Paris Saint-Germain had 10 wins from 10, and old rivals Marseille started with an intensity that betrayed their wish to throw them off their stride.
PSG started without Thiago Silva, Kylian Mbappe, Adrian Rabiot and Edinson Cavani, and they suffered without half of their best line-up. Instead, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scuffed his chances, the last creating the only good chance of the first half. In added time, Kevin Strootman had to clear off the line after Julian Draxler drilled in an effort.
In the second half, the struggling Choupo-Moting was swiftly replaced by Mbappe, who needed just a handle of minutes, and one chance, to put his side ahead with a well taken goal.
That set up Marseille to chase the game but by then their legs had gone, and it was no surprise when Neymar and Mbappe combined to set up for a late injury-time second.
While PSG stretch their lead at the top to 11 points, Marseille remain in fifth.

TALKING POINT

Choupo-Moting is a bizarre signing. The forward was brought in from Stoke, relegated to the Championship, and made his third appearance for PSG against Marseille. He showed little talent, and is presumably only there because Thomas Tuchel managed him earlier in his career. He might be an excellent professional, but the amount of time he will get at the club should be so small as to render his presence pointless.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain): He only needed a few minutes to win the game for PSG, and his direct running is in contrast with Neymar’s sullen, over-egged style. He is only a couple of years away from being the indisputably the best player in the world, and it is hard to doubt he will get there.

56’ - NEYMAR CHANCE - A few drag backs from Neymar, and a roll of the foot forward, with a nutmeg, takes the striker away from three players, into the space in the box, and he drills a shot just wide of the post.
65’ - GOAL! Marseille 0-1 PSG. Mbappe scores - The young forward is released down the inside right by Di Maria, he flies forward and Kamara can't quite reach him, before he passes a shot underneath the outstretched foot of Mandanda.
90+5’ - GOAL! Marseille 0-2 PSG. Draxler scores - Draxler taps in at the back post after a one-two across half the length of the pitch between Neymar and Mbappe allows Neymar to shoot wide or cross for Draxler score.
