That was a no-brainer.

City a really laying down the gauntlet in the title race. It's a huge message to Liverpool, who face a very tricky game in hand at Manchester United in their next league game.

HT: Man City 4-0 Chelsea. A four-goal blitz inside the opening 25 minutes has put City well on course for a return to top spot. Sterling, Aguero (2) and Gundogan have done the damage in a game where Chelsea have actually shown some good signs going forward without reward.
Two minutes added.
Indeed, Chelsea's most recent away goal was N'Golo Kante's second half winner at Crystal Palace on 30 December.
City defend the set piece easily and Chelsea are still waiting for that first league away goal of 2019.
Chelsea have had plenty of the ball in the last seven minutes or so. Hazard tries to engineer an opening down the left and is bundled over by Bernardo Silva. Free kick for the visitors...
As it stands, City will return to top spot with a goal difference eight better than Liverpool.
Higuain thumps a 25-yard volley towards the top corner, but Ederson leaps into action and manages to tip it over the bar.
CONTRAST: Higuain's hands on hips say it all. Chelsea have been blown away in this first period.
PHOTO: City celebrate.
Plenty of stats doing the rounds on Twitter. They make great reading for City fans - not so much for Chelsea supporters!
ATTEMPTS: City 5-5 Chelsea.
ATTEMPTS ON TARGET: City 4-2 Chelsea.
Chelsea continue to attack and Pedro should reduce the arrears when he gets on the end of Higuain's touch on, but his shot is too close to Ederson.
This is some statement of intent from City.
- GoalIlkay GündoganManchester City
GOAL! Gundogan gets in on the act as he rifles a first-time effort into the far corner from just outside the area. City are rampant.
And another one... #Sergiostats
Chelsea have been woeful at the back so far. City are rampant right now.
- GoalSergio AgüeroManchester City
GOAL! Wow! It's three! Barkley makes a real error when he heads Luiz's attempted clearance back into the danger zone where Aguero spins brilliantly and sweeps home from close range.

Another day, another landmark for Sergio!
- GoalSergio AgüeroManchester City
GOAL! What a start for the home side. Aguero picks up the ball 25 yards out and fires an wonderful, curling strike into the top corner.
Hazard comes to life and Chelsea are almost back in business. The Belgian embarks on a dazzling, mazy run from deep and jinks beyond three before seeing his low shot from a narrow angle easily saved by Ederson.
VIDEO: Sterling slams in the opener.
STAT: Aguero has netted 22 goals in his 15 most recent Premier League starts at home, scoring in each of the last six. It should be 23... he doesn't usually miss those sort of chances!
It should be two. City carve Chelsea open once more. Bernardo Silva can't get his shot away but works his way to the left byline and cuts it across for Aguero, who somehow fails to convert at the far post.
HOME COMFORT: City boast the best home record in the PL this term. The Citizens have won 12 out of 13 encounters at the Etihad. They are bidding to become the first side to notch multiple goals in 15 straight top-flight home matches since Spurs did it in a run of 16 games in 1965.
That was horrible defending by Hazard. He completely went to sleep, allowing De Bruyne to play in Bernardo Silva on the right of the area with a quick free kick. The City man had all day to pick out a pass and he duly found Sterling arriving late from the left side.
- GoalRaheem SterlingManchester City
GOAL! Sterling arrives at the far post to hammer a rising shot into the net after Bernardo Silva had ghosted into space down the right and cut it back across goal.
Some promising early signs for Chelsea as Hazard and Higuain combine to threaten down the left. The latter eventually sees a shot blocked before just failing to get on the end of a scooped ball over the top that caught City's rearguard cold.
HEAD-TO-HEAD: City have been beaten on 25 occasions by Chelsea during the PL era - that's more than against any other opponent. The Londoners are also the only team to win more than two top-flight encounters (3) versus a side managed by Guardiola.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! City get us underway.
DID YOU KNOW? Higuain has netted 38 times in 37 league outings at clubs managed by Sarri.
Head-to-head: Man City eased to a 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield back in August - but were then beaten by the same scoreline when they visited Stamford Bridge in December. The sides lock horns this afternoon and then meet for a fourth time this campaign when they battle for the League Cup trophy at Wembley on February 24.
REPORT: Tottenham 3-1 Leicester.
Mauricio Pochettino's third-placed Spurs stay in the title hunt. They are five points off top spot having played the same number of games as current leaders Liverpool.
Former Chelsea striker, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on Sarri: "You need to give him the time, it's only six or seven months that he's been in the building, so you need to give him the time and you need to give him the trust."
Maurizio Sarri: "At the moment, in my opinion, Manchester City are the best team in Europe. They are an example for every club.
"We need to work. Guardiola is in the third season in the Premier League, Klopp in the fourth or fifth, but we need to work. I don't know another way. We need only to work and try to reduce the gap."
Guardiola: "At Chelsea, I understand what they want to do and they are doing it. Good organisation, offensive and defensive, they know what they want to do.
"It's a final for us. We have to play in that way. We have played one more game. But we cannot deny it. A few days ago we could be seven points behind."
Eden Hazard on his partnership with Gonzalo Higuain: "I've only played two games with Higuain and I know we can do something great together, not only with him but also with the other strikers, the other winger. Chelsea is not about Higuain and Hazard, it is about 25 players. But Higuain is a fantastic striker."
It's two changes for Chelsea with Antonio Rudiger replacing Andreas Christensen in defence and Pedro coming in for Willian.
City make three changes to the side that won at Everton in midweek. Oleksandr Zinchenko comes in for his fourth PL start of the campaign at left back, while Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling replace David Silva and Leroy Sane respectively.
