Huddersfield have been dealt a major blow heading into the busy festive period with star midfielder Aaron Mooy ruled out until February after suffering a knee injury.
The Terriers’ survival hopes have been hampered by the news that Mooy will miss the next eight weeks after sustaining the injury in the 1-0 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend.
The Australia international visited a specialist on Tuesday after suffering a tear to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
Mooy was already set to be absent in the New Year, but he will now miss the 2019 Asian Cup, which runs from January 5 to February 1.
Over the course of the next month-and-a-half, Huddersfield have nine league fixtures as well as an FA Cup third round tie against Bristol City.
The 28-year-old is set to miss games against Newcastle, Southampton, Manchester United, Fulham, Burnley, Cardiff, Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea.
With two goals, Mooy is Huddersfield’s top scorer this season, and the Yorkshire club slipped back into the relegation zone after their late defeat at the weekend, two points adrift of safety.
