According to L'Equipe, Marseille chairman Pape Diouf will inquire at the start of next week about the availability of Wiltord, who has one year left on his contract at Ligue 1 champions Lyon.
This is not the first time Marseille have tried to sign Wiltord, who has scored over 100 goals in the French league during his time at Rennais, Bordeaux and Lyon.
Back in July 2004, head coach Jose Anigo wanted Wiltord at the Stade Velodrome when the striker was told by Arsenal that he could look for another club.
However, l'OM could not afford his salary, reported to be around 2.5 million euros, and the France international ended up joining rivals Lyon.
Marseille have already signed a new attacker in the form of Algerian Karim Ziani from Sochaux, who has already drawn comparisons with Ribery.
They are also expected to sign Djibril Cisse from Liverpool, who has been at the club on loan for the past season.
