Liverpool announced a £29m deal for Brazil forward Roberto Firmino and Twitter reacted in the following, inevitable fashion.

Will Roberto Firmino be a success at Liverpool?
It was clearly a coup for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers as he splashed out big money on a Brazil international.
And soon the stats were flowing to show what kind of an impact Firmino has had for Hoffenheim in recent seasons.
As this graphic from Sky Sports demonstrated, Firmino had a bigger impact than any of Liverpool’s attacking midfielders last season, Raheem Sterling included.
There was some healthy scepticism about whether this was indeed a value for money purchase for Liverpool.
But were Liverpool fans getting a bit too excited about a player they’d never really seen play?
It wasn’t just Liverpool fans desperate to have an opinion on the Bundesliga star. Manchester United fans were hastily revising theirs after previously thinking he could be on the way to Old Trafford.
Was this debate symptomatic of Twitter’s In The Know mentality, with punters pushing forth their views on a player they in truth knew little about?
Some Liverpool fans certainly thought Firmino would have a huge impact this coming season.
This appraisal of the deal was probably a bit over-optimistic. Is Firmino really a top player? And has it dispelled the suggestion that such players won’t sign for Brendan Rodgers?
More likely the big wages on offer have tempted a talented player to Anfield – and let’s not forget, it’s not as if by leaving Hoffenheim he’s had to forgo a place in the Champions League next season.
Neither the German club nor Liverpool are at Europe’s top table next season. A fact picked up on by the inevitable parody account for Liverpool’s latest star.
