Real prepare £112m Hazard bid

Real Madrid continue their summer rebuilding after the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus. After Paris Saint-Germain made it clear that they will not be selling either Neymar or Kylian Mbappe, Real have turned their attention to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. They will bid £112m for the 27-year-old Belgian, and may have to up the bid to over £200m to get their man. They also expect to sign Thibaut Courtois for £35.5.

Paper Round’s view: If he had more than a year left on his contract then Chelsea would have got roughly double the fee for Courtois, so it is no surprise they are happy to play hardball over Hazard. Maurizio Sarri seems content to sell players at Chelsea in order to raise funds for a squad built to his own tastes. Without Hazard, though, they will need another playmaker to compensate.

Chelsea consider Hart transfer

In order to replace the departing Courtois, Chelsea may surprise and disappoint their fans. Sarri is reportedly interested in Joe Hart, the Manchester City goalkeeper. Due to having no part in Pep Guardiola’s plans, and having just a year left on his contract, he could be available for just £5m. The 31 year old also counts as a homegrown player, too.

Paper Round’s view: If Hart can rediscover his confidence and best form then £5m might prove to be a bargain. At 31 he should be entering his prime years as a goalkeeper but seems to have lost his way. A move to a big club might suit him, given his ego and self-belief. Having said that, a rumoured double move for Kasper Schmeichel and Petr Cech seems a much safer way to replace Courtois.

Real in shock link with Trippier

Real Madrid might not be finished with the Premier League after Courtois and Hazard. They are also being linked with Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier. Trippier would fetch at least £50m, though Spurs would resist any offer from the Spanish club. A move would be a surprise given they already have Dani Carvajal, and have just spent £50m on Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad.

Paper Round’s view: If Real are selling Carvajal, then it would make sense that the club want two right-backs to fight it out for his place. But Odriozola can play as a right-winger, and Trippier has displayed his abilities higher up the pitch as a right-wing back. Given the versatility of the two, it can’t be ruled out that Julen Lopetegui is looking to shake up the tactics after Ronaldo’s departure.

Everton make bid for Digne

Everton have made a bid of £22m for Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne. The French international is second choice at Barcelona, behind Jordi Alba, and he has attracted interest from both Bayern Munich and Juventus. The Spanish club do not want to sell, but the 25 year old is keen to leave after his lack of playing time cost him his place in France’s World Cup squad this summer.

Paper Round’s view: With Leighton Baines in his mid-thirties, and much of the squad at Goodison Park on the wrong side of 27, new Everton boss Marco Silva is attempting to bring down the average age of the squad. Digne has experience at the top level - he also played for Paris Saint-Germain - and would probably succeed in the Premier League. The only worry is if a bigger club comes in for him.
