Sheffield United claimed their first victory since the return of competitive football after the suspension, with a clinical 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane.
Sander Berge gave the home side the lead in the first half, drilling home a low shot after excellent work by Chris Basham down the right. Second half substitute Lys Mousset then added another after 69 minutes, tapping in from close range after a slick move involving Oli McBurnie, Enda Stevens and Ben Osborn. McBurnie ended the contest six minutes from time when he jabbed home Berge’s cross form close range.
Tottenham looked to have equalised straight after Berge’s opener, but Harry Kane’s strike was ruled out after a VAR review picked up an accidental handball from Lucas Moura as he stumbled through the Sheffield United defence.
Kane eventually found the net in the 90th minute, but it was too late for any hopes of a revival. Sheffield United now move up to seventh in the Premier League table, leapfrogging Tottenham who now drop down to ninth.

TALKING POINT

Where does Jose Mourinho go from here? His team dominated possession tonight but created precious little when they eventually reached the Sheffield United penalty area. Spurs were in contention for a Champions League place in February but have regressed badly, winning just one of their last six in the Premier League and sliding down the table. There is a lot of work for the Tottenham manager to do ahead of next season.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Oli McBurnie (Sheffield United). The home side ceded a lot of possession to Tottenham, safe in the knowledge that they had a reliable out ball to get their attack moving when the opportunities arose. McBurnie worked tirelessly for Sheffield United; his switch of play opened up the move which led to Mousset’s second and he rounded off the night with a deserved goal.

KEY MOMENTS

31’ - GOAL! Sheffield United 1-0 Tottenham (Berge). What a great goal! Lovely, patient play from Sheffield United as Basham overlaps and gets to the byline on the right. He cuts the ball back where Berge runs back on to it. He sets himself with one touch before swivelling and firing low shot into the far corner of the net.
33’ - DISALLOWED GOAL! You're always vulnerable after you've scored as they say, and Sheffield United almost cough up an equaliser. Lucas Moura stumbles through a few challenges and falls due to a foul. He accidentally hits the ball with his arm and it squirms out to Kane, who cuts inside Basham and calmly rolls it in. It's VAR reviewed though, and chalked off.
61’ - CLOSE! Baldock takes it up to the edge of the Spurs area. He finds Berge, whose low cross is palmed up into the air by Lloris. Osborn retrieves and finds McGoldrick, who lashes his shot into the side netting.
69’ - GOAL! Sheffield United 2-0 Tottenham (Mousset). This is another great goal. Excellent play from McBurnie as he switches it to Stevens. He then slides it into Osborn in the area, who gets it to the byline and squares it into the six-yard box for Mousset, who tucks it away. That was a lovely move.
84’ - GOAL! Sheffield United 3-0 Tottenham (McBurnie). Another one, and another beauty. Fantastic work from Berge on the right, jinking to the byline after smart work from Baldock. Berge fired a cross into the front post where McBurnie got across his man to jab the ball high into the net past Lloris!
90’ - GOAL! Sheffield United 3-1 Tottenham 1 (Kane). Too little too late, but a nice goal. Lamela chips the ball to an unmarked Son at the far post. He then squares it to Kane for a tap-in, and Spurs are on the board.
