Spurs look to Evans as possible Alderweireld replacement

We start with a story from The Telegraph that says that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to Jonny Evans as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian has been linked with a move to a host of clubs, including Manchester United and PSG, and if he were to leave then Spurs could swoop for Evans. However the report says that this would be predicated on West Brom being relegated, which would activate a £3 million clause in Evans' contract.
Paper Round's view: Alderweireld is a unique player, one of the best centre-backs in the division. But in Davinson Sanchez Spurs have one of the better young defenders and they need to allow him to develop. Signing an experienced player like Evans could be the perfect move.

Sessegnon unlikely to receive World Cup call

The next story comes from The Mirror, who carry quotes from England U21 manager Aidy Boothroyd, who has said that he does not expect Ryan Sessegnon to get a call from Gareth Southgate in the summer, despite the senior manager name-checking the full-back. Boothroyd did confirm that the Fulham star would make his U21 debut during this international break.
Paper Round's view: As Boothroyd points out, England have to learn the lessons from Theo Walcott's call-up in 2006. Sessegnon is a huge talent, who should be in the Premier League next season, but it is important to allow him to develop naturally.

Southgate hints at Pickford

We've got another story from The Mirror and it's another concerning England, with this one having quotes from Southgate hinting that Jordan Pickford could be his No. 1 for the summer. Southgate's quotes have hinted that Pickford is ahead of Jack Butland due to his ability to play out from the back.
Paper Round's view: Now normally Paper Round would advocate that having a settled situation with goalkeeper would be a good thing, but both Butland and Pickford deserve to be given the final weeks of the season to stake their claim as well as the upcoming friendlies.

Joshua set for Matchroom extension

Finally, we end with a report from The Star which says that Anthony Joshua will sign an extension with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom. Joshua, 28, has just two fights scheduled with Hearn's company and has reportedly been a target for UFC. However the report says that Josua will commit to boxing and will sign a new deal with Hearn.
Paper Round's view: This makes perfect sense. Joshua doesn't need UFC, he has potential to create heavyweight history in boxing. People have their opinions about Hearn but so far he has managed Joshua's career well, and perhaps the fight with Deontay Wilder will be perfectly timed...
