FULL-TIME!

It's all over at the Amex and Brighton get just their second home win of the season, but what a big one it could be in the relegation picture. The Seagulls move six points clear of the drop zone. Newcastle's winless run has been extended to six matches having not registered a single shot on target tonight. It's an easy Brighton win.

Newcastle have been so bad this evening and have still not registered a shot on target yet. Brighton, meanwhile, can take great confidence from this result. They have looked excellent going forward and their goals were all great ones.

74'

Newcastle are finally starting to make some inroads into the Brighton half but ultimately their performance has been nothing short of tepid so far. There does not seem to be a clear strategy when they do come forward. Fraser has a hopeful shot on goal from 25-yards out but Sanchez can easily get down and gather it. It looked to be heading wide anyway.

71'

Brighton have another corner as they just keep coming forward. This one is played short. Lallana gets a cross in but Lascelles heads clear.

  • Neal Maupay

58'

Fulham and Newcastle meet on the final day at Craven Cottage. How big could that be! If this result remains the same Steve Bruce's men will be just two points off the drop zone ahead of the southwest London club.

56'

Brighton are still dictating the tempo as Newcastle attempt to push more numbers forward.

54'

How do Newcastle respond? Brighton have been dominant and now have a seemingly unassailable two goal lead. Steve Bruce surely needs to make some substitutions. They look bereft of ideas.

  • Danny Welbeck
GoalDanny WelbeckBrighton & Hove AlbionGOAL!! What a strike from Danny Welbeck!!! He picks the ball up on the left, cuts inside and curls the ball into the bottom right corner. 48'

OFF THE POST! Fraser cracks the woodwork! Almiron lays it off to him on the left and he unleashes a curled strike on goal first-time, but the Scotland international hits the outside of Sanchez's left post! That was so unlucky and easily Newcastle's best chance of the match.

THREE minutes of added time at the end of this first half but there could be a bit more added as the stretcher is bringing Hayden off just now. SUB! Hendrick is on for Hayden.

44'

The stretcher has come out and Hayden's involvement in this match is over. Hendrick is ready to come on. It was an accidental collision as Bissouma fell into him, but it looks a nasty one and Bissouma is clearly distressed by it.

42'

There will be another pause in play. Hayden is down holding his knee after a collision with Bissouma. It shortly comes after Almiron went down rather softly under a challenge from Moder. Hayden is still on the ground and may well be withdrawn from the game to add to Newcastle's injury woes.

38'

Trossard finds Lallana in the box. He finds Maupay who then shoots from point-blank range, but his effort is blocked by Clark and Newcastle clear. That looked destined to hit the back of the net!

36'

Joelinton ventures down the left flank and Newcastle are finally deep in the hosts' half. Fraser's cross comes off Bissouma and Newcastle have their first corner. Shelvey's corner is cleared away. Shelvey whips a ball back into the box which Hayden meets at the far post, but his header is woeful and it innocuously floats out for a goal-kick.

34'

Play has stopped for a moment with Dubravka receiving medical treatment. He looks like he will continue for now.

Martin Dubravka of Newcastle United fumbles the ball under pressure from Neal Maupay of Brighton & Hove Albion during the Premier League match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United
32'

Gross' cross finds Welbeck on the left flank. He whips the ball into the box but Newcastle clear their lines. Newcastle are sitting very deep. A Brighton goal is surely inbound.

31'

Brighton create another attack from the right flank. Gross' cross is missed by Maupay before referee Taylor blows for a foul from Welbeck on Lascelles.

30'

Welbeck's cross is blocked by Shelvey and collected by Dubravka. Brighton are getting further and further into Newcastle's box with every attack.

28'

Maupay tries to work the ball onto his left foot inside the Brighton box but three Newcastle defenders swarm him and clear the danger.

26'

Gross threads a pass through to Maupay but Hayden gets back in time to clear for a throw-in.

24'

Brighton are dominating possession but like so often this season they are struggling to really penetrate through the opposition backline. Newcastle are there for the taking at the moment but the hosts have not been able to capitalise as of yet.

22'

Lallana finds Trossard in the box in a tight space, but the Belgian's shot is blocked. The hosts are continuing to apply the pressure.

20'

Mdoer catches Manquillo who goes down to ground. The Spaniard is back up on his feet now, though, and looks OK to continue.

16'

Moder is causing more problems as he tries to get a cross away, but it ends up going out for a Newcastle goal-kick.

14'

Shelvey fires a long ball up to Joelinton but Veltman does well to intercept. Newcastle are resorting to very direct play already. Brighton will be pleased with how this is going.

12'

SHOT! Brighton counter. Trossard lays the ball off to Bissouma on the edge of the box, but his shot from the edge of the box is tame and Dubravka can comfortably claim it.

10'

Brighton snuff out a surging run through the middle by Shelvey. Newcastle have not caused Brighton even the slightest of problems yet.

8'

Gross' low cross from the right is cleared behind by Clark for the first corner of the evening. Gross launches an outswinger which Dunk attacks, but Dubravka claims it before referee Anthony Taylor blows for a foul on the Slovakian goalkeeper by Maupay.

6'

Brighton have started very confidently with Newcastle already showing leakiness at the back. The hosts are dominating possession and have twice come close to scoring.

4'

SAVE! Brighton counter and Welbeck crosses from the left using the outside of his right boot into the path of that man Moder again... but he fires his effort straight at Dubravka! He's hungry for a goal!

2'

CHANCE! A good start from Brighton. White surges forward and lays off to Maupay on the right flank. He floats a cross to the far post to Moder on his first Premier League start, but he blasts his first-time effort over the bar.

We are underway!

19:56

The teams are out onto the pitch at the Amex! Kick-off is just moments away!

19:49

Brighton striker Aaron Connolly has been disciplined by the Premier League club for breaching Covid-19 safety protocols, manager Graham Potter said.

British media reported the 21-year-old invited a woman into the house he had been staying in. "It's something we have dealt with internally, the club is dealing with it," Potter said.

"Aaron has made a mistake, we've dealt with that and we have to move on. "Our position is quite clear. The players know their responsibilities, they know what they should or shouldn't be doing."

Connolly missed Brighton's last two games due to a cracked rib.

19:39

Newcastle are in the house for what is the longest away trip a Premier League side can make this season. The visitors will be desperate to put an end to their five-game winless streak. Their last victory was against Southampton, beating Ralph Hasenhuttl's men 3-2 on February 6.

19:29

Paul Parker's prediction

Brighton have now got their first win since beating Liverpool. They are an excellent side to watch. You can't not enjoy watching everything they do. The only people who don't are Brighton fans because they're not winning games. For entertainment they're fantastic, but they never have an end product. If they go and win, it will make Brighton feel a bit more confident.

It was a good win against Southampton last weekend and they've got an opportunity against Newcastle. Everyone knows they're a far superior team to Newcastle. But if you're not a winning team you cannot categorise yourself as that, which is why they're on similar points to Newcastle. They're going to go in front against Newcastle and stay in front.

Prediction: Brighton 2-0 Newcastle

It is just the ONE change to the Brighton side that got a crucial 2-1 win at Southampton last Sunday. Jakub Moder comes in for Dan Burn. The 21-year-old Pole is making his full debut. Burn went off against the Saints last weekend with a hamstring issue.

19:04

It is TWO changes to the Newcastle side that drew 1-1 with Aston Villa on March 12.

Emil Krafth and Dwight Gayle drop out for Miguel Almiron and Javier Manquillo. Paraguay international Almiron had missed the last two games with a knee injury.
