Phil Neville in running for England Women’s manager job

Phil Neville is in the race to become Mark Sampson’s successor as the manager of the England Women’s football team.

The Football Association is currently going through the interview process as it aims to appoint a full-time manager.

Mo Marley has been placed in temporary charge following Sampson’s sacking in September, and she has guided England to a 4-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as a 5-0 win over Kazakhstan.

Marley applied for the full-time role following the two World Cup qualifying victories, but it is understood that Neville is also in the running.

Former Manchester United and Everton player Neville has held previous coaching roles at Old Trafford, and also at Valencia when his brother Gary was head coach at the Mestalla.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Chelsea player Claire Rafferty confirmed Neville’s interest.

“Phil Neville's in the running for it,” she said, but was unsure of how serious he was about taking up the role permanently.
