When does the summer transfer window open?

Thursday, May 17 at 12.01am (BST).

When does it close?

August 9 at 5pm - two days before the start of the Premier League season on August 11 and 12.

Any rule changes?

No, the same rules apply as long as transfers, fees and paperwork are concluded within the new window times and dates.

Why has it changed?

It has been agreed by Premier League clubs that the window should close before the season starts. Rather than encourage confusion and wheeling and dealing to sign/sell players until August 31 when the campaign is already up and running.

But to meet FIFA rules that the window must be open for a full period of 12 weeks, the Premier League clubs can begin to sign players from May 17. The previous date was June 1.
It means in theory, clubs can sign players before this summer's World Cup finals in Russia. And find out if they have bought wisely during the tournament.

Can Manchester United and Chelsea sign new players for the FA Cup final?

No. Their squads are set for the 2017/18 season, which does not officially end until after the Cup final. Players bought now are only registered when the new 2018/19 season officially begins on July 1.

What about the English Football League?

EFL clubs can begin to sign players from May 7 as their season begins on August 4, a week earlier than the Premier League. They have also moved their deadlines, but the EFL loan window will continue to operate until August 31.

Can any business be done after the August 9 deadline?

Premier League clubs can sell players until the old deadline of August 31, but can't buy new players after the new deadline.

Is it only the Premier League?

Yes. The top leagues in Spain, Germany, Italy and France will continue working to the old windows of June 1 until August 31.
