Zlatan to leave before season’s end

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be set to leave Manchester United before the season ends, according to reports. The 36-year-old striker, who defied expectations by returning to United in the autumn, despite a potentially career-ending injury in May, could yet take an offer from an American or Chinese team, with seasons in both countries beginning in March.
Paper Round’s view: The crux of the issue presented in said reports is that Zlatan may not stay for a third season at Old Trafford. Zlatan’s return to United was only ever really expected to be his swansong. March may be a little early, but the writing has long been on the dressing room wall.

Arsenal look to tie-down Wilshere

After weeks of speculation, Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is said to be on the cusp of a new deal with his club. The 26-year-old will apparently be offered a lower basic wage but could see his salary bumped up by incentives.

Paper Round’s view: Currently reported to be worth around £120,000 a week to his club, it’s hard to see Wilshere bumped up to much more, given reported salaries of some of his team-mates. But Arsenal will be keen to hold on to established talent, especially if other players move on in January.

Beardsley takes leave as racism row investigated

Newcastle United’s under-23 coach Peter Beardsley, has taken a period of leave while allegations of racism and bullying made against him are investigated. Beardsley, who is said to be subject to multiple complaints, said via a solicitor he was aware that “inaccurate media reports had been made.”
Paper Round’s view: It’s a damning indictment that so many of Wednesday’s papers highlight issues of racism. Perhaps the FA have taken on board the criticisms levelled at them during recent months.

Everton owner Moshiri shares Lukaku theory

Everton part-owner Farha Moshiri has opened up on Romelu Lukaku’s departure from the club. According to Moshiri, who admitted he spent less effort trying to keep hold of newly-appointed Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley than the Belgium international, said a conversation with between the latter and his mother about voodoo caused Lukaku to walk away from a new contract at Everton.
Paper Round’s view:…because that’s the only possible explanation, Moshiri.
