Manchester United ‘contacted Jose Mourinho rep after Midtjylland humiliation’

Manchester United sounded out Jose Mourinho’s agent following their dismal defeat to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, according to an intriguing report.

The Manchester Evening News allege that United contacted Jorge Mendes to determine whether Mourinho was contemplating a return to Inter Milan, who he led to the treble in 2010.
United have not agreed a deal with Mourinho, who has already rejected offers to return to work from Italian and Chinese clubs and, while he is eager to succeed Louis van Gaal, M.E.N. Sport understands he is not prepared to 'wait forever' for the role.
Mourinho is due to attend Inter’s clash with Sampdoria on Saturday, fuelling speculation he could take over from the struggling Roberto Mancini at the San Siro.
However, the 53-year-old rejected the link in an interview with La Stampa and remains the frontrunner to succeed Louis van Gaal, should the Dutchman’s time run out at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal’s stock is at an all-time low after back-to-back defeats, with the club in serious danger of missing out on next season’s Champions League.
The MEN demanded Van Gaal’s departure for the first time on their back page in Friday’s newspaper.
