Manchester United consider Dybala swap deal

Romelu Lukaku’s desire to move to Juventus could see Manchester United make a move for the Old Lady’s striker Paulo Dybala, according to The Sun. Lukaku, 25, has been linked with a move to the Italian champions for much of this season and they are apparently ready to let Dybala, also 25, go for an offer of £120 million, which could see Lukaku used as a makeweight in a deal.

Paper Round’s view: Lukaku has rediscovered his form in the last few weeks under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his turnaround has made any decision on his future less pressing, but he is not quite good enough to be the club’s main striker. Dybala is perhaps more suited to a counter-attacking game but is also simply a better all-round player. Swapping the two would be a benefit for United.

Rice set for England debut

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is on the verge of making his full debut for the England team. The 20-year-old has made three appearances for the Republic of Ireland in friendlies meaning he was eligible to change his allegiances but, now the paperwork is completed, the Telegraph claim he will be named by England boss Gareth Southgate in the squad for the games against the Czech Republic and Montenegro.

Paper Round’s view: Rice is one of the most promising youngsters in European football at the moment and will probably move to Manchester CIty in the summer. It is no surprise that Southgate has been trying to get him into the England set-up to add to the rest of the talented youngsters at his disposal, like Jadon Sancho. He now must prove his potential to the rest of the world.

Rodgers braced for Leicester exits

New Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged that he could lose some of his best players in the summer when the transfer window re-opens. Manchester United continue to be linked to Harry Maguire, City to Ben Chilwell, and there are rumours that James Maddison could attract a bid from Tottenham Hotspur. Rodgers is quoted in the Leicester Mercury as saying: “[Bids] may well come in. But it doesn’t worry me. I think all you can worry is that you make the team the very best they can be.”

Paper Round’s view: All three players would likely improve under the former Celtic boss’ guidance. At Liverpool he helped young players develop and has done the same in his time at Celtic. The problem for Rodgers is that although Leicester’s finances are strong, the future of the club is unclear, and he can't offer the same chances for trophies as the biggest Premier League sides.

City to profit from Sancho transfer

Reports suggest that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are facing off in a battle for England international Jadon Sancho. The Borussia Dortmund teenager could leave for Old Trafford just a couple of years after leaving Manchester City, and they would be entitled to 15% of any sale that Borussia Dortmund agree for the 18-year-old forward. They are also entitled to match any successful bid, according to The Sun.

Paper Round’s view: Given City’s potential Champions League ban, their struggles with Financial Fair Play and investigations into the transfer of Sancho to the club when he was just 14, a payment of £15 million might help them ease their troubles. There have been few suggestions that City would want to bring Sancho back - perhaps out of pride - but he does seem an exceptional talent.
