Manchester United have announced that they have agreed a new five-year contract with full-back Luke Shaw.
The contract will reportedly earn the 23-year-old at least £150,000-a-week, making him the highest-earning defender at the club and one of the world's best paid defenders.
The contract runs for five years with an option for a further year.
Shaw said: “Since I came to United, it’s been a whirlwind four years that have passed so quickly. I am very proud to sign my new contract and continue my stay at this great club. I want to thank everybody that has stood by me and shown me huge support - the management, my team-mates and the fans.
“I want to let everyone know that I will give everything I have to repay them and deliver success over the years to come. I’m still very young with a lot more to learn and I can’t wait to continue my progress under Jose Mourinho.”
Manager Jose Mourinho added: “Luke fully deserves this contract. He understood his development process, he has worked really hard at every level and he always believes in himself which is a great attribute to have.
”Luke is still young and is improving all the time and he must feel very proud of himself. I am delighted that we are keeping such a talented young English player with a bright future ahead of him.“
The news brings to an end a year of speculation about Shaw's future at the club, following a rumoured falling-out with Mourinho. The Portuguese coach frequently questioned Shaw's form last year and directly criticised the former Southampton youngster's fitness during the summer.
However, the full-back has started the season in fine form and has reportedly been rewarded with this huge new deal, which also helps United avoid the embarrassment of the player leaving for a cut-price over the next year or on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
Shaw signed for United in 2014 from Southampton for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £30 million - making him the most expensive teenager in world football at the time.
The England international broke his leg at the start of his second season at United, suffering a double fracture in the Champions League group game against PSV.
