A ball into the box from the free kick is cleared, and the second effort is claimed by Adrian. He gets ready to clear the ball, but Dean whistles for full time. West Ham were the better side, and West Ham defended sturdily enough. Sunderland, for their part, wasted too many half chances.

Payet concedes a cynical free kick with 15 seconds left just inside Sunderland's half.

A minute left, and West Ham are sitting back.

Carroll concedes a foul as he pushes over a defender. Kirchhoff gets up after suffering cramp.

West Ham are sitting back now, trying to absorb the pressure from their semi-competent opposition.

Khazri attempts a rabona on the touchline with a few minutes left, the ball running from Van Aanholt, and it runs out of play.

Another wasted cross by Sunderland. There's five minutes left.

Payet rolls the ball to Kouyate ahead of him and to the left, and he tries to do the same for Cresswell, but the ball is just behind him. Moments later, Payet chests down a header, and drags a volley just wide of the goal.

Noble is replaced by Obiang.

Kirchhoff picks out N'Doyne on the left. He forces Adrian into a save, pushing it away from goal, and the 'keeper then claims the rebound when O'Shea heads towards goal.

A ball is whipped into Defoe in the box, Byram cuts it out and the ball runs to Rodwell. Adrian rushes out to close down space, and Rodwell lifts a shot well away from the goal.

A cross to the back post is met by Byram, who heads towards Carroll. Carroll leans back and shins a thumping volley against the crossbar.

Yedlin gets around the defence,cuts the ball back to Rodwell in the box. He fires in a low shot, and Adrian blocks with his feet. Rodwell tucks the rebound into the net, but only after he uses his hand to control.

Kine drags Payet to the ground in the box, but somehow escapes punishment. Ah, Mike Dean.

Khazri lifts the ball over the wall, but Adrian can collect at waist height.

Moses rolls a pass down the left for Carroll, but he sticks a leg out as he falls, passing inside for the ball to be intercepted. Sunderland drive up the other end, and Byram trips Defoe who was inches from taking the ball into the box. That's Byram's 10th yellow of the season, and a two game ban is his reward.

Payet finds Moses on the left, he cuts in onto his right foot, and bobbles a low shot at the near post which Mannone saves. It was probably going wide.

Antonio crosses from the right, the ball strikes O'Shea's arm and runs to Payet. It's not a penalty, and while everyone else is appealing, Payet sends a shot over the bar.
