All things considered, this has been one of Barcelona's best performances of the season so far. This takes the Catalans to within just two points of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.
- Yellow cardJordánSevilla FC
Jordan finally gets the yellow card he probably should have got in the first few minutes of this match.
There will be four minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
- OffRonald AraújoFC Barcelona
- OnSamuel UmtitiFC Barcelona
Umtiti was also introduced for the injured Araujo before the second Barca goal.
Braithwaite has been playing in the centre forward role for much of the season for Barcelona. The Dane is a decent option to have in the squad, but isn’t a natural goalscorer like Suarez.
- OffOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
- OnMartin BraithwaiteFC Barcelona
It should be noted that Braithwaite is on for the final few moments of the match.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sevilla 0 Barcelona 2 (86 mins - Lionel Messi). And that will be the points in the bag for Barcelona and it's Messi who has added his name to the score sheet! The Argentine was through on goal, got a bit lucky with a defelction off Bono and finished into the net from about a yard or two out!
Araujo is down! Uh oh. This is a problem for Barcelona. Araujo has only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes, but it looks like the defender will have to come off here.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NO! En-Nesyri has the ball in the back of the net, but the Sevilla forward handled the ball before he got the shot away. Disallowed!
Close at the back post! A flick on from a freekick gave Araujo a chance at the back post, but the Barcelona centre back just couldn't reach far enough to turn it home.
Of course, Barcelona's recent good form comes against the backdrop of continued political and financial turmoil. The presidential election is finally set to take place at the start of next month.
While Barcelona have lacked consistency all season long, there is still a chance that could become part of the title race if they can keep their good league form going over the next few weeks.
Sevilla need to find something to build on here. They have offered very little here this afternoon. Lopetegui will be disappointed by what he has seen from his players.
PICTURE: Dembele's goal is still the difference
- OffPedriFC Barcelona
- OnIlaix MoribaFC Barcelona
Here's the change for Barcelona as Ilaix comes on for the injured Pedri.
Pedri is on the same wavelength as Messi. There has been even been suggestions that the Argentine could be persuaded to stay at Barcelona to act as a mentor to the teenager.
One of the biggest success stories of this season for Barcelona has been the emergence of Pedri as a key figure. The teenager looks like the real deal. What an incredible talent he is.
Pedri injury! This doesn't look too good. The teenage playmaker has signalled to the Barcelona bench that he wants to come off. Is it a hamstring injury? The change is being readied.
Araujo had been filling in very effectively for Pique, but the Uruguayan centre back suffered an injury of his own and he is currently sidelined. He would surely be Pique’s first choice partner if both were fit.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NO! Barcelona have the ball in the back of the net, with Lenglet heading home from a freekick, but the French defender was offside from the set piece.
Pique is going to be forced off here. He has struggled for much of the match and Araujo is on to replace him.
Koeman will be pleased with how his team has played this afternoon, but the Barcelona might be nervous that they haven't been able to turn their pressure into a second goal.
A double change for Sevilla as de Jong and Rakitic come off for Oscar and Torres.
For once it was Messi show lacked composure in front of goal and not Dembele who did everything he could have to set up the chance for his teammate. Should have been two.
Messi over the target! Dembele does brilliantly to break in behind, cut back and set up Messi for the shot, but the Barcelona number 10 sticks his effort wildly over the crossbar!
Smashed off the woodwork! So close to a second for Barcelona! Alba's cross fell to Dest and the American right back lashes a strike off the crossbar! If only he'd shown more composure!
PICTURE: Messi has an assist
Of course, Kounde is a standout performer for Sevilla. The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League and certainly has the potential to play at the elite level of the game. Although he was poor for the opener here!
Rakitic is up against his former club this afternoon. The Croatian midfielder had become a target for criticism in the latter stages of this Barca career, but he has been rejuvenated for Sevilla.
Navas draws the save! The former Manchester City winger gets the low strike away from outside the Barcelona penalty area, but ter Stegen gets down to make the solid diving save.
Atletico Madrid’s stuttering form has opened the door at the top of La Liga. A draw and a defeat to Levante in back-to-back games has seen the gap between top spot and the rest narrow to just three points.
Alba couldn't stretch! De Jong had the chance to pick out the Barcelona left back inside the area, but the cross from the Dutch midfielder was too strong and he couldn't connect!
Sevilla have made great strides under Lopetegui although there is still a sense that they are lacking that killer instinct. A win here this afternoon would prove they have added that to their game. Need to turn this around.
- Yellow cardKarim RekikSevilla FC
Rekik has only been on the pitch for a few minutes and he's already been shown a yellow.
PICTURE: Dembele found the net
So that triple change from Lopetegui all but reveals that he wasn't happy with the way his team played in the first half. Sevilla will have to create much more in this second period.
- OffDiego CarlosSevilla FC
- OnKarim RekikSevilla FC
Lopetegui actually made three changes at the start of the second half with Rekik and Suso on off the bench for Sevilla.
- OffPapu GómezSevilla FC
- OnYoussef En-NesyriSevilla FC
A change for Sevilla at the start of the second half and En-Nesyri has been introduced.
The second half is under way! Barcelona have a 1-0 lead over Sevilla in this La Liga fixture.
HALF TIME: Sevilla 0-1 Barcelona. Dembele's goal is the difference between the two teams at the break and the Catalans probably deserve to be ahead of this stage. On top.
There will be one minute of stoppage time played at the end of the first half.
Messi lucky! The Barcelona number 10 was booked just moments ago, now he's brought down Kounde on the break. Sevilla's players believe Messi should have been sent off!
- Yellow cardDiego CarlosSevilla FC
Carlos is flashed a yellow card for a foul on Messi. Can have no complaints.
DEST... over! De Jong played the pass out to his former Ajax teammate on the right, Dest cut inside and created the space for the shot, but he can only direct his effort over the bar!
- Yellow cardFernandoSevilla FC
Fernando becomes the first player to be shown a yellow by the referee.
Good play down the right! Pedri played a wonderful pass for Dest down the right, the American got his cross into the middle, but Sevilla manage to scramble the clearance away.
One of Sevilla’s biggest problems under Lopetegui has been that they have lacked a true goalscorer to lead the line, but En-Nesyri has found the back of the net 17 times this season.
Sevilla need to do more to create chances when they have the ball. Lopetegui's side haven't been allowed to get to the edge of the Barcelona box. Disappointing so far.
Goal stands! The officials have decided that there was no handball by Lenglet and Barcelona do indeed have a valuable lead over Sevilla in this match. They have edged it.
VAR check... the officials are looking at what could be a handball by Lenglet in the build-up to the goal. Indeed, the ball did brush the arm of the French defender. Will this stand?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sevilla 0 Barcelona 1 (29 mins - Ousmane Dembele). Barcelona have the breakthrough and it's Dembele who has found the back of the net! Messi played the pass through for the Frenchman, the Sevilla defence was split and Dembele did well to keep calm and slot the finish past Bono!
This has been a cagey affair so far. That maybe reflects just how big a match this is for both teams. A win would thrust them into title contention. A defeat would surely end those hopes.
There have been a number of fouls that could have produced bookings, but the referee has been keen to let the game flow and has kept the cards in his pocket so far.
Messi nearly catches out Bono! The Barcelona number 10 spotted the Sevilla goalkeeper slightly off his line from the freekick, but Bono gets back to catch on his line!
Dembele has been given a good run in the Barcelona team this season. He has benefited from the injury Ansu suffered earlier in the campaign and has done more to prove his worth.
Shot from Dembele! That's the first shot on target from either side with the Barcelona winger cutting inside on to his left foot to get the strike away, but Bono makes the diving save!
Pique has missed much of the season through injury, but made a surprise return to first team action in the Champions League defeat to PSG. Barcelona need to be careful not to rush him back too early.
After a slightly passive start from Sevilla, the home side are now starting to come into this game. They are seeing more of the ball and are trying to hit out on the counter.
PICTURE: No early breakthrough
Gomez has the chance to run at the Barcelona defence on the edge of the box for the first time this afternoon. The former Atalanta playmaker has settled in well at his new club.
Dest has settled in quickly as a Barcelona player. The American international is now first choice at right back following his summer transfer from Ajax and has impressed in between injuries.
It's been a bright start from Barcelona in terms of their share of the possession and the territorial advantage they have enjoyed, but they have yet to create a scoring chance.
It’s not so long ago that Sevilla beat Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi final. The second leg will take place next week and Lopetegui’s side appear to have the Catalans’ number.
However, Barcelona have also won their last six games away from home. A win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan would be arguably the Catalans’ most impressive Liga result of the season so far.
Sevilla are in excellent form in La Liga at the moment. Indeed, Lopetegui’s side come into this fixture on the back of six successive victories in the division. They can leapfrog Barca with another win here.
Sevilla are having to do a bit of chasing at the moment. They are struggling to get the ball off the visitors to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan right now. Having to be patient.
Dest gets to the byline after being released down the right wing by Messi, but Escudero does well to track the American international and make the block to stop his cross.
Barcelona come into this match on the back of a 3-0 win over Elche. It took the Catalans some time to get going, but they found their groove in the second half and produced an impressive performance.
That's a cruncher of a tackle from Jordan through the back of Busquets. Had that not happened in the opening few minutes of the game, that surely would have been a yellow.
Barcelona are enjoying some possession in the early stages of the match. This is a slightly different system from the Catalans, although they have played a back four before this season.
As mentioned in the build up to this match, there were some concerns over ter Stegen's fitness, but the German is in the Barcelona starting lineup. That will be a relief for Koeman.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Sevilla against Barcelona in this La Liga fixture!
Okay, here we go. We are about to get under way at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Kick off is just moments away.
The players are out on the pitch at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. It's a dry, but slightly grey afternoon in Seville.
Ter Stegen looks to have picked up a thumb injury in the warm-up. Will the German start the match?
Not long until kick off at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. This has the potential to be one of the most compelling and entertaining matches in European football this weekend!
Sevilla have been in good form of late and they could enter the title race at the top of La Liga with a victory this afternoon. Julen Lopetegui's side are a real force at the moment.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. Will Sevilla be title challengers with a win here? What do you think of the Barca team? Tweet me - @grahamruthven!
Change of system! It appears Koeman has gone with a back five with Alba and Dest as full backs. That does pose some questions over where Dembele will be deployed for Barcelona here...
