The Czech veteran is set to retire this summer after a distinguished career in which he won four Premier Leagues, five FA Cups, three League Cups and a Champions League.
All of those trophies, save one FA Cup medal came during his 11-year spell at Stamford Bridge but after falling out of favour at the club he made the move to north London in 2015.
It had been reported that both Premier League clubs had hoped to recruit his services in a backroom role, but it appears that Chelsea have won the race, having been without a technical director since Michael Emenalo resigned in late 2017.
The final game of Cech's career, ironically, will be against Chelsea, whom Arsenal face in the Europa League final on May 29, and the 37-year-old says the Baku clash is the only thing he is concentrating on.
He said in a post on Twitter: “Despite the news today as I had already said to everybody before , I’ll make decision about my future after the last game . Now my sole focus is to win the EL with @Arsenal ”
Speaking ahead of the clash on Tuesday, Arsenal boss Unai Emery paid tribute to Cech.
"All is positive. I have only known him this year," he told reporters.
"His experience is vast in football, he is here because he has done [great] service. His commitment is large. I want to enjoy with him. I am a privileged coach to be with him. We are going to do all we can to win. I believe in him."
