel, but Neto moved his feet to change direction and tip the ball over the bar.
From the opening few minutes...
What a counter attacking goal that was from Valencia. It looked like Rodrigo may have missed his chance to spray the pass out to the left, but he waited and slotted through Gameiro.
- GoalKevin GameiroValencia CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 0 Valencia 1 (25 mins - Kevin Gameiro). The breakthrough has been made and it's Gameiro who has scored the opener! Rodrigo drove forward at the Barcelona defence, they stood off him and stood off him. Rodrigo then threaded through Gameiro and the Frenchman finished into the back of the net with the first-time effort.
Vidal has become a key figure for Barcelona in the past few weeks and months. The Chilean struggled early on in the season, but he has impressed in recent matches.
Barcelona are controlling possession, but for the time being Valencia seem quite hapy just to let them pass it around. They close in on them when they get to the edge of the box.
Parejo has arguably been the best player on the pitch in these opening 20 minutes. He has been in excellent form since the turn of the year and he is pushing Valencia forward.
Valencia started this match, but they have fallen out of the contest in the last 10 minutes or so. It's all Barcelona at the moment as they look for the breakthrough in this first half.
Coutinho has struggled for form at times this season, but the former Liverpool man was impressive against Sevilla during the week and looks to have started this match well too.
Coutinho gets the strike away! The Brazilian playmaker makes the most of a slip from Wass, cuts inside and lashes an effort towards goal. Neto makes the save to deny him, though.
Tipped over! Now it's Roberto who gets a cross into the Valencia penalty box from the left side, but Neto saw it all the way and pushed it over for a corner kick which came to nothing.
A dink to the far post! Suarez plays a clipped cross to the back post, but the clearance is made by the Valencia defender. That was a chance for Barca, but nobody was gambling.
Curler from Messi! The Barcelona number 10 beats one and then two as he cuts inside off the right side, but his curling effort flashes wide of the far post. That was a half opportunity.
That really should have been a penalty kick to Barcelona. Gabriel basically saved the Semedo shot with his arm raised, and yet the officials still didn't give it even with the use of VAR.
Was that a handball? Gabriel has gone down holding his face implying that Semedo's shot hit him there, but the replays show that it struck his hand. No penalty? Can't VAR be used?
Valencia on the break! The away side surge forward at pace, with Wass finding space down the right side. However, this time his cut back to Parejo is wayward and the shot is well over.
Barcelona come into this game on the back of a thumping 6-1 home win over Sevilla in the Copa del Rey during the week. It seems that this match might be more of a challenge.
Messi on target! Alena won a freekick 20 yards out. It was in the perfect territory for Messi, but the Barcelona number 10 sees his effort saved comfortably by Neto for Valencia.
This has been a shaky start from Barcelona. They are now on the edge of the Valencia box, but the away side have already shown that they can cause the Catalans problems.
Looking at the replays, Parejo really should have beaten Ter Stegen with his shot from about 10 yards out. The cut back from Wass for the Valencia playmaker was excellent.
Well, if anyone thought that this would be an easy game for Barcelona.... What a start from Valencia! They have made this an end-to-end affair early on and they could have been ahead.
Big save! And then off the post! Wow! What a start from Valencia. Parejo was through, Ter Stegen denied him. Cheryshev ran on to the rebound, but his drive smashes off the base of the far post!
Good start from Valencia! The away side have started on the front foot. Parejo takes the shot first-time 20 yards out, but it's too close to Ter Stegen who makes the straightforward save.
This is a peculiar lineup from Barcelona. In defence, Semedo is being asked to play on the left side, with Roberto on the right. Or is it the other way around? Nobody's really sure.
