Alvaro Morata: Antonio Conte was reason I rejected Manchester United move
Alvaro Morata has lifted the lid on why he rejected the chance to join Manchester United in favour of Premier League champions Chelsea.
The Real Madrid forward was wanted by United, but opted instead to complete a £70m to Stamford Bridge.
United landed Romelu Lukaku after missing out on Morata, 24, who has no regrets about turning down the chance to work under Jose Mourinho.
"I had various offers this summer, not only Chelsea and Manchester United but also from different leagues. It was a good situation for me," said Morata in the Daily Mail.
"The most important and best conversation I had was with Conte, he wanted me to come here. I felt in debt to him. He signed me for Juventus but left very quickly to manage Italy. I always wanted to play for him after that."
"At the start of the summer, I didn't know that Chelsea were interested in me. I thought they were in for a different player, maybe Lukaku or maybe someone else, I don't know. I didn't think the option of Chelsea was open."
Morata has scored three times in four games for Chelsea before they host London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
