FULL-TIME: Newcastle 2-2 Spurs
Credit where credit's due. Steve Bruce has deservedly received a lot of stick from Newcastle fans, but he set the team up positively today and thought outside of the box with his team selection. They created the wealth of opportunities and weirdly, they might be slightly disappointed with a draw, for which they only have their poor finishing to blame. Spurs defended poorly and Vinicius and Son having quiet performances limited their efficacy in attack, but could Mourinho have done more? Probably.
CHANCE!! Lamela struggles to control Reguilon's cross towards the far post and ends up hitting it into the side netting. Should've tried a rabona!
It seems not! Bale's free-kick goes well over and into the solar system.
- OffGiovani Lo CelsoTottenham Hotspur
- OnGareth BaleTottenham Hotspur
Gareth Bale is on and his first touch will be to take a free-kick. Can he make an instant impact?
- Yellow cardMiguel AlmirónNewcastle United
Amidst all the drama of the goal, Almiron gets a yellow card. Not sure why though.
- GoalJoe WillockNewcastle United
GOAL!!! What a moment for Newcastle!! Almiron's header is blocked but the substitute Willock is there to smash in the rebound! We're all square.
OFF THE POST!!! Lamela plays in Kane on the break and he whacks the outside of the post with a thunderous effort! So close to getting that hattrick.
- OffJacob MurphyNewcastle United
- OnJavier ManquilloNewcastle United
Another Newcastle change. This time it's Javier Manquillo on for Murphy, who's had a bit of cramp in recent minutes.
- OffEmil KrafthNewcastle United
- OnJoe WillockNewcastle United
Attacking change for Newcastle. Joe Willock is on for Krafth, who's been shambolic today. Suspect that means they're reverting to a back four.
CLOSE!! Ndombele slides the ball through to Kane and there's no one near him but he can't get the ball out of his feet and Dubravka makes a crucial stop to claim it.
- Yellow cardJonjo ShelveyNewcastle United
Shelvey gets a yellow card for fouling Lamela and Kane his the resulting free-kick into the wall for the second time today.
- OffDwight GayleNewcastle United
- OnAllan Saint-MaximinNewcastle United
Gayle's off for Allan Saint-Maximin. Wasted opportunity for him to cement a spot in the starting line-up.
CHANCE!! Joelinton wastes probably the best chance of the game! That's an awful miss! He brought down Krafth's cross beautifully then sent a weak shot far wide despite being unmarked.
OFF THE LINE!! Lo Celso's corner is punched out by Dubravka but only as far as Tanganga whose powerful header is cleared off the line by Almiron! Newcastle living dangerously now.
- Yellow cardPaul DummettNewcastle United
Lamela's first act is to win a free-kick, getting dragged by Dummett, who ends up in the referee's book as a result.
- OffLucas MouraTottenham Hotspur
- OnErik LamelaTottenham Hotspur
Erik Lamela is on for Moura to energise the Spurs attack who have been limited to just four shots on goal and none since Kane's second goal.
- Yellow cardJaphet TangangaTottenham Hotspur
Tanganga brings down Ritchie in midfield and picks up a yellow for doing so.
Corner lands in the box uncomfortably for Spurs, Gayle finds an inch of space and hacks a shot in search of the bottom left corner. Joelinton gets a late touch on it to send it marginally wide but he's ruled offside anyway.
It's been a very subdued 10 minutes, so probably a good time for Newcastle to make a change. Corner delayed bizarrely by Lloris needing to change his left boot!
Ritchie is down in pain. He'll try to run it off but might have to come off soon otherwise.
CHANCE!! Brilliant start to the second half for Newcastle!
First Almiron cuts inside and curls a shot on target then Murphy causes Reguilon all kinds of problems before having a shot blocked by Rodon. It eventually falls to Longstaff, who skies his effort.
- OffCarlos ViníciusTottenham Hotspur
- OnHeung-Min SonTottenham Hotspur
Vinicius had a very quiet, ineffective first half so he's unsurprisingly substituted off at the halfway point for Heung-Min Son.
- 2nd Half
Back now with the second half! Hopefully there's even more goals to come...
Kane pulls the trigger for his second goal of the day.
Hojbjerg brings the ball past Almiron.
- End of 1st Half
HALF-TIME: Newcastle 1-2 Spurs
Spurs have been sloppy but the elite finishing of Kane has unsurprisingly proved to be the difference. Newcastle, to their credit, have had dominant spells and played much better than a team in as bad form as they are. But at the end of the day, goals win games and Gayle in particular has to do a lot more to justify his selection.
Shelvey has a free-kick from just outside the box. No one gets on the end of it but Newcastle recycle it and Longstaff eventually shoots the ball well wide with the outside of his right foot. Probably should've trusted his left!
Newcastle reacting well to going a goal down. Dummett overhits a pass down the left but Gayle somehow keeps it in. His first-time cross is too high though and Lloris catches it comfortably.
Early ball in from Murphy very nearly finds Gayle, but a sliding interception from Rodon sends it out for a corner instead. He seems to have slightly injured himself in the process too.
Just over 5 minutes ago it was euphoria for the Toon Army, but now it's back to the pain and disappointment from before.
- GoalHarry KaneTottenham Hotspur
GOAL!!! It's raining goals! Ndombele finds Kane in space in the right side of the box and he drills a finish into the bottom left with his second touch after controlling the ball with his first.
- GoalHarry KaneTottenham Hotspur
GOAL!!! Newcastle's lead is extinguished just like that! Krafth tries guiding the ball to safety instead of clearing it, allowing Kane to bundle the ball into the goal and equalise.
- GoalJoelintonNewcastle United
GOAL!!! Joelinton bags only his second Premier League goal of the season to give Newcastle the lead! Their pressing high up the pitch pays off as Tanganga makes an error and Longstaff tees up Joelinton for a rare goal.
Spurs started well, but Newcastle have rallied back brilliantly over the past 10-15 minutes, using their wing-backs to good effect.
OFFSIDE! Vinicius has the ball in the back of the net after being thread through by Kane, but he's rightly flagged for being offside.
SAVED!! Extraordinary keeping from Lloris! Shelvey dinks the ball over to Gayle, who fails to score with two bites of the apple! First Lloris saves his header then somehow stops his low shot straight afterwards. Gayle really should've scored though.
Murphy swings in a tasty cross from the right. Gayle's outjumped by two defenders but manages to win a corner for Newcastle.
Great initiative shown by Krafth. Beats two players and has his shot deflected for a corner in a rare venture forward.
Goes without saying really but Newcastle are clearly low on confidence. Looking quite panicky in posession.
SAVED! Great run from Kane down the left, beating Krafth for pace. His shot is then pushed out for a corner by Dubravka at the near post.
Almiron clips Moura and Spurs win another free-kick in a dangerous area. This one's more central though. Kane proceeds to fire it straight into the wall.
Free-kick for Moura on the left flank after he was pushed over by Krafth. It's a dangerous ball in that somehow evades everyone and ends up going out for a goal kick.
CHANCE!! Positive signs early on for Newcastle. Sanchez's header hits Joelinton in the chest, he creates space for a shot and shoots straight at Lloris. Was a good opening though!

KICK OFF: Spurs - in their yellow away kit - get us underway.
Both Steve Bruce and Jose Mourinho have come under a lot of criticism in their current jobs, but surely none of that has been funnier than dubbing this match 'El Jurassico' - the battle of the dinosaurs!
It reminds me of Mourinho accusing West Ham of playing "19th century football" during his Chelsea days.
Lots of controversial omissions from the Newcastle matchday squad, let alone the starting XI!
SPURS TEAM NEWS
Tottenham are unchanged from their 2-0 away win against Aston Villa before the international break.
Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane continue as strike partners after netting in that game, while Lucas Moura will again play in front of a midfield trio of Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele.
Davison Sanchez makes his 100th Premier League appearance alongside Joe Rodon at centre back, Sergio Reguilon is predictably at left-back and Japhet Tanganga - fresh from England Under-21s' European failures - is at right-back.
17 year-old striker Dane Scarlett is on the bench once more and Spurs fans will be pleased to see Heung-Min Son return from injury to feature on the bench with him.
NEWCASTLE TEAM NEWS
Their under-fire manager Steve Bruce makes five changes in search of a winning formula.
Jacob Murphy and Sean Longstaff come in for Joe Willock and Isaac Hayden, while Dwight Gayle is tasked with leading the line after - according to some reports - putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract.
Defensively, Emil Krafth replaces Javier Manquillo and Matt Ritchie is in for Ciaran Clark.
It looks to be either a back five with Ritchie and Murphy the wing backs, or a back four with Ritchie and Krafth at full-back in a 4-2-3-1.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text coverage of the Premier League match between Newcastle and Spurs from St James' Park!
A 3-0 loss to fellow relegation candidates Brighton before the international break brought Newcastle even closer to the danger zone in 17th place and just two points above Fulham. Meanwhile, a north London derby loss to Arsenal and a humiliating Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb both ruined what seemed to be an upturn in form for Spurs, who find themselves in seventh.
We will be bringing you all the build-up, highlights and talking points from the match tonight, so stay tuned ahead of kick-off at 14:05.
