Barcelona go top of La Liga and we know what tends to happen when they start to set the pace at the peak of the Spanish top flight. They weren't even at their absolute best this evening, but still had no trouble in sweeping aside Real Valladolid, who actually competed well for the most part.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Barcelona 5-1 Real Valladolid
This has been a demonstration of all that makes Messi the greatest of all time. The Argentine has scored twice and assisted twice, but he has does that so often that it's almost mundane.
There will be just two minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
This is a statement win for Barcelona. This result will take them to the top of La Liga (at least until Granada play tomorrow night) and will make a point to their rivals (Atleti and Real).
Real Valladolid responded really well after conceding so early in this match, but Barcelona's quality has shone through over the full 90 minutes. They have coasted through this.
Suarez is clean through... saved! The Barcelona striker created the opportunity for himself, putting the ball around Laguardia, but his prodded effort was saved low down by Masip.
One pass too many! That should have been a sixth goal for Barcelona, but Vidal plays one pass too many to Pique when he really should have struck the effort himself! Too elaborate.
PICTURE: A match made in football heaven.
You'd have to say that this scoreline is somewhat harsh on Real Valladolid now. They have competed well, they went toe-to-toe with Barca in the first half. They just haven't had the final ball.
It looks like Alba might have picked up a knock just as Barcelona have made their third and final change of the night. The left back is talking to Valverde over on the touchline.
- Yellow cardMíchelReal Valladolid
Michel is shown a yellow card. This has been a frustrating night for the away side.
- OffJordi AlbaFC Barcelona
- OnSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
One last change now that the game is won. Roberto comes on for the final 10 minutes.
- GoalLuis SuárezFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 5 (77 mins - Luis Suarez) Real Valladolid 1. He has been quiet this evening, but Suarez has got himself a goal! Messi played the pass through and Suarez made no mistake in firing home at the near post! Barcelona are making this a rout. Two goals and two assists for Messi.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 4 (75 mins - Lionel Messi) Real Valladolid 1. It's Messi again and that should be the points in the bag for Barcelona! Rakitic played a very clever pass around the corner for the Argentine, he turned and lashed a powerful finish into the back of the net. He has made this match his own.
Barcelona are edging closer and closer to a win that will take them to the top of La Liga for at least 24 hours. There is feeling that the defending champions are building momentum.
PICTURE: Messi made this match his own in the first half.
Suarez is all of a sudden finding some space down the right side. The Uruguayan has been quiet this evening. Not his best performance for Barcelona to say the least. Underwhelming.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NO! Suarez thought that he had scored Barcelona's fourth goal of the night, but he was offside when the pass across goal was made by Alba. Correct decision.
Barcelona are comfortable and in control of the match, but they should prepare themselves for some sort of fight back from Real Valadolid in the final 20 minutes.
- Yellow cardSergi GuardiolaReal Valladolid
That's a lunge from Guardiola on Pique and he can have no complaints about that booking.
- OffOscar PlanoReal Valladolid
- OnEnes ÜnalReal Valladolid
Plano has been impressive this season, but tonight wasn't his best performance.
There is a feeling that Barcelona have taken their foot off the pedal in this second half. They are coasting their way through the closing stages of this match. They need to be careful.
Ansu wasn't at his best this evening, but that is probably a mark of how high expectations are of the 16-year-old. The teenager didn't play poorly, just not that well.
- OffAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
- OnAntoine GriezmannFC Barcelona
Off comes Ansu and on comes Griezmann. Not a bad player to bring off the bench.
Rakitic gets a big ovation from the home fans inside the Camp Nou. The Croatian is a polarising figure, with many Barcelona supporters in favour of him leaving in the January window.
PICTURE: The highlight of the match. So far.
- OffFrenkie de JongFC Barcelona
- OnIvan RakiticFC Barcelona
Valverde makes a chage and on comes Rakitic for the final 30 minutes.
Lenglet header wide! The French centre back must have thought that he'd scored a second goal! He got on the end of the corner kick delivery from Ansu, but glanced it wide of the far post.
- OffAnuarReal Valladolid
- OnPablo HervíasReal Valladolid
Real Valladolid made a change a few moments ago with Hervias coming on for Anuar.
Big chance for Ansu! Messi galloped through the centre of the pitch and played the pass out to Ansu, but the 16-year-old is denied by Masip. The teenager really should have found the back of the net.
There's just under 60,000 inside the Camp Nou for this match this evening. That's not bad at all for a Tuesday night. The vast majority of them will be happy with what they have seen.
If this scoreline holds it will be enough to take Barcelona to the top of La Liga, at least until Granada play tomorrow night. Atletico Madrid were pegged back by Alaves earlier this evening, drawing 1-1.
That's a rarity. Ter Stegen was passed the ball, but then kicked it straight out of play when he should have had no trouble finding a teammate. The German hasn't been at his best tonight.
Real Valladolid gave Barcelona some problems in the first half. They need to gather themselves and try and re-capture what they had in the opening 20 minutes or so.
Ansu started the match brightly, but has since faded a little bit. It's not that the 16-year-old is playing badly, far from it, it's just that he is being outshone by Messi. That's allowed.
PICTURE: There is nobody better.
Real Valladolid played the first half with a back five, but they have now shifted to a more orthodox back four. That should give them more of a presence in the centre of the pitch.
Messi changed the game in the space of just five first half minutes. Until then, Real Valladolid had held their own against Barcelona. There's little you can do to stop the great man.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Barcelona have a 3-1 lead over Real Valladolid in this La Liga fixture.
What did you make of the first half from the Camp Nou? Is there any way back for Real Valladolid from this 3-1 deficit? How good was Messi in that first half? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Barcelona 3-1 Real Valladolid. The away side have played their part in the contest, but a five minute spell from Messi has given Barcelona the advantage at the halfway mark.
Messi freekick saved! Real Valladolid give away a freekick right on the edge of their own penalty area, but Masip makes the save this time. That's the final act of the opening 45 minutes.
De Jong has been quietly impressive for Barcelona in this first half. The Dutch midfielder has settled nicely into his new surroundings and has become a key figure for the Catalans.
Real Valladolid were holding their own up until that second Barcelona goal, but since then the gulf in quality between the away side and the defending La Liga champions has shown.
PICTURE: All about this guy.
Across the face of goal! Semedo burst into the Real Valladolid penalty area and fizzed a pass into the middle, but there were no takers! Ansu and Suarez had both fallen back!
Of course, Messi missed the first few weeks of the new season with an injury so it has taken him a while to get up to speed, but there's a sense that he has found his groove again.
The thing about that kind of Messi freekick is that there is no element of surprise, everyone knows what is coming, and yet there was no way for Masip to stop it. Incredible.
Messi has turned this game around for Barcelona in the space of just five minutes. First came his stunning assist for Vidal. Then he found the back of the net himself with a lovely freekick.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 3 (34 mins - Lionel Messi) Real Valladolid 1. It's a Messi masterpiece! How many times have we seen that from the great man? Messi lined up the freekick from 25 yards out and you just knew what was coming. He finds the top corner of Masip's net with a curling, left-footed effort!
- OffNachoReal Valladolid
- OnMohammed SalisuReal Valladolid
Indeed, there's the change for the away side and Nacho comes off holding the back of his leg.
It looks like Real Valladolid might be about to make a change here. Have they picked up an injury? They have a player stripped and ready to come on down on the touchline.
PICTURE: Real Valladolid equalised, but now find themselves again.
There were some questions asked when Vidal signed for Barcelona last year, but he has been given more attacking license this season and has become a key player for the Catalans.
- GoalArturo VidalFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (29 mins - Arturo Vidal) Real Valladolid 1. It's Vidal who gets his name on the score sheet, but that goal was all about Messi's assist. The clipped pass over the top from the Argentine was magnificent and Vidal stuck out a toe to finish into the back of the Real Valladolid net! Barca lead again.
Just beyond Vidal! That was very nearly the opening for the second Barcelona goal. De Jong teased a cross to the back post where Vidal had drifted away from his marker, but it was just too high.
Gonzalez has to be pleased with how his team has played in these opening 25 minutes. Real Valladolid have really taken the game to Barcelona after going behind so early on.
Real Valladolid are showing real counter attacking intent and that is causing Barcelona some real problems. They are also doing a good job of leaving Semedo isolated on his own.
PICTURE: Lenglet gave Barcelona an early lead.
Suarez has been quiet in the opening 20 minutes of this match and it's not like Barcelona haven't had the ball in the final third of the pitch. Barca aren't using him that often.
It's rare that you see Ter Stegen make such a mistake leading to a goal. The German might well be the best goalkeeper in the world right now, but he should have done better with that equaliser.
Real Valladolid believe Ansu dived to try and win a penalty kick while Barcelona are making the argument to the referee that they should have a spot kick. Nothing is given.
You have to give credit to Real Valladolid. They have responded well to losing such an early goal and they have caused Barcelona problems. You could even claim that they deserve to be level.
- GoalKikoReal Valladolid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 Real Valladolid 1 (15 mins - Kiko Olivas). It's a surprise equaliser for the away side! Ter Stegen didn't deal well with the freekick delivery into the penalty box, allowing the ball to bounce off him and Kiko was on hand to bundle home from close range. Valladolid are level!
On target! Messi lines up the freekick from distance, but Masip watched the strike all the way and makes the comfortable save. We have certainly seen better attempts from Messi.
It will be interesting to see how Busquets and de Jong play together in the same midfield. Of course, the latter player is seen as the long term successor for the former.
PICTURE: Let's go to Valverde for his reaction to Barca's start...
Barcelona have regained control of the match after a good spell from the away side following the opening goal. Indeed, the Catalans are patiently building up through the middle.
The scene before kick off...
Ansu is already seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages of this match. His Barcelona teammates trust him just as much as the likes of Messi and Suarez. They always look for him.
In fairness to Real Valladolid, they have responded well to going behind. They already look to have opened up their game and Barcelona look a bit surprised by their approach.
Guardiola shoots wide! The Real Valladolid striker almost made amends for his poor clearance that led to the Barca goal, but his strike from outside the box bounces just wide.
Well, if Real Valladolid's game plan was to sit deep and frustrate Barcelona for as long as possible then that plan is already in tatters. The Catalans made them pay for the poor clearance.
- GoalClément LengletFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (3 mins - Clement Lenglet) Real Valladolid 0. It's an opener for Barcelona after just 120 seconds! Messi's cross into the middle wasn't cleared properly, the ball was ended up at the feet of Lenglet about 12 yards out and the French defender lashed a finish in off the underside of the crossbar!
It's all eyes on Ansu this evening. The 16-year-old burst on to the scene earlier in the season, but was then rested for a period. He's back in the team for this match. He's SIXTEEN!
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Barcelona against Real Valladolid in this La Liga fixture.
Okay, here we go. We're about to get under way at the Camp Nou. Kick off is just moments away.
A win for Barcelona this evening would send them to the top of La Liga after Atleti's draw away to Alaves earlier tonight.
Not long until kick off at the Camp Nou. There's no doubting what the big headline is tonight - Ansu starts!
