Football news - David Beckham statue to be unveiled at LA Galaxy

A statue of David Beckham will be unveiled by LA Galaxy ahead of their MLS season opener at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The honour, which was revealed in correspondence to season-ticket holders, is thought to be the first of its kind in the MLS and will be positioned outside the main entrance.
Beckham arrived in 2007 under the ‘Designated Player’ rule for those high-profile players whose salary might affect the cap of a club. His stints at Manchester United and Real Madrid helped to increase the profile of the team and the division.
Although the former England captain’s early career in the States was haunted by an Achilles problem, he ended up featuring 122 times for the Galaxy and he helped them to Supporters Shield titles in 2010 and 2011 alongside MLS Cup triumphs in 2011 and 2012.
Galaxy face Chicago Fire on March 2.
