Real Madrid get the job done and claim three points to lift themselves to third place in La Liga after three games. This was far from a vintage performance from the Spanish champions, but the introduction of Vinicius changed the game. The Brazilian provided the spark the home side needed.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 1-0 Real Valladolid
Villa floats a freekick delivery into the Real Madrid box, but Varane is on hand to make the clearing header and that should just about do it for the home team this evening.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnBorja MayoralReal Madrid
Benzema is withdrawn by Zidane and Mayoral comes on for the final moments.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
There isn't really a feeling that Real Valladolid are on the brink of snatching an equaliser here, but this is the danger with a 1-0 scoreline. It only takes one chance for the away side.
- Yellow cardCasemiroReal Madrid
Casemiro enters the book. You didn't think he was going to get through a full match without a yellow card, did you?
Roberto has been excellent this evening and has made a number of very good saves, but what a slack moment that was from the former West Ham United goalkeeper. Incredible, really.
Off the woodwork! What a let off for Roberto! He rolled the ball out to the edge of the box, Modric made the tackle and got the shot away. Roberto had given up on it, but the ball came off the base of the post!
- OffWaldo RubioReal Valladolid
- OnSergi GuardiolaReal Valladolid
Guardiola also comes on for the final few minutes at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano.
- OffShon Zalman WeissmanReal Valladolid
- OnToni VillaReal Valladolid
It should be noted that Real Valladolid made a change some moments ago, with Villa coming on.
- Yellow cardBruno GonzálezReal Valladolid
Bruno was shown a yellow card for a tackle on Vinicius on the edge of the box.
There is still time for Real Valladolid to grab an equaliser here and snatch a point, but this is becoming a rather open encounter and that will actually favour Real Madrid.
A wasted chance! Real Madrid had a two-on-one situation, but the pass from Benzema through to Vinicius was poor and Carnero made the tackle on the Brazilian before he could get the shot away.
Courtois stops Rubio! Once again, the Real Madrid goalkeeper is called upon to keep Real Valladolid out, this time pushing a powerful strike from Rubio over his own crossbar.
The introduction of Vinicius off the bench has given Real Madrid a different dimension in the attacking third. The Brazilian winger is run at opponents with the ball at his feet.
Real Valladolid certainly haven't given this up. They are showing more intent on the ball when they have it, but that is leaving more space in behind for Real Madrid to exploit.
Courtois has had to be in good form this evening. Real Valladolid have been second best, but they have still managed seven shots and the Belgian has made four saves.
Another save from Courtois! Garcia bursts into the Real Madrid box and had teammates in the middle. The full back decides to take on the shot himself and Courtois saves at the near post.
That wasn't a pretty goal, but it could prove to be an important goal for Real Madrid. The defending was poor from the away side, but Vinicius took the opportunity when it came his way.
- GoalVinícius JúniorReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (67 mins - Vinicius Junior) Real Valladolid 0. There is some confusion over whether or not he was offside, but Vinicius appears to have opened the scoring! A Valverde pass bounced back to the Brazilian off a Real Valladolid player and he tucked home the finish with composure!
- OffFede San EmeterioReal Valladolid
- OnMarcos AndreReal Valladolid
And another change by Real Valladolid. Sergio introduces Andre off the bench.
- OffFabián OrellanaReal Valladolid
- OnKike PérezReal Valladolid
A change for the away side, with Perez coming off the bench for the final 25 minutes.
PICTURE: Courtois has made a couple good saves
Marcelo strikes over the target! The Brazilian left back jinks inside, beats one and then two opponents, but his right-footed strike is wild and the ball flies well wide of the target.
Jovic had a strange game this evening. The Serbian had a couple good opportunities to find the back of the net, but his body language wasn't great. He lacks pace for this team.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnMarco AsensioReal Madrid
And here's a second change for Real Madrid. Asensio is on the final 30 minutes. Isco comes off.
- OffLuka JovicReal Madrid
- OnVinícius JúniorReal Madrid
Indeed, here's the change from Zidane and it's Vinicius on for Jovic.
It looks like Zidane is about to make a change to his Real Madrid team. Vinicius is stripped and ready to come on for the home side. He will inject some pace into their play.
It's important to note just how shaky Courtois looked upon arriving at Real Madrid from Chelsea. The Belgian has grown into a leader for Los Blancos and is having another good season.
All quiet here tonight...
WEISSMAN... saved! The space opened up for the Real Valladolid striker on the edge of the box, he had options either side, but Weissman drew the diving save from Courtois. That was a big chance!
That was another warning sign for Real Madrid. Real Valladolid have been second best in terms of possession and territory, but they are capable of creating a goalscoring chance.
Across the face of goal! That was a chance for Real Valladolid to take a surpise lead. Rubio was given time and space to take down a pass inside the area, but his shot on the turn is dragged wide.
Zidane has options on the bench to shake things up. Rodrygo and Vinicius could be introduced at some point in this second half to give Real Madrid some forward thrust on the wings.
This is much better from Real Madrid at the start of the second half. They have upped the intensity and pace of their play and are looking to make things happen in the final third.
PICTURE: Hazard in the stands
Saved! Off the crossbar! That's the closest we have come to a goal! Jovic's header from a corner kick was saved by Roberto and then Casemiro fired a close range shot off the underside of the crossbar!
Zidane surely wants more from his side in this second half. Real Madrid were also pretty poor in the first half against both Real Sociedad and Real Betis. They did get better against Betis.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's still 0-0 between Real Madrid and Real Valladolid in this La Liga fixture.
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid. Still waiting for the breakthrough at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano and still waiting for Real Madrid to move out of first gear. Haven't got going yet.
Waldo takes aim! The space opened up for the Real Valladolid winger to take the shot from 25 yards out. It was a low drive and Courtois was comfortable in letting that flash wide.
For all his defensive shortcomings, Odriozola showed his quality there. His pace is his best asset and that can make him a very difficult player to play against in the attacking third.
Odriozola into the box! The right back shows a great turn of pace to burst into the penalty area, but he couldn't pick out a teamate in a white shirt in the middle. The block is made.
Shot on target! Orellana decides to try his luck from 25 yards out, it was a decent strike, but Courtois watches it all the way and makes the solid stop to keep the scoreline level.
The body language from Jovic in this first half has been peculiar. He has been presented with a couple of opportunities, but at times it's as if he isn't interested. Really strange.
Into the side netting! That was a nice move from Real Madrid, with the pass clipped into Modric from Marcelo. He set up Jovic for the shot inside the area, but he shoots into the side netting.
Zidane has so many fantastic options in the centre of the pitch but there is definitely a feeling that he is still to find the midfield formula. This selection isn't really working so far.
It's true that Odriozola is prone to being naive defensively, but his pace gets him out of trouble so often. That is his best quality, both in an attacking and a defensive sense.
Real Madrid have certainly seen more of the ball and have had the best chances, but Real Valladolid don't look second rate here. They are this first half like they belong here.
PICTURE: Odriozola is back at Real Madrid
Crucial interception! Real Madrid found themselves a little bit short at the back, with Plano in behind on the counter. But Odriozola did well to cut out the cross into the middle.
It's quite interesting that Benzema is the one dropping deep to pick up the ball for Real Madrid and drive it forward, with Jovic keeping his position as the apex of the attack.
That was disappointing from Modric. Real Madrid had players up from the back for the set piece on the left side, but the delivery from the Croatian was poor and Roberto gathers with ease.
We might only be three games into the new season, but the pressure is already on Real Madrid after Barcelona laid down a marker with their impressive win over Villarreal on Sunday.
Sergio has pulled Weismann to the touchline. The Real Valladolid head coach is surely pleased what he has seen from his team in the early stages of this match, but he wants more it seems.
Zidane looks a little frustrated on the touchline. This has been a mediocre start from Real Madrid who have struggled to create goalscoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes.
Confusion at the back post! Odriozola plays a deep cross into the middle, but Benzema gets the shout from Isco and leaves it. That really should have been the French striker's ball.
The problem for Jovic is that he isn't as quick as some of his teammates, so he struggles to keep up with them at times. That was evident in that last opportunity for the Serbian.
Big chance for Jovic! That should have been the opening goal for Real Madrid with Valverde bursting down the right. The Uruguyan found Jovic in the middle, but he side foots wide of the target!
Once again, there's no Hazard for Real Madrid this evening. The Belgian is expected to miss three to four weeks of action having already missed the start of the season through injury.
PICTURE: Marcelo is back in the Real Madrid team
This has been a decent start to the match by Real Valladolid. Indeed, Real Madrid are not having it all their own way. The visitors are showing some bravery on the ball.
Jovic was lurking! Sanchez had to keep his eye on the cross into the middle, clearing for the corner kick, as Jovic was in the six yard box waiting for the ball to reach him. Crucial.
Jovic didn't see much of the ball against Real Betis at the weekend, but he was crucial in drawing defenders away from Benzema. He has started this game well. Interesting...
First Marcelo, then Valverde! Jovic played the pass to Marcelo inside the box, his shot was blocked, the ball then found its way to Valverde, but his low effort is tipped wide of the post by Roberto!
It looks like a 4-1-3-2 shape from Real Madrid this evening, with Casemiro as the midfield anchor and Benzema partnering Jovic as a front two. Let's see if it works for them.
The selection of Odriozola at right back for this game this evening is interesting given how Real Madrid allowed Hakimi to leave the club for Inter when he was surely a better option?
Saved by Courtois! Weismann directs a header on target and the Real Madrid goalkeeper has to be alert to make the save. That was a warning to the home side. They can't be slack at the back.
Marcelo has been handed his first start of the season. Zidane rotated the Brazilian with Mendy at left back last season and this is a sign he will do the same again in this campaign.
Real Madrid found exceptional form at home over the final few weeks of last season. The Estadio Alfredo di Stefano has become a fortress for them, even without any supporters!
Odegaard started both games against Real Sociedad and Real Betis, but there's still a sense that the Norwegian has yet to find his role under his Zidane and is out of the lineup tonight.
Real Madrid started the season poorly away to Real Sociedad two weeks ago, but were a lot better against Real Betis at the weekend, getting their title defence up and running.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Real Madrid against Real Valladolid in this La Liga fixture!
Okay, here we go. We are about to get started at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano. Kick off is just moments away.
Zidane has made four changes to the team that beat Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin at the weekend.
Real Madrid are back at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano tonight as the Santiago Bernabeu continues to be redeveloped.
Zidane has made the decision to drop Odegaard to the bench after he struggled in Real Madrid's first two games of the season. Isco comes into the side to give the home side some creativity in attack.
Odriozola in the side! There's an unfamiliar face in the Real Madrid lineip this evening, with Odriozola starting at right back having spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich. He's back.
Jovic starts! There are a few surprises in the Real Madrid team this evening, but perhaps the most surprising name in there is Jovic! This is his second start in succession!
