Manchester United are confident that David De Gea will commit his long-term future to the club whilst Chelsea want Andy Carroll as cover. It's Monday's Paper Round.

Man Utd confident De Gea will sign

Most of the papers carry reports that Manchester United are growing increasingly confident that David De Gea will sign a new deal and commit his future to the club. United plan to put De Gea on the same wage as Paul Pogba, the club's highest earner who is on £300,000-a-week. De Gea had previously been the subject of bids from Real Madrid.
Paper Round's view: De Gea has proven himself time and time again as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. If United can keep him for what should theoretically be the peak of his career as a goalkeeper it can be a great platform for success for Jose Mourinho's squad.

Chelsea want Carroll

We move on to The Telegraph, who report that Chelsea are planning to step up their efforts to sign Andy Carroll from West Ham. Both Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard have been struggling for form and fitness yet Antonio Conte still doesn't trust Michy Batshuayi. Whilst Conte is also interested in Richmond Boakye and Christian Benteke, Carroll might be the most likely option.
Paper Round's view: This would certainly be one of the most surprising transfers in recent memory. Carroll has struggled at West Ham, mostly for fitness, but perhaps Conte feels his physicality can help replace Diego Costa? As a loan move it isn't a massive risk but this doesn't look good on Chelsea's transfer policy...

Sanchez to join Man Utd after long pursuit

In the Star there is an exclusive that Alexis Sanchez will join Manchester United after the club first approached the player last summer. Jose Mourinho reportedly stayed in contact with Sanchez and now United are confident that they will be able to do make the deal happen.
Paper Round's view: Most people will criticise United for the amount they're going to be spending in order to land Sanchez but if he helps fire them to a trophy in the next year or so surely it's worth it? City look set to win the Premier League this season but Gabriel Jesus' injury record and Sergio Aguero's desire to return to Argentina could leave them short at some stage. Sanchez could have been the perfect addition to the team.

Puel confident Mahrez will stay

Finally we end with quotes from Leicester City manager Claude Puel, who has said that he has confidence that Riyad Mahrez will stay with the club in January. Mahrez has shone under Puel but the new Leicester boss is pleased with the midfielder's progress despite reported interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
Paper Round's view: Leicester were hugely impressive in their draw at Chelsea and they should be confident of finishing in the top seven. Given the fluctuating form of both Arsenal and the current champions they may even feel that they can aim higher. Keeping Mahrez would be a big statement of intent.
