This was far from a vintage Barcelona performance, but it was vintage Messi. Where would the Catalans be without their number 10? His hat-trick, and a goal from Busquets off the bench, has returned Barca to the top of La Liga heading into the international break. Celta Vigo played wel!

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Barcelona 4-1 Celta Vigo
There will be just two minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
- Yellow cardSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
Busquets picks up a booking to go with his goal.
That's Busquets first La Liga goal since October 2017. However, that was a very good finish from the midfielder. He took it brilliantly to clinch the three points for the Catalans.
- GoalSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 4 (85 mins - Sergio Busquets) Celta Vigo 1. That's the points in the bag! Dembele's cross into the middle is half-cleared, Busquets then controls on the edge of the box and guides a very nice finish into the back of the net! The midfielder gave Blanco the eye with his shot!
A Celta Vigo goal at this stage of the match would shake things up. Barcelona can't afford to get complacent. They still need to get the job done. They haven't played all that well.
Fernandez was offside! The flag stayed down right up until the moment that ter Stegen made the stop from Fernandez, but it was clear that the Celta Vigo sub was offside. Miles off.
This scoreline flatters Barcelona. They have found the back of the net three times, but all three goals have come from dead ball situations. They have yet to score through open play.
- OffPape CheikhRC Celta
- OnGabriel FernándezRC Celta
The third and final change from Celta Vigo sees Fernandez come on for the final 10 minutes.
Messi played a pass over the top for Dembele to chase, but Aidoo did well to show his own turn of pace and get across to make the challenge. There is space opening up.
It feels like the edge has disappeared from this match. Celta Vigo will wonder where they went wrong as they have played well, but Messi has dismantled them somewhat.
The TV cameras show Griezmann sitting on the bench after being taken off and he looks a little forlorn. The Frenchman hasn't quite hit the ground running as a Barcelona player.
- OffStanislav LobotkaRC Celta
- OnDenis SuárezRC Celta
Denis comes on to play against his former club. He'll want to make an impression.
- OffAntoine GriezmannFC Barcelona
- OnLuis SuárezFC Barcelona
There's the last Barcelona change and Griezmann comes off for Suarez.
Cross from Dembele... so close! The French winger fizzed a cross into the six yard box, Messi threw himself at it in an attempt to get on the end of it, but he couldn't quite stretch far enough.
Was that a penalty? Griezmann and Messi exchange passes inside the Celta Vigo penalty area. Messi is crowded out and tumbles to the floor, but there was no real case for a spot kick.
Valverde still has one change off the bench still to make. Will he take the opportunity to give Messi a rest? Could he take off the Argentine and replace him with Suarez in the final 20 minutes?
This will be a fourth straight defeat for Celta Vigo. They have only won two games all season. Garcia has a big job on his hands, but this has been an encouraging performance.
While Celta Vigo played the first half, and even the first 15 minutes of the second half, with intensity, they are now sitting deep and allowing Barcelona to spray the passes around.
This match has fallen into something of a lull. Celta Vigo look to have lost the belief that they can mount a comeback. They haven't played poorly, but they don't have a Messi.
Some context required for the 'crisis' Barcelona are apparently in the midst of - this result, should it hold, will see them return to the top of La Liga heading into the international break.
- OffPione SistoRC Celta
- OnBrais MéndezRC Celta
Sisto comes off for Celta Vigo. He'll be disappointed not to have scored given the two chances he had.
Messi's reaction to Griezmann missing that last chance was interesting - he threw his head back in disappointment. Did he hope to get the one-two pass from his new teammate?
Big chance for Griezmann! That should have been a fourth goal for Barcelona! Messi fed the ball out to Griezmann, but Blanco comes off his line to make the save from the French striker!
PICTURE: On the balance of play, it's been an even match.
It looks like Suarez might be warming up for Barcelona. Will he be given some game time before the international break? He's going through his paces down on the touchline.
Sisto was in behind! Celta Vigo found the run of Sisto down the channel, the angle was tight, but he gets the shot away. Ter Stegen holds on to the ball rather impressively. That was a chance.
You get the feeling that Barcelona have found their groove since scoring that third goal. The introduction of Dembele at the break has given them another outlet to use on the attack.
Celta Vigo are showing signs that they're not going to give this up. They are opening things up and are committing more bodies forward on the attack. That comes with risks, though.
- Yellow cardSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
Roberto sees yellow for a foul. He can have no real complaints about that one.
Celta Vigo have played well here and yet they find themselves two goals down because of the brilliance of Messi. It must be so frustrating to play against him. What can you do to stop him?
PICTURE: The GOAT.
A penalty and two freekicks for Messi and he is dragging Barcelona to an important three points here. What an outrageously talented player he is. We will never see his likes again.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 3 (49 mins - Lionel Messi) Celta Vigo 1. My goodness! You just knew that was going to end up in the back of the net! Barcelona won a freekick on the edge of the box and Messi clipped his shot over the wall and into the back of the net. These are like penalty kicks for him! Incredible!
Dembele over the bar! That would have been the ideal way to introduce himself to the match. Dembele shifted the ball on to his left foot, but then angled his effort over the target.
- OffAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
- OnOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
Valverde made a second change at the break with Dembele coming on for Ansu.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Barcelona have a 2-1 lead over Celta Vigo in this La Liga fixture.
What did you make of the first half? Do Celta Vigo still stand a chance of coming away from Camp Nou with a result? Is Messi digging his team out of a hole? Tweet me your thoughts!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Barcelona 2-1 Celta Vigo. Messi is doing his best to drag Barcelona to three points with two goals in the opening 45 minutes. That has been a common theme this season.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (46 mins - Lionel Messi) Celta Vigo 1. Anything you can do, Messi can do better! You just knew that was going to happen. Messi curls a trademark freekick into the back of the net from 20 yards out and gives Barcelona the lead just moments after the away side had restored parity!
- Yellow cardFran BeltranRC Celta
It's a yellow card for Araujo who tugged back on the shirt of Messi.
There is a flatness around the Camp Nou and there has been a flatness in the first half performance of Barcelona. Valverde has some work to do at the break. His team nees lifting.
What a ping that was from Olaza! And it's probably what Celta Vigo deserve from their performance in this first half, although that was actually their first shot on target this evening.
- GoalLucas OlazaRC Celta
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 Celta Vigo 1 (42 mins - Lucas Olaza). Celta Vigo are back on level terms! What a brilliant goal! Olaza took the freekick given away by Messi on the edge of the box and his effort was almost Messi-esque as he finds the back of the net! Celta Vigo have equalised just minutes before the break!
- Yellow cardLionel MessiFC Barcelona
Messi feels he won the ball, but the referee disagrees and shows him a yellow card.
Umtiti seems to have hurt Aspas after a challenge between the two players. The Celta Vigo talisman is doubled over. It doesn't look too serious, but he's not moving too freely at the moment.
Messi played the little pass into Ansu, who tried to turn and get the shot away. That was a nice idea from the teenager, but he was crowded out in the end. Was Messi looking for the return ball?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NO! Arthur dribbles to the byline, cuts the ball back, it squirms though Blanco's legs and Messi finishes from close range. But the ball was out before Arthur played it!
The flag was raised as the pass was played over the top for Junca, but replays show that the call wasn't as clear as the linesman on the far side might have thought. That was tight.
Well, you don't see that very often. Messi just failed to control a fairly easy pass. The bashful Barcelona number 10 puts up a hand in apology to his teammates. I think they'll let him off.
Celta Vigo have lost their way somewhat since Barcelona scored the opener from the spot. It's not that they are being overrun, it's just that they have lost the edge they had early on.
The introduction of Busquets seems to have given Barcelona a bit more control in the centre of the pitch. Until then Celta Vigo had been all over them in midfield. Barca back in charge.
Of course, Real Madrid claimed victory over Eibar earlier in the day to go top of La Liga. The pressure is on Barcelona to respond with a win of their own to regain that top spot.
That should have been a corner kick. Griezmann took a shot on goal, it clearly took a deflection off a Celta Vigo player and yet the officials have somehow given a goal kick. Strange.
There didn't look to be an injury to Semedo. So was that a tactical change from Valverde just before the penalty kick? Roberto is back to right back while Busquets is into the midfield.
Aspas... wide! Celta Vigo were presented with a good chance to at least test ter Stegen, but Aspas' freekick from 20 yards out was tame and bounced comfortably wide of the target.
- Yellow cardSamuel UmtitiFC Barcelona
Umtiti is shown a yellow card for giving away a foul on the edge of his own penalty box.
- OffNélson SemedoFC Barcelona
- OnSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
Valverde made a change before the penalty kick was taken with Busquets coming on for Semedo. Interesting.
- Goal by penaltyLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (23 mins - Lionel Messi pen) Celta Vigo 0. Barcelona don't deserve the lead, but they have taken it nonetheless. The handball from Aidoo gave Messi the chance to score from the spot and the number 10 rolls the ball into the back of the net. Celta Vigo will feel hard done by. They have played well.
PENALTY KICK TO BARCELONA! The referee shows no hesitation in pointing to the spot after a handball from Aidoo.
It must be said, this has been a very poor start from Barcelona. Celta Vigo have been the better of the two teams in the opening 20 minutes. This has been quite impressive from them.
Barcelona's strategy seems to be chipping balls into the channels for Griezmann and Ansu to chase, or give the ball to Messi in a deep position so he can drive it forward. Hmmm...
PICTURE: Can Messi provide the spark for Barcelona?
It feels like everyone inside the Camp Nou, and even the Barcelona players themselves, are enjoying watching this system from Celta Vigo. It's rare you see a team play at Camp Nou in this way!
That was risky! Ter Stegen very nearly plays himself into trouble with a pass into Roberto when his teamate was under intense pressure from Diop, but there was a foul from the latter.
Messi shoots... saved! That's the first time that the Barcelona number 10 has sprung into life, with Messi getting the shot away from the edge of the box. But Blanco made the diving save.
Messi plays a long ball right down the middle for the run of Ansu, but Blanco comes to the edge of his box to gather. That gives you an idea of how Barcelona are struggling for ideas early on here.
Griezmann looks to be positioned on the right side of the Barcelona front three. The Frenchman has endured mixed fortunes since signing in the summer. He has looked a spare part at times.
This is an interesting set up from Celta Vigo. At times, they are pressing Barcelona with three attackers when they have the ball. The Catalans are struggling to pass their way through the visitors.
PICTURE: The pressure is on Valverde.
Garcia will want his team to make a real statement in his first match in charge. Celta Vigo have indeed started well. In fact, they have been the better of the two teams early on.
Sisto looks to be playing more through the centre than was anticipated. It was predicted that he would be on the right side of a 4-5-1, but he's playing up top with Aspas in a 4-4-2.
Aspas is played in behind the Barcelona defence. Of course, he is one player Celta Vigo have that can cause the Catalans damage. He remains a match winner and often does well against Barca.
It's an interesting midfield selection from Valverde for this one. Busquets has dropped out of the lineup and Roberto has been given that place in the middle, not at right back.
Firpo has been given another opportunity to show what he can do. The summer signing has endured a tough start to life at Barcelona. He made a mistake just seconds into his first start.
It's been a difficult week for Barcelona. First, they lost to Levante in La Liga last weekend. Then, they failed to break down Slavia Prague at home in the Champions League.
The cameras were crowded around the home dugout as Barcelona came out on to the pitch ahead of this match. There is real pressure on Valverde. He needs three points tonight.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Barcelona against Celta Vigo in this La Liga fixture.l
Okay, here we go. We're about to get started at the Camp Nou. Kick off is just moments away.
This feels like a pivotal match in Barcelona's season. They simply can't afford to drop points here.
Not long until kick off at Camp Nou where Garcia will make his debut as Celta Vigo manager.
Under pressure! Poor results against Levante and Slavia Prague have put Valverde on the hot seat. He needs a victory this evening to stem the criticism. Otherwise, Valverde could be in real danger of losing his job.
