- OffJamie VardyLeicester City
- OnKelechi IheanachoLeicester City
Leicester sub: Vardy hobbles off and is replaced by Iheanacho - that must be a concern for Rodgers.
There will be FIVE minutes of added time to play!
Perez is released through on goal but gets too much purchase on his shot as it flies over the bar. It wouldn't have counted as he was in an offside position. That spares his blushes as a simple pass to Vardy was the much more sensible option.
You have to respect Leicester for their determination to grab the second goal and finally put this game to bed. Vardy keeps it alive on the right flank, but can't pick out Barnes in the middle. Ndidi then shoots well over from distance.
- OffIbrahima DialloSouthampton
- OnYan ValerySouthampton
Saints sub: Yan Valery replaces Diallo.
Chance for Vardy! The Leicester hitman races into space, but McCarthy is once again equal to his shot.
Barnes is still full of energy as he races down the right and chips a ball into the path of Vardy. But Bednarek reads the danger and makes the intervention.
This game remains finely poised as we approach the final five minutes. The next goal is huge!
Long wins a header and the ball is cut back to Ward-Prowse. He should do better but he's under pressure and fires well wide.

- OnAyoze PérezLeicester City
Leicester sub: The goalscorer Maddison makes way for Ayoze Perez.
Off the line! Bednarek keeps Southampton in the game with a brilliant act of defending, getting back to clear Barnes' shot off the line from Albrighton's cross!
Off the crossbar! Southampton aren't out of this one yet! Armstrong sees his venomous effort from 25 yards crash off the woodwork. Long is manhandled by Evans as he tries to get on the end of the rebound, and that would have been a penalty only for the offside flag to go up!
- OffChe AdamsSouthampton
- OnShane LongSouthampton
Saints sub: Shane Long comes on for Adams.
Southampton's attacking threat has faded now and it's Leicester who are asking all of the questions now, as Vardy gets in behind the visitors' defence. Bertrand applies the pressure though and McCarthy's positioning is good as he gathers.
Over! Barnes picks out Vardy with a precise cross but the Leicester talisman, on this occasion, gets his header all wrong and can't test McCarthy.
An audacious effort from Vardy, who tries to lob the goalkeeper from a tight angle. But it comes off his shin and goes well wide.
Leicester have the chance to open the Southampton defence but Barnes makes life awkward for Vardy with a poor pass and the visitors get enough men back to deal with the danger.
That switch in personnel prompts a tactical change for Saints as N'Lundulu goes up top alongside Adams. Walcott moves to the right flank.
- OffWill SmallboneSouthampton
- OnDan N'LunduluSouthampton
Smallbone is unable to continue owing to the knee injury suffered a few minutes ago, so he's replaced by Dan N'Lundulu.
- Yellow cardRyan BertrandSouthampton
There's a coming together between Bertrand and Albrighton over on the far touchside. The ball goes out for a Leicester throw-in and Bertrand stops Albrighton taking the throw-in by throwing his arms out, receiving a yellow card for his actions.
Smallbone is back to his feet and after some treatment, is back on the pitch. The game resumes.
Smallbone is hurt after appearing to hurt his knee following a challenge on Castagne. It looked innocuous enough but the Saints midfielder looks very uncomfortable.
- OffWesley FofanaLeicester City
- OnCaglar SöyüncüLeicester City
Castagne is down after a collision with Ward-Prowse, but it's Fofana who is being replaced by Caglar Soyuncu as the first change of the game is made.
Bertrand runs on to a lovely diagonal ball over the top. Adams is free in the middle but the Southampton full-back opts to shoot. He doesn't connect properly with his first-time effort and it's a simple stop for Schmeichel.
Diallo has already been booked and needs to be careful. He pulls back Maddison, and you've seen players shown a yellow card for less. Leicester players are immediately over to Stuart Attwell, but the referee ignores their pleas on this occasion.
Chance! Southampton start the second half immediately on the front foot as they break rapidly through the middle of the ball. Armstrong spreads it to Smallbone, whose curling effort is parried by Schmeichel and Walcott can't sort his feet to turn in the rebound.
Kick-off! Leicester get us underway in the second half. There were no changes in personnel from either side at the break.
- End of 1st Half
HT: Leicester lead at the break thanks to James Maddison's 37th-minute strike.

Great chance for Southampton! Bertrand times his run perfectly to get in behind the Leicester defence. But his shot is straight at Schmeichel, and it's a let off for the hosts who were carved wide open there.
Credit to Maddison for his behaviour as well as he told his Leicester team mates to back off before celebrating alone.
- GoalJames MaddisonLeicester City
GOAL! Leicester 1-0 Southampton (James Maddison): Stephens gets too close to Maddison, who turns the Southampton defender easily as he drives into the penalty area and fires past McCarthy at his near post with a vicious shot from a tight angle. Leicester are ahead!
Maddison catches Diallo with a clothes-line and is fortunate not to go into the referee's book!
Maddison spends too long on the ball inside his own half and is dispossessed by Diallo. The referee gets this decision wrong as he signals for a Leicester free-kick.
Southampton win the ball back in midfield, and Schmeichel is alert to clear a ball over the top that was searching for Adams.
A half chance for Leicester as Maddison opens up the space for a shot from distance but gets his angles all wrong.
Walcott and Adams' link-up play has been excellent and Leicester defender Evans has to be alert to break up another Saints attack.
There are a number of English players on show tonight and it's no surprise that Gareth Southgate is in attendance at the King Power.
Shot! Walcott flicks a smart pass into the feet of Adams, who opts to shoot from a tight angle and draws the save from Schmeichel at his near post. Walcott had made a run to the far post and perhaps a cross would have been the better choice.
Castagne goes down with a knock but Southampton play on until Justin steals it from Walker-Peters. The Leicester defender will be fine to continue.
Save! Vardy lets Albrighton's low cross run through his legs and Barnes benefits, shooting first time and drawing a smart save from McCarthy.
And it's Tielemans who reacts quickest to clear from the resultant corner.
Adams is released on the right flank, he carves in and runs towards goal. Tielemans is breathing heavily down his neck and makes an impressive recovery, blocking his cross.
- Yellow cardWesley FofanaLeicester City
Yellow card! Walcott buys a foul from Fofana, who is booked for his efforts.
A moment of miscommunication between Vardy and Barnes sees a Leicester attack collapse.
Leicester try to play out from the back but Southampton's high press is making life difficult, as the hosts surrender possession once.
McCarthy bravely comes through a crowd of players to punch Maddison's delivery clear.
Southampton have lost just once away from home this season, and that was on the opening day at Crystal Palace. But they have a free-kick to defend now as Leicester bring the big guys up from the back to contest the delivery.
Walcott breaks as Southampton win their first corner of the match. Ward-Prowse delivers to the near post but Justin heads clear. The visitors will be happy with the start they have made.
A first touch of the ball for the in-form Barnes, who drives down the left flank. But Saints quickly surround him and successfully win the ball back.
Southampton with most of the early possession as Leicester sit deep with almost everyone behind the ball.
An early touch for Saints goalkeeper McCarthy as he races off his line to head clear a ball over the top searching for the run of Vardy.
Kick-off! The players, staff and officials take the knee before Southampton get us underway at the King Power!
FIVE minutes until kick-off! It's Leicester versus Southampton in the Premier League, it's LIVE and it's NEXT!
TEN minutes until kick-off at the King Power Stadium! Are Leicester title genuine contenders? If so, they badly need to improve their home form. A result tonight is imperative.
Chelsea move up to seventh with a win in the London derby.
Pre-match stat: Southampton are unbeaten in their last four away top-flight matches against Leicester (W2 D2), winning their last two at the King Power Stadium.
Saints recorded a fantastic victory over Liverpool in their last Premier League showing. Danny Ings is absent this evening, but Southampton have lost just one of the five games he has missed so far this campaign.
Leicester will move into second with victory, but their home form this season hasn't been great. In fact, the Foxes have won 12 more points on their travels than at the King Power. They haven't been in league action since a 2-1 triumph at Newcastle at the beginning of the month.
Did you know? Leicester have lost their last two home Premier League matches against Southampton, one more than they did in their first 12 home games against Saints in the competition (W7 D4).
Hasenhuttl on Leicester: "Since they have become champions, this club was definitely developing and took advantage of this famous year they had. They have signed very good players and a very good manager, who is driven also by making this team better every day and this makes them strong. It is always tactically a very interesting game I think."
Rodgers on Southampton: "They’re very well organised. They want to play on the front foot and defend forward. It doesn’t surprise me. I’ve said before about the quality of the players they have."
Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl makes THREE changes to the side which defeated Liverpool last time out. Danny Ings misses out having tested positive for coronavirus and is replaced by Che Adams. Alex McCarthy comes in for Fraser Forster in goal and Will Smallbone makes his second league start of the campaign.
Rodgers makes TWO changes to the Leicester side that thrashed Stoke 4-0 in the FA Cup third round last week, with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison returning to the folding. They replace Dennis Praet, who has suffered a long-term injury, and Ayoze Perez, who drops to the bench. Kasper Schmeichel makes his 400th appearance for Leicester.
Leicester XI: Schmeichel, Justin, Castagne, Evans, Fofana, Ndidi, Tielemans, Albrighton, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy.. subs: Ward, Soyuncu, Iheanacho, Perez, Amartey, Under, Ricardo, Mendy, Thomas. /// Southampton XI: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Bertrand, Stephens, Bednarek, Diallo, Smallbone, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Walcott, Adams.. subs: Forster, Long, Valery, Vokins, N'Lundulu, Ferry, Tchaptchet, Watts, Chauke.
