That was an impressive showing from Barcelona as the Koeman era gets off and running with an emphatic victory. Ansu was the main man for the Catalans, but Messi, Alba and De Jong can also be pleased with their performances. It must also be said that Villarreal were dreadful, though. They just didn't show up.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Barcelona 4-0 Villarreal
This contest was settled a long time ago. Barcelona have coasted through the second half, but Koeman will surely be very pleased with the first half performance of his new team.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
Pjanic shoots over! The Bosnian is allowed to take a freekick on the edge of the box by Messi, but Pjanic shoots over the target when he probably should have tested Asenjo.
Messi shot is saved! Trincao's initial effort is saved by Asensjo, the ball falls to Messi who scoops another shot towards goal, but the Villarreal goalkeeper pushes it over his crossbar.
What a pass! Kubo certainly wants to leave an impression on the club he used to be on the books of, picking a wonderful pass to Trigueros inside the area, but his shot is blocked!
- OffGerardVillarreal CF
- OnCarlos BaccaVillarreal CF
... and Bacca is also thrown on by Emery. Can he grab Villarreal a late consolation goal?
- OffRaúl AlbiolVillarreal CF
- OnRamiro Funes MoriVillarreal CF
Funes Mori comes on for the final few minutes at the Camp Nou...
- Yellow cardGerardVillarreal CF
A yellow card for Moreno as both teams wind down this match to the full time whistle.
Kubo has made a bit of a difference for Villarreal since coming off the bench. The on loan Real Madrid player is keen to make an impression at the Camp Nou and is full of energy.
Barcelona have been by far and away the better team this evening. A number of players have impressed, but Griezmann will be disappointed he wasn't able to make more of an impact.
Kubo got the byline! Villarreal threaten the Barcelona goal for the first time in this second half, with Kubo crossing a ball to the near post, but nobody gambled and Neto saved with his feet.
- OffSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
- OnMiralem PjanicFC Barcelona
Pjanic replaces Busquets for the final 10 minutes. Could the Bosnian become a first team figure for Barca ahead of the veteran?
- OffAntoine GriezmannFC Barcelona
- OnFrancisco TrincãoFC Barcelona
Another change by Koeman, with Trincao coming on for his Barcelona debut.
This has been a desperately disappointing performance from Villarreal. They have improved in the second half, but the bar was so low after conceding four goals in the first half.
- OffSamuel ChukwuezeVillarreal CF
- OnTakefusa KuboVillarreal CF
Here comes Kubo, the on loan Real Madrid attacker who impressed at Real Mallorca last season.
De Jong is dispossed! Parejo wins the ball from the Dutchman on the edge of the Barcelona box, but Pique makes the block to stop Villarreal from getting one back on the board.
- OffAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
- OnOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
And a second change from Koeman sees Dembele come on for Ansu. What a performance from the teenager.
- OffPhilippe CoutinhoFC Barcelona
- OnPedriFC Barcelona
Here comes the first change of the night from Barcelona... Pedri comes on for Coutinho! Interesting.
Pau is down on the ground after an aerial challenge by Busquets. The Villarreal players believe the Barcelona midfielder used an arm in the challenge, but there wasn't much in that.
It looks like Koeman might be about to make a couple changes to his Barcelona side. Dembele is one of the players getting ready to come on. And there's another too, but he has his back to the camera.
Messi shot is saved! That was a trademark effort on goal from the Barcelona number 10, curling a left-footed strike towards the far corner, but Asenjo pushes up a hand to make the stop!
Neto comes out! Moreno plays a neat pass in behind for Gomez, but the Barcelona goalkeeper comes quickly off his line to collect the ball at the feet of the Villarreal forward.
PICTURE: Ansu has been excellent tonight
Moreno was played in behind the Barcelona defence down the right side, but his curling shot is saved comfortably by Neto. That was a half chance for the Villarreal attacker.
For a team with so much attacking quality on the pitch, Villarreal have offered so little going forward. Have we even mentioned Parejo during this match? Completely anonymous.
There have been more spectacular players on the pitch for Barcelona this evening, but de Jong can be pleased with how he has played. The Dutchman looks more at ease in this role.
Villarreal have given up on this match. They had started the season relatively well before coming to the Camp Nou, but they have been given a lesson by Koeman's Barcelona.
There's definitely a sense that Barcelona have taken their foot off the gas a little bit in this second half, but they did so much damage in the first half that they are content like this.
Griezmann with the chance! A nive Barcelona move sees Alba find the French forward inside the area, his touch was a good one, his strike was powerful, but Albiol charged it down.
Moreno was offside! The Villarreal striker has the ball in the back of the net, but Moreno was well offside when the pass was made in behind. Everyone on the pitch had stopped.
Barcelona have a mid-week fixture against Celta Vigo on Thursday night, so it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see Koeman start wrapping some of his best players in cotton wool.
Those changes from Emery at the interval have given Villarreal a bit more control in the centre of the pitch, but they aren't doing much with the extra possession they are having.
PICTURE: Barca have been impressive so far tonight
Messi shot on target! Ansu clips a pass through for the Argentine, he swivels to get the shot away on goal inside the area, but the effort was straight at Asenjo who makes the save.
Some supporters are letting off fireworks over the Camp Nou. There have been fireworks on the pitch as well, at least from a Barcelona point of view. They have been very good.
- OffFrancis CoquelinVillarreal CF
- OnManu TriguerosVillarreal CF
... and the second change from the Villarreal manager sees Trigueros come on for Alcacer.
- OffPaco AlcácerVillarreal CF
- OnVicente IborraVillarreal CF
Emery has made a couple of changes for the start of the second half, with Iborra coming on for Coquelin...

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Barcelona 4-0 Villarreal. What a first half performance that was from Barca. The Koeman era is well and truly up and running. There's surely no way back for Villarreal from this.
- Own-goalPau TorresVillarreal CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 4 (45 mins - Pau Torres OG) Villarreal 0. It's a fourth Barcelona goal before half time! It's an own goal! Messi floated a cross into the middle with Busquets of all people making the run into the six yard box, but Pau stretches out a leg and diverts the ball into the back of his own net!
Villarreal have been overwhelmed in this first half. They started brightly, but Barcelona have turned the screw on them as they have warmed up to the occasion. All over the Yellow Submarine.
This has actually been very impressive from Barcelona. They have been clinical in front of goal, but perhaps most impressive has been the intensity of their pressing when out of possession.
Coutinho... what a save! That looked certain to be a fourth goal for Barcelona, with Roberto finding Coutinho with a cross. His shot was a decent one, but Asenjo pushes it over the bar.
A real chance! A Villarreal corner kick fell to Coquelin inside the area. The former Valencia midfielder plays a pass when he should have taken the shot himself, but the flag is up for offside.
PICTURE: Barca have scored three times in the first half
Emery is slumped in his seat in the Camp Nou away team dugout. Villarreal have been torn to shreds in this first half. They had won one and drawn one from two games coming into this match!
After a turbulent summer, Messi will be relieved to be up and running for the season. Barcelona have been rampant in this first half and there's a sense this could be uglier for Villarreal.
- Goal by penaltyLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 3 (35 mins - Lionel Messi pen) Villarreal 0. Messi steps up to the 12-yard mark after Ansu won the penalty kick and the Barcelona number 10 makes no mistake in squeezing his shot underneath Asenjo. That wasn't the best penalty from Messi, but it got the job done and Barca might already be out of sight.
PENALTY KICK TO BARCELONA! Gaspar trips Ansu inside the area and the referee points to the spot! That's the correct decision.
Barcelona are now taking the opportunity to slow the game down in the centre of the pitch. They have taken a full grip of this match in the last 15 minutes or so. Well on top.
Villarreal started this match brightly, but they are struggling to get out of their own half and aren't making the most of their counter attacking opportunities when they have them.
Will Emery make any changes before half time? This just isn't working for Villarreal at the moment and the former Arsenal and Sevilla boss appears to be deep in thought on the touchline.
It's a little peculiar to see Barcelona play in a 4-2-3-1 shape, but their approach has been good in this first half. They are in control and could have scored more than just two!
MESSI... blocked! That looked certain to be Messi's first goal of the season, with Ansu feeding the pass into the Argentine, but the block was made by Albiol before it could reach Asenjo.
It's not just that Ansu is fast. He is so clincal in front of goal, as he demonstrated with his two goals this evening. Koeman must be careful not to rely on him too much, but Ansu must play a lot this season.
Coutinho deserves credit for picking the pass that led to Ansu's second goal, but it must be said that Villarreal left so much space for the Barcelona counter attack to gallop into.
Emery doesn't look too happy on the touchline. It's a long way back for Villarreal from here, but it's so difficult to defend against some of Ansu's technical ability. He is so, so good!
- GoalAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (20 mins - Ansu Fati) Villarreal 0. It's that man (kid) again! Barcelona came flying forward on the counter attack, Coutinho fed the pass out to Ansu and the teenager had no trouble in sliding home a low finish at the near post! There was never any question over whether he would convert that chance!
Roberto over the bar! Ansu causes mayhem in the Villarreal penalty area with a clipped cross into the middle. The ball fell to Roberto, but he sends his effort over the target.
That was a symbolic moment for Barcelona. Ansu is widely seen as the future of the Catalan club and he's the one who gets the Koeman era up and running with a brilliant goal.
- GoalAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (16 mins - Ansu Fati) Villarreal 0. What an outrageous finish! Alba was released to the byline down the left, he cut the pass back for Ansu and the 17-year-old side-foots a powerful finish high into the Villarreal net! He did such a good job of controlling that finish! A great goal!
Pjanic is on the bench for Barcelona this evening, and there have been some suggestions that he could play the Busquets role, but it's such a specialised position.
That's three times that Busquets has given the ball away and we haven't even played 15 minutes. This was a problem for the midfielder last season. Barca still don't have a replacement for him, though.
Of course, Suarez showed Barcelona what they are missing earlier today, coming off the bench to score twice and assist another on his Atletico Madrid debut against Granada.
This will be a big season for Griezmann. The Frenchman struggled in his first season at Barcelona, but there is a sense that Koeman's system might suit him better. He is playing through the middle.
Barcelona have started the better of the two teams, certainly in terms of the share of possession. However, that suits Villarreal who are looking to play on the rapid counter attack.
PICTURE: Back at Camp Nou
Villarreal were in behind! That was an early opportunity for the away side, but both Alcacer and Chukwueze were too generous with the ball when they should have taken the shot themselves!
Coutinho is back at Barcelona after a season on loan at Bayern Munich. The Brazilian was pretty successful in Bavaria, but Bayern decided against signing him on a permanent basis.
In terms of incoming transfers, it has been a quiet summer for Barcelona. Koeman wanted Memphis and Wijnaldum to be signed, but that hasn't materialised yet. Rakitic, Semedo, Suarez and Vidal have left, though.
There has been a lot of chat about how Koeman will coach this Barcelona team. Messi appears to be positioned on the right with Ansu on the left. De Jong in deep midfield is interesting.
Tonight is Barcelona's first competitive fixture since that disastrous Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in Lisbon. A lot has happened at the club since then!

Parejo tends to play well against Barcelona. Can he carry that trait over to his new club? He's in the Villarreal starting lineup tonight!
Not long until kick off at the Camp Nou. There is a lot of pressure on Barcelona to start their Liga season well, especially after Real Madrid's win over Real Betis last night. This won't be easy, though.
