DANGER MAN: Sergio Aguero needs one goal to equal the most goals scored by a player in Premier League Manchester derbies and go level with Wayne Rooney (8). If he scores in this game then Aguero would have managed that in eight games, while Rooney took 16 derbies to do that. He has scored 11 goals in his last eight Premier League appearances at the Etihad Stadium.

Louis van Gaal: "We have to beat City and we have a chance to still qualify (for Champions League). There is always pressure. Expectations are very high so pressure for these players is always very high. We can cope with that but we were not lucky (against Liverpool). We had to recover from the West Ham game (last Sunday) and Liverpool had a week free and you could see that in the last 15 minutes and now we have the same against City. But we keep our confidence because Arsenal had the same benefit three weeks ago and we beat them also (3-2)."

City are 12 points behind leaders Leicester City with a game in hand but Pellegrini refuses to rule out his team's title chances. "In football when you have a mathematical chance you cannot think you cannot do it. It's a winning mentality, win the next game and then see which team has the most points. "A derby is always dangerous regardless of the position of both teams. United have a very good squad, it doesn't matter which way they play they're always a dangerous team."

Manuel Pellegrini: "If you have 24-48 hours more rest it's important, it's not a decisive thing for the game but you can prepare better. That's the problem with the Europa League. You play on Thursday, it's not easy to prepare."

So Nicolas Otamendi has failed to recover to make a City defence bolstered by Demichelis and Mangala. Marouane Fellaini returns to the bench for United alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Five minutes until the team sheets are released. This we do know. Man City defenders Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi were forced off in the first half of Tuesday's game by injury. Kompany will be sidelined for around a month with a calf problem but Otamendi could be fit to return against sixth-placed United. For United, Ander Herrera is a doubt after missing the Europa League loss to Liverpool with a groin problem, but Ashley Young and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are both back in training and could be called upon.
