Manchester United have made an astonishing bid to sign Barcelona forward Neymar. That and more from Saturday's papers.

United want to bring Neymar to Old Trafford - Manchester United have submitted a bid to sign Brazil forwar Neymar, according to The Sun. Ed Woodward apparently made enquiries about Neymar's availability while he was in Barcelona to discuss the club's potential move for new Chelsea signing Pedro before Louis van Gaal pulled the plug on that one. LVG certainly would not be rejecting the possibility of landing Neymar in a deal that would cost United around the £80m mark to force through if Barca are interested in selling. The Sun claims Paris Saint-Germain are also chasing the 23-year-old attacker. A Barca "source" apparently told SunSport: "United are one of the biggest clubs in the world so it is right they should be chasing a player who has the potential to be the best player on the planet.”
Paper Round's view - United apparently want to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid as their blue-chip signing of the summer, but Neymar would not be a bad player to land if he is on the market. Is this story credible? Sounds highly unlikely that Barca would be willing to break up the all-conquering Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar combination that scaled Spain and Europe to such effect last season, but stranger things have happened in football. With just over a week until the window closes, watch this space.

French midfielder Paul Pogba is under contract at Juventus until June 2019

Chelsea chase Pogba and Stones in £100m deal - The Daily Star claims Chelsea are keen to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus for £60m and Stones for £40m. Having landed Pedro from Barcelona for £21m from Barca, Jose Mourinho, the newspaper claims Jose Mourinho's spending spree has not stopped as Chelsea look to find their form having picked up only one point from their opening two matches in the Premier League.
Paper Round's view - Another report this morning in The Sun claims Chelsea are willing to offer Oscar, Juan Cuadrado and Willian plus £60m to sign Pogba. Which may be more like the thing if estimates about the France midfielder being worth more than £100m are to be believed. Chelsea will surely face stiff competition from Real and Paris Saint-Germain to land Pogba.

Asier Illarramendi

Liverpool chase Asier Illarramendi - Brendan Rodgers apparently remains keens to land the Real Madrid midfielder, who has toiled for regular action at the Bernabeu. The Spanish newspaper Marca are claiming that Liverpool remain very interested in the player. Liverpool are apparently willing to offer 15million Euros with Madrid coach Rafael Benitez keen to free up space in his squad.
Paper Round's view - Sounds a bit more believable than United's pursuit of Neymar, and perhaps Benitez could do Liverpool a favour by allowing Illarrmendi to join his old club. Illarramendi has toiled to establish himself at the Bernabeu since his 2013 move from Real Sociedad. Has fallen further down the Madrid pecking order after they signed Mateo Kovacic from Inter earlier this week. Sociedad are apparently also interested, a move that may naturally appeal to the player if he wishes to remain in Spain.

Chelsea's Victor Moses

West Ham keen to land Victor Moses - West Ham United have apparently launched a £6m bid to sign Victor Moses from Chelsea, according to the Mirror. Chelsea are apparently keen to move on Moses and Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado, who only arrived in London from Fiorentina in a £27m transfer at the outset of the year. Chelsea apparently want £10m for the player with Spurs and Aston Villa also interested.
Paper Round's view - Hasn't really worked out for Moses, who joined Chelsea from Wigan in 2012 but has scored only one goal for the club. Has spent the past few years on loan at Liverpool and Stoke. Now would seem like the ideal time to move away from Chelsea on a permanent contract. The only stumbling block to his departure would appear to be the fee Chelsea apparantly seek.
