Pog wars

Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba are once more at loggerheads following Manchester United’s draw to Wolves on the weekend. The Sun claims Mourinho gave Pogba a ‘dressing room dressing down’ after his error led to Wolves’ equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Mourinho reportedly told the Frenchman his mistakes were putting the club in the spotlight, with United now eight points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool after just six games.

Pog gone?

The Mirror have gone one step further by stating the latest spat suggests Pogba is heading for the exit door at Old Trafford. The World Cup winner has endured a rocky relationship with Mourinho at United, and has been linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona and even Manchester City this year after Pep Guardiola revealed agent Mino Raiola had offered the midfielder to their city rivals back in January.
Paper Round’s view: Another week, another story involving Mourinho and Pogba. It had been a few weeks since they came to blows, so it was about time… As with all these issues, only victories can quieten talk of unease. United must get back to winning ways, or else the ‘turmoil’ will continue.

The £72m De Jong race

Manchester United and Manchester City face competition from Real Madrid for Frenkie de Jong of Ajax, according to the Daily Mail. The 21-year-old Dutch international is fast becoming one of the most coveted talents in Europe, with Tottenham, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG also said to be interested in securing his services. Ajax rejected Barcelona’s summer advances, and are said to value De Jong at £72m.
Paper Round’s view: That’s quite the list! It’s a good time to be likened to midfielder Luka Modric, and price-tags these days make you shrug more than anything - £72m? Why not. Chelsea spent that on a goalkeeper.

Sven to Iran?

Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to take over Iranian side Tractor Sazi, according to the Sun. The Persian Gulf Pro League club want the former England manager to replace ex-Wales and Real Madrid coach John Toshack, who was sacked after they were knocked out of the domestic cup earlier this month.
Paper Round’s view: *searches Tractor Sazi* Ah yes, of course, Tractor Sazi Tabriz Football Club commonly known as Tractor or Tıraxtur or Tirextur is a professional football club based in Tabriz, Iran. The club was founded in 1970 and were promoted to the first division five years later. They have won the Hazfi Cup once, and have three times finished second in Iran Pro League.
