Football news - Hazard: I won't leave Chelsea in January but Spain move would help Ballon d'Or cause

Belgian forward Eden Hazard has told Sky Sports News that he will not be leaving Chelsea in January but is keen on a move to Spain to help his Ballon d'Or hopes.

Hazard, 27, joined Chelsea over six years ago, in which time has helped them to win two Premier League titles.

However, he has consistently flirted with the idea of moving to European champions Real Madrid and recently gave an interview saying he was torn between whether or not to sign a new Chelsea contract.

The Belgian's deal at Stamford Bridge currently expires at the end of the 2019-2020 season but his comments sparked concern that he might move on sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Sky Sports at a Belgium press conference Hazard, who has scored eight goals already this season, made it clear that he would not be leaving in January although he did cast further doubt over his future.

He was asked whether he would have to move to Spain in order to win the Ballon d'Or to which Hazard responded "that's why I want to go, maybe."

Pressed on whether that would be in January Hazard replied "no."

Earlier in the press conference Hazard had demanded more improvement from himself despite his incredible start to the season.

"Yes, I'm the best player in the world at the moment." Hazard said laughing.

"But you can always improve. You can score more goals, more assists."
