Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has hinted that a transfer to Liverpool could still be possible in January and insists that he has no regrets over handing in a transfer request.

Van Dijk, 26, was very public in his attempts to leave the South Coast over the summer, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all reportedly interested in signing him.

Liverpool were forced to issue an apology to Southampton following an approach for Van Dijk but speaking to Fox Sports after being called up to the Netherlands squad Van Dijk hinted that a move could still happen.

“I have no regrets. Of course, I wanted to go one step up, but eventually Southampton did not want to let me go, but you’re a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club.

"Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.”

Van Dijk has missed the start of the season due to injury and new Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino has said he will have to work to get back into the starting XI.
