The tug of war for Sancho

Manchester United will battle Paris Saint-Germain for the £100m signature of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, the Telegraph reports. Sancho has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Bundesliga this season, and made his senior England debut last year. The figure would make Sancho, 18, the most expensive English footballer in history.
Paper Round’s view: From Manchester City to Dortmund, and now already talk of a move to either United or PSG. Sancho is one of football’s hottest properties, and £100m would be an investment worth making, but the teenager must consider where he will be best off in terms of development. It could become crowded at United if he was to head to Old Trafford, while he would have to cope in the shadows of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at PSG – staying put is arguably his best option, for now.

PL clubs on Bale alert

The recent outburst from Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has put Premier League clubs on alert, according to the Mirror. Barnett suggested Real Madrid fans should be kissing the feet of Bale, labelling them a “disgrace” for jeering the Welshman off as he was substituted for Marco Asensio in the 1-0 defeat to Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Saturday. Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with Bale, and though Barnett said the player was going nowhere, the agent’s comments could play a factor in whether the forward returns to the Premier League.
Paper Round’s view: Barnett seemed adamant Bale would not be leaving Spain this summer, but his comments will not have helped the matter. Bale may have contributed with some telling moments at Real, but the recent admissions from Marcelo and Thibaut Courtois suggest his inability to mingle with his team-mates has been somewhat detrimental to the dressing room. There will be no shortage of suitors, especially in the Premier League, hopefully it’s Bale who has the final say.

The battle for Isco

Liverpool and Manchester United will battle it out for the signature of Real Madrid playmaker Isco this summer, the Mail reports. The Spaniard has been reduced to appearances off the bench under manager Santiago Solari this season, and the one-time Manchester City target is expected to leave the Bernabeu if Solari remains in charge beyond the current campaign.
Paper Round’s view: Starved of opportunities, if Solari does stay then Isco will almost have no choice but to leave. He does not have to rush his decision, though, and with Real only really having the Champions League to play for, there’s every chance he could outlast Solari in the Spanish capital.

Break the bank for Tielemans

Leicester will have to break their transfer record if they are to make the signing of Youri Tielemans permanent in the summer, the Telegraph reports. The midfielder joined the Foxes on loan from Monaco on deadline day in January, and the Ligue 1 club are reportedly demanding £40m for the 21-year-old, who set up goals for Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy in recent games.
Paper Round’s view: It’s a big call to smash your club’s record transfer fee, and it will be interesting to see how much new manager Brendan Rodgers has to spend in the summer. It’s a substantial amount for Leicester to invest in one player – he will have to prove he’s worth it over the coming months.
