Marcus Rashford scored a stoppage-time winner as Manchester United came from behind to claim a much-needed 2-1 away win over Bournemouth.
The result lifts United, who were without Romelu Lukaku through injury for their trip to the south coast, level on points with Bournemouth in sixth place in the Premier League table, but the hosts will rue missed opportunities.

The Cherries started strongly and got their rewards after just 11 minutes when Callum Wilson finished off a move that saw the United defence split open by Junior Stanislas, helped by poor defending from the visitors.
But Jose Mourinho’s side equalised against the run of play 10 minutes before the interval, with Anthony Martial finding the back of the net from 12 yards out following a good run and cut back by Alexis Sanchez.
United built on this and improved significantly in the second half, but failed to find the goal to put them ahead until stoppage time when Rashford controlled a Paul Pogba cross and smashed home from close range at the second attempt.
It was enough to give the away side all three points ahead of games against Juventus and Manchester City next week.

TALKING POINT - Why would David De Gea since a new contract at Man Utd?

This week saw speculation sparked over David De Gea’s future, with the Spanish goalkeeper reportedly stalling on signing a new contract at Manchester United.
It is understandable that he should wish to consider his options. This was yet another dismal defensive display from United, with De Gea exposed time and time again. It has been this way for years, so why would arguably the best goalkeeper put up with this for any longer?

MAN OF THE MATCH - Anthony Martial (Manchester United)

Remember when Martial’s future at Man Utd was in question? Now it seems that they can’t do without the French winger, who scored in his fourth straight Premier League appearance against Bournemouth. Nathan Ake and Ryan Fraser were standouts for the home side, but everything United did well came down the left side through Martial. They have become dependent on the 22-year-old these past few weeks.

PLAYER RATINGS

  • Bournemouth - Begovic 6, Francis 7, Cook 6, Ake 8, Smith 6, Lerma 7, Stanislas 7, Cook 6, Brooks 7, Fraser 8, Wilson 7..subs - Gosling 5, Ibe 5, Surman 5.
  • Manchester United - De Gea 7, Young 5, Lindelof 5, Smalling 5, Shaw 7, Fred 5, Matic 5, Pogba 7, Mata 6, Martial 8, Sanchez 7..subs - Herrera 7, Rashford 6, Lingard 6.

KEY MOMENTS

  • 11’ GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Manchester United: Bournemouth have the lead and it's Wilson! United's defence was caught cold, allowing Stanislas to beat the offside trap and play the low pass into the unmarked Wilson, who finished with aplomb into the back of the net.
  • 33’ Opportunity for an equaliser! Fred should do better with that. Martial managed to pick out the Brazilian, who was unmarked about 15 yards out, but his scuffed shot is blocked.
  • 35’ GOAL! Bournemouth 1-1 Manchester United: An equaliser for Man Utd! It's against the run of play, but Mourinho won't care. Sanchez picked out Martial, who was unmarked around the penalty spot and the in-form winger makes no mistake in sticking it away.
  • 52’ De Gea saves from Brooks! That could have been a second goal for Bournemouth. Fraser gets to the byline and cuts a pass back for the youngster, but Brooks' shot is saved.
  • 57’ Begovic gets VERY lucky! The pass from Mata over the top for Martial was exceptional, but with the Bournemouth goalkeeper well off his line the French winger can't lob it over him.
  • 58’ Huge save from Begovic! It was Shaw, of all people, who was clean through on the Bournemouth goal, but Begovic came off his line to narrow the angle and make the save.
  • 65’ How didn't that go in?! My goodness! Young first hits the woodwork with a wonderful freekick, then Rashford's attempt is blocked on the line and then Pogba's rebound is cleared off the line as well!
  • 92’ GOAL! Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United: It's surely a winner for the visitors! It was a wonderful cross from Pogba down the left side, Rashford controls it on his chest and then at the second attempt smashes the finish into the back of the net past Begovic! United have turned it around in stoppage time!
