FT: Chelsea 1-3 Man City. A first-half masterclass does the damage for City who provided a statement of intent for the second part of the season. Goals from Gundogan, Foden and KDB did the damage before Hudson-Odoi got a stoppage-time consolation. It was a shocker for Chelsea and Lampard will feel more heat after this one as his team continue their poor recent run.
- GoalCallum Hudson-OdoiChelsea
GOAL! No clean sheet for City as Hudson-Odoi tucks in a cross from the left to snare a consolation for the hosts.
Two minutes added.

- OffKevin De BruyneManchester City
- OnSergio AgüeroManchester City
CITY CHANGE: Aguero on for KDB.
Plenty of MOTM contenders for City today, but a certain KDB is this scribe's pick.
As it stands, City will move just four points behind leaders Liverpool having played a game less. Chelsea will be three points further back in eighth spot, but have played two games more than the Citizens and look devoid of confidence following a run of what looks like one win and four defeats in their last six league outings.
De Bruyne lines up a 25 yard free kick from the right but sees it deflect behind. No danger for Mendy.
Chelsea are still plugging away but City's defence have been superb. In fact, the whole team display from the visitors has been excellent.
- OffMateo KovacicChelsea
- OnKai HavertzChelsea
CHELSEA CHANGE: Havertz on for Kovacic.
Werner has hardly been in the game, but marauds down the left before being held up by Stones. He's not scored in 11 matches for Chelsea....
- OffIlkay GündoganManchester City
- OnFernandinhoManchester City
CITY CHANGE: Gundogan off, Fernandinho on.
- Yellow cardMateo KovacicChelsea
Kovacic booked. More frustration showing through for the home side.
Sterling and KDB surge forward on the break again. Sterling takes a pass in his stride and darts into the box, but is stopped by a third defender after threatening to go all the way.
Super goalkeeping from Mendy. He races off his line and smothers at the feet of the stretching De Bruyne after Sterling had charged down the right and centred a low ball towards the Belgian.
- OffN'Golo KantéChelsea
- OnBilly GilmourChelsea
CHELSEA CHANGE: Gilmour on for Kante.
- OffHakim ZiyechChelsea
- OnCallum Hudson-OdoiChelsea
CHELSEA CHANGE: Ziyech off, Hudson-Odoi on.
De Bruyne curves a few yards wide after another slick City move had carved the hosts open.
City are playing keep-ball, probing for the opening to strike once again. Chelsea look so frustrated out there.
Kovacic wriggles beyond several challenges but fires off target from 20 yards on the stretch. Steffen continues to have a quiet evening.
City could easily be out of sight by now.
That's awful defending from Chelsea. Rodri is left in acres of space to meet the resulting free kick from the right, but Mendy is alert to push the header over the bar.
- Yellow cardN'Golo KantéChelsea
Kante booked for nibbling away at Sterling before bringing him down. Kante will now miss the next league match.
STAT: Chelsea’s only defeat in 14 home league games came against Liverpool in September (W10, D3). It’s looking like a second in 15.
CLOSE! Mendy does well to parry and then gather KDB's rasping drive.
Not much to write home about in the first five of this half. How long before Lampard looks to the bench?
Can Chelsea mount some sort of response here and make a game of it? Or will City continue to run riot and increase the heat on Lampard?
- 2nd Half
KICK OFF! Chelsea get us back underway.
- End of 1st Half
HT: Chelsea 0-3 Man City.
- Yellow cardChristian PulisicChelsea
Two minutes have been added.
CLOSE! Gundogan flicks wide of the far post after skipping to the near post to meet Foden's cutback from the left.
Bleak reading for Super Frank.
Pulisic jinks beyond his man and charges at the City defence. He looks for a pass to the overlap on the left but overcooks it. Goal kick. That sums up Chelsea.
Almost four. Foden balloons a free header over from Bernardo Silva's cross from the right.
- GoalKevin De BruyneManchester City
GOAL! De Bruyne slams in the loose ball after Sterling had raced clear before dallying and firing against the post.
VIDEO: Gundogan leaves Chelsea in a spin with the opener.
At the other end, Gundogan fancies the brace but sees his latest attempt well blocked.
Pulisic exchanges passes to charge into the left side of the box, but turns down the shot and City do enough to get bodies in the way as the ball pin balls around the area.
Cancelo volleys over after chesting down Foden's hanging cross. It was a brilliant charge down the left from the City youngster.
VIDEO: Foden fires the second!
It's all City now. The visitors' tails are right up! Chelsea look dazed by the quick-fire double whammy.
What a huge blow for Chelsea. After a fine start, the hosts face a real uphill battle now.

- GoalIlkay GündoganManchester City
GOAL! Gundogan spins on to Foden's flick from Zinchenko's cross and fires low into the far corner.
DID YOU KNOW? Chelsea’s only goal in four league matches against established top-six opposition this season was scored by Tammy Abraham in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Boxing Day.
BIG MISS! Cancelo threads a delightful ball into the right side of the box for De Bruyne. The Belgian takes it on the run but slides his low shot wide of the far post with just the keeper to beat.
POSSESSION: Chelsea 66 per cent - City 34 per cent.
Chelsea continue to be the more proactive here. City keep getting caught inside their own half.
Kante wins the ball deep in City territory. Werner takes over and is clumsily challenged by Rodri as he looked to make amends. Nothing is given, but the referee did have a long look at it.
Chelsea have had the better of the early sparring but City's defence have held firm so far.
STAT: City are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions, winning seven and drawing three. However, 26 points is still their lowest tally after 14 matches for 10 years.
Ziyech slaps a left-foot strike at Mount's touch-off but sees his thunderbolt cannon off the wall and deflect to safety.
An early error of judgement from Steffen. He comes to deal with a back pass at the edge of his area and picks it up! Free kick to Chelsea in a dangerous position.
Plenty of talk abut the pressure on Lampard coming into this game. It seems a tad harsh, but a win here would be a great way to draw a line under recent results and get 2021 off to a promising start.
H2H: Manchester City have lost 26 Premier League games versus Chelsea, more than against any other side. They are bidding to avoid losing three consecutive Premier League away matches against the Londoners for the first time since a run of four from 2006 to 2009.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! Man City get us underway. Prior to kick off there was a minute's applause in memory of former Blues player/boss, Tommy Docherty, who passed away recently.
This is your five-minute warning. Sixth hosts eighth - Chelsea v City is coming right up!
SOMETHING’S GOT TO GIVE: Chelsea have failed to win their opening Premier League fixture in each of the past four calendar years, while City have lost three of their past four league matches in London, drawing the other.
As we continue to build up to this mouthwatering clash, why not take a moment to catch up on the latest gossip from the continent in today's Euro Papers video?
Ilkay Gundogan on today's showdown: "Two teams with two great players and ambitious managers playing against each other. The fact we lost our last game at Stamford Bridge should motivate us more. We have quality to do it and that’s what we want to achieve."
Cesar Azpilicueta on his hopes for 2021: "I would like to see the stadium full of fans. That would be a sign we are going back to normality. Unfortunately, since March it has been difficult for a lot of people. So many jobs are at risk so it is a moment to stay responsible and follow the rules. People are going through tough periods but we have to try and remain positive. Hopefully we can get over this being better and I am sure we will enjoy every second more."
Pep Guardiola: "If you think about what (can) happen in January, February - the two games (in hand), we can lose these two games and anything can happen. So, in the Premier League, every game is so tough and it is better to be calm. The real Premier League, the people I spoke to before I landed here, said everyone can lose to everyone. I didn't see this until now. Now is the first time when I see in the Premier League, one team is able to lose or win seven, and after draw, and after lose. The results are unpredictable."
Lampard: "I'm not stupid, I know that we need to get results. We want to get results. Do I change things? Sometimes, a little bit. I tweak things. I never think I've cracked it or that a result had nothing to do with me. You have to search, but you also have to stick to your principles. Sometimes the things that get lauded when you do well get criticised when you don't purely because of the result.”
There are three changes for Man City with the big news involving a Premier League debut for goalkeeper, Zack Steffen. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Phil Foden also come in. Sergio Aguero is on the bench along with Benjamin Mendy, who has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Chelsea make five changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Aston Villa. Timo Werner is back in the attack while there is a welcome return from injury for Hakim Ziyech. Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma come into the defence with Mateo Kovacic in midfield.
Goals, goals, goals!
