Full-time: Manchester City move to the top of the Premier League with this victory over Aston Villa in what was a hugely entertaining match.
We're into the first of FOUR minutes of added time.
- Goal by penaltyIlkay GündoganManchester City
GOAL! Manchester City 2-0 Aston Villa (Ilkay Gundogan, pen): No mistake from Gundogan as he seals the points with a coolly-taken penalty.
Penalty to Man City! Jesus's header strikes the arm of Cash and the referee points to the spot.
Cancelo forces Martinez into a fine fingertip save as City search for a second.
- Yellow cardNeil TaylorAston Villa
Yellow card! Villa's frustrations getting the better of them as Taylor goes into the book for a foul on Silva.
Will that prove to be the winner? As it stands, City are going top of the Premier League!
Dean Smith was sent off from the touchline for something he said to referee Jon Moss as City celebrated.
- GoalBernardo SilvaManchester City
GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 Aston Villa (Bernardo Silva): There's the opener! It takes a moment of magic from Bernardo Silva to break Villa's resilience. He cuts inside and with his left foot he curls an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Villa are appealing for offside - but this is going to count.
Dear me, this is relentless! Grealish picks out McGinn with an excellent piece of skill but he completely misses his kick. That was a moment after Dias made a vital block to deny Ramsey.
- OffMatt TargettAston Villa
- OnNeil TaylorAston Villa
Villa sub: Neil Taylor comes for on Targett, who has been excellent but seems to have picked up a knock.
- OffRaheem SterlingManchester City
- OnRiyad MahrezManchester City
City sub: Riyad Mahrez comes on for Sterling.
Another lull in the game, but you have to feel there is yet more drama to come in this one.
City chances! It just won't go in! Gundogan takes up a great position but decides to place his shot rather than go for power, and Mings blocks the shot. Martinez drops the ball from the resultant corner, Gundogan can't quite sort his feet and Villa somehow scramble it clear!
Villa chance! Watkins twists and turns before finally getting his cross away. Traore's shot is blocked - Villa's appeals for a handball go ignored - before Ederson is forced into a save.
The City wall does its job to deny Luiz from the resultant free-kick as another opportunity passes for Villa.
The game is really stretched now, and here come Villa on the counter-attack. Barkley takes far too long to release the ball, though, as City get men back. McGinn rescues the situation, throwing himself to the ground and winning a free-kick in a dangerous position.
Gundogan fires wide! It's another wonderful chance for City, but again it goes begging! Villa make a mess of clearing Foden's cross, it falls to the German, who is unbalanced and falls as he shoots wide.
Jesus is immediately involved. Zinchenko rolls a lovely ball through to Foden, who cuts it back to the Brazilian, but he's immediately crowded out.
- OffKevin De BruyneManchester City
- OnGabriel JesusManchester City
City sub: Yep, De Bruyne is the man to make way for Jesus. Can the Brazilian make a difference?
It has been an entertaining affair, but now there's a lull in the game. De Bruyne may be coming off, which would be a surprise.
City hit the crossbar! That's the closest we've come! De Bruyne's picks out Cancelo with a beautiful pass with the outside of the boot on the right side of the penalty area, the City wingback checks inside and clips the top of the crossbar with his shot.
Save! That would have been a goal of the season contender from Traore had it gone in! The Villa forward's first touch is outrageous as he leaves De Bruyne for dead on the flank. He races through the centre but his shot lets him down and Ederson makes a comfortable stop.
Over! Gundogan rolls a pass to Foden, who holds the ball up and lays it back to the German. He tries the first-time shot but can't keep his effort down.
Nice build-up again from City as Sterling stands up a cross to the far post. Foden keeps it alive with a header, Traore makes a mess of his clearance but Villa survive.
There were no changes in personnel at half-time, but Jesus is warming up and will likely be introduced sooner rather than later should City fail to make a breakthrough.
Kick-off! Villa get things moving in the second half.
- End of 1st Half
Half-time: The referee calls time on a really entertaining first-half, but it remains goalless at the Etihad.
City break from Villa's corner and a pass down the right flank releases De Bruyne. He picks out Foden with an eye-of-the-needle pass on the left side of the penalty area, but his shot is blocked by Cash, who has been excellent defensively for Villa.
Villa are proving a threat on the counter-attack and win a corner as Barkley's side-footed curler is deflected behind.
Villa - currently set up with 10 men behind the ball - are proving a tough nut to crack. City remain patient as they build another attack. A deep cross is delivered to Foden at the top of the box but he can't generate enough power in his header to really test Martinez.
De Bruyne's corner delivery causes chaos in the Villa penalty box, as Martinez fails to deal with it. But Jon Moss blows for a John Stones foul on the Villa goalkeeper to give the visitors some respite.
Grealish has been quiet so far - by his standards - but he bursts into the box and feeds Barkley, who fails to test Ederson with a weak shot.
Guardiola is furious Mings escapes a yellow card, remonstrating with the officials about the decision, while Smith in the opposite dugout is unhappy his player even has the attention of the referee. The two managers have an argument before sharing a laugh about it.
Another let off for Villa as Foden's lovely delivery across the face of goal evades a blue shirt.
City are really piling on the pressure here. Again they focus their attack down the left channel where Foden is picking up acres of space. He cuts it back to Rodri, whose shot takes an unfortunate deflection off Sterling and Villa have a goal-kick.
City work their corner short, with Cancelo eventually slipping it through to Sterling, but he's adjudged to be in an offside position.
Important block! City are having plenty of joy down their flank left as Foden feeds Cancelo on the overlap. He tees up De Bruyne for a shot but the Belgian's effort is charged down by Mings.
- OffKyle WalkerManchester City
- OnOleksandr ZinchenkoManchester City
Man City sub: Walker fails to recover from the knock he suffered earlier and he's replaced by Zinchenko.
Traore shoots wide from a difficult angle when a cut-back was the much better option. Meanwhile, it looks like Walker's game is up.
Luiz plays a one-two with Grealish but then sees his cross blocked by Dias, who may inadvertently touch the ball with his hand on the slide. Villa's appeals for a spot-kick are ignored, however.
De Bruyne flicks on Cancelo's diagonal and Sterling picks the ball up on the right flank. You'd fancy him to beat Targett for pace but the Villa full-back stays with him and blocks his attempted cross.
Walker insists he wants to stay on, and he's going to continue for now.
Walker still isn't comfortable after picking up a knock a few minutes ago. He goes off to have some treatment on the sideline now, allowing everyone else to grab a quick drink.
Cancelo is proving such a threat down the left flank. With Traore having a nap, the City wing-back runs on to Foden's pass, but his teasing cross fails to pick out anyone in the middle.
Zinchenko is warming up just in case Walker can't continue.
Walker gets pulled to the ground by Grealish, falling awkwardly, and now he looks in some discomfort.
Douglas Luis releases the pressure on Villa for a moment, drawing a foul inside his own half to allow the visitors a chance to catch a breather.
This is really entertaining football. City come forward now through Cancelo, who drives to the by-line after drifting past Cash. He cuts it back to Foden whose placed shot is blocked.
Oh my, what a chance for Villa! The visitors open City up on the counter-attack, and suddenly there's a three-vs-two situation as Barkley drives into space. Grealish is wide open on the right side of the penalty area but Barkley doesn't get his pass right and Cancelo intercepts.
De Bruyne fizzes a cross to Foden who has taken up a position on the left flank. With a drop of the shoulder he carves into the Villa penalty area but the visitors do well to close him down at the expense of a corner.
It has been end-to-end so far, with both sides going for the jugular.
Traore leaves Cancelo in his wake as Villa threaten down the right. He doesn't release the ball quickly enough, though, running in a crowd of blue shirts and inevitably losing possession.
How have City not scored? The corner is sent deep and Rodri heads it into the path of Bernardo, who is free at the near post. His shot from point-bank range is saved by Martinez and Villa somehow deny Stones scoring from the rebound, with Cash throwing himself to ground to block his effort!
Grealish gives the ball to Bernardo, who wins the foul from Targett on the right flank. De Bruyne whips it into the middle and it's headed behind by Tagrett, as City win their first corner of the match.
City have conceded just one goal while Stones and Dias have been playing at centre-back together. That's an extraordinary record, isn't it?
Kick-off! Manchester City get us underway!
FIVE minutes until kick-off! It's Manchester City versus Aston Villa at The Etihad Stadium in the Premier League - will Guardiola's side move top of the league or have Villa another surprise up their sleeve?
Pre-match stat: Man City have won their last five Premier League games, shipping just one goal in the process. It's the longest winning sequence by a team so far in the competition this season.
It seems like an awful long time ago now, doesn't it? It will be interesting to see just how match-sharp these Villa players will be after such a long layoff.
Just when you think this season couldn't get any stranger, John Stones then goes on and scores a brace as City thrashed Palace.
Did you know? Since a 3-2 Premier League victory at Villa Park in September 2013, Aston Villa are winless in their last nine meetings with Man City in all competitions (D1 L8).
Smith on City: "We’ll go to the game and play as we have been playing. We’re looking forward to it. They’re a very good team – we know that, and they’re playing at the top of their game at the moment. I believe that we’re a different proposition to what we were last season and it’s down to ourselves to go and prove that. We’ve had a small build-up to this game because of the Coronavirus outbreak at the football club, but it’s a chance to go and test ourselves again."
Guardiola on Villa: "In this league you can win five games in a row and then lose three in a row. The most important thing is Aston Villa. They bought Watkins. Their holding midfielders are fantastic, Barkley, they provide a lot of quality. They provide a lot of quality in the box with Grealish and El Ghazi. They are not suffering at the bottom of the league, they will be in the Premier League again."
Dean Smith makes just one change from the Villa side defeated at Old Trafford 19 days ago, with the fit again Barkley replacing Anwar El Ghazi.
THREE changes from the Man City side that hammered Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Phil Foden, Joao Cancelo and Rodi coming in for Gabriel Jesus, Fernandinho and Oleksandr Zinchenko, all of whom drop to the bench.
