Arteta has emerged as the shock candidate to replace his former manager at Emirates Stadium despite his lack of managerial experience.
The 36-year-old has been working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City for two seasons, playing an integral role in his support staff as City won the league with a new record of 100 points.
Arsenal are said to be keen to appoint their new manager before the World Cup starts and have seen other potential candidates fall by the wayside.
Former Barcelona manger Luis Enrique’s wage demands were reportedly excessive, Massimiliano Allegri said he wanted to stay at Juventus and Hoffenheim are determined not to lose Julian Nagelsmann.
But Guardiola has given his blessing for Arteta to leave City, and he is now expected to hold talks with the club he represented as a player between 2011 and 2016.
