Goals from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood earned Sean Dyche three points on his 250th game in charge.
Burnley started confidently and created several early chances, but were left susceptible to the visitors’ pace on the break.
The Toffees came close to opening the scoring when Gylfi Sigurdsson weaved through the box to put the ball on Tom Davies’ foot - only for Theo Walcott to steal the chance from his teammate and shoot over the bar.
Walcott provided the cross for the opening goal, which Cenk Tosun confidently headed low past Nick Pope after a flick-on from Seamus Coleman.
It was the Turk’s first Premier League goal since his £27m move from Besiktas.
Burnley came close to finding the equaliser when Barnes lashed a header towards goal from a Matt Lawton cross, forcing a spectacular save from Jordan Pickford.
The prospective England goalkeeper made some impressive saves, but failed to come off of his line to prevent Barnes from finding the equaliser. The prospective Austrian international blasted low to Pickford’s left after beating Michael Keane to an incisive through-ball from Matt Lowton.
Burnley pushed hard for the winner and made the breakthrough with their tenth corner of the game. Johann Gudmundsson’s out-swinger was headed into the net by substitute Wood, who found himself free of any Everton markers.
A disappointing day for the visitors was made worse when Ashley Williams received a straight red for raising his arm to Barnes during a set piece. The captain had no complaints as he headed down the tunnel.
The win consolidated Bunrnley’s seventh-place status, putting them five points behind Arsenal.
