In his first interview since leaving Manchester United, he told BeIN Sports: "I want to coach. I belong to top-level football and [that] is where I am going to be.
"I am too young [to think about retiring], I am in football for a long, long time but I will be 56 in a couple of weeks and am really too young."
The Portuguese did not mention anything about his departure from the club, but hinted at some of the disgruntlement within his squad when he said: "In modern football there is a problem between the coach and the player.
"We are not in a time anymore where the coach, by himself, is powerful enough to cope and to have a relationship of education and sometimes confrontation with players who are not the best professionals."
It had been rumoured that he had fallen out with a number of players, including Paul Pogba.
Since Mourinho left United, interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has led the team to six straight wins.
