Young joined United in 2011 for a deal worth in the region of £18m and has gone on to play 193 games for the Red Devils.
The 32-year-old's contract was due to expire this summer but United have confirmed they have activated a clause to extend the contract by 12 months.
The former Aston Villa winger found himself on the periphery of the United first team under Louis van Gaal but, after being converted to a left-back by Jose Mourinho, has featured more regularly this season.
The club have exercised an option to extend the 31-cap England international’s contract by one year, tying him to the club until 2019.
News of the contract extension could have implications for left-back Luke Shaw, whose future is reportedly uncertain after he was criticised by Mourinho following Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton.
