- End of 2nd Half
FT: Southampton 1-1 Leicester City. The 10-men Saints move 10 points clear of the drop zone after playing with one man less for most of the contest.
- OffChé AdamsSouthampton
- OnDan N'LunduluSouthampton
SAINTS CHANGE: N'Lundulu on for Adams.
Three minutes added.
CLOSE! Ndidi rifles wide from Vardy's clever lay off.
Hasenhuttl is kicking every ball down there on the touchline. His team are getting so close to a very unlikley point!
This would be a magnificent point for Southampton but they've still got a fair bit of defending to do right at the death here.
SAVE! Vardy takes a pass on the left side of the Saints area. He cuts inside his man but sees his low shot brilliantly blocked by the boot of McCarthy.
Leicester are camped in the Southampton half but that clock is ticking down. Vardy attacks a cross to the far post but Walker-Peters is there to head clear under real pressure.
Was Leicester’s equaliser inevitable? Southampton have dropped an unrivalled 21 points from winning positions this term. It could well be more tonight.
- OffTakumi MinaminoSouthampton
- OnIbrahima DialloSouthampton
SAINTS CHANGE: Minamino off, Diallo on.
He will indeed. It's as if he read this live text! Diallo is coming on.
Will Hasenhuttl look to make a change soon for fresh legs? Those nine outfield players will be feeling it a bit now.
These celebrations will feel like a long time ago for the Saints now. Leicester are pressing.
- OffLuke ThomasLeicester City
- OnMarc AlbrightonLeicester City
LEICESTER CHANGE: Albrighton on for Thomas.
Iheanacho goes some way to making up for the hand ball that led to Southampton's opener with that delightful assist. Nw, can he make it 15 goals in 15 matches and snare a winner for the visitors? Their tails are up now.
- GoalJonny EvansLeicester City
GOAL! Evans arrives on cue to level matters with a super header from Iheanacho's lovely cross from the right.
SAVE! Perez takes down a half-cleared corner and curls a shot towards the far corner that McCrthy does well to tip away.
CLOSE! Evans is a whisker away from getting on the end of Soyuncu's flick-on from a right-wing corner.
Maddison tries a speculative 35-yard shot that takes a nick of a defender and flies wide. He's lucky to get a corner from that. McCarthy had it covered all day long.
Leicester need to start stepping it up a gear if they want to leave here with three points. They simply haven't done enough in the final third so far.
That's a real turn up for the books. The 10-men have the advantage and something to try and hang on to now.
- Goal by penaltyJames Ward-ProwseSouthampton
GOAL! Ward Prowse fires his spot kick just beyond the dive of Schmeichel.
PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTON! The free kick is worked short to Armstrong who sees his shot from just inside the area blocked by the high arm of Iheanacho.
Armstrong wins a free kick from Castagne on the far left. It's some respite for those Saints legs and also a chance to pack the box and look for a good delivery from James Ward-Prowse.
At this point in this fixture last season the Saints were 6-0 down with 10-men. It's going much more to Hasenhuttl's liking tonight, but there's still a long, long way to go.
Thomas meets Castagne's deep cross with a looping header but it's far too tame to trouble McCarthy.
ATTEMPTS: Saints 3-5 Foxes.
Leicester have changed shape and no longer have three centre backs, but they are still struggling to really turn the screw and put the Saints under major pressure here.
- Yellow cardTakumi MinaminoSouthampton
STAT: Ayoze Perez has scored seven top-flight goals against Southampton. That's more than against any other side.
- OffWesley FofanaLeicester City
- OnAyoze PérezLeicester City
LEICESTER HT CHANGE: Fofana off, Perez on.
- 2nd Half
KICK OFF! Leicester get us back underway.
- End of 1st Half
HT: Southampton 0-0 Leicester City.
Castagne's cross from the right hits Iheanacho on the back of his head and loops kindly into the arms of McCarthy.
Three minutes added.
Leicester continue to probe and dictate the play. They've had a few corners from the left but Southampton have dealt quite well with the aerial threat of Evans, Soyuncu and Co.
Southampton have that half time break within their sights. Can they get to the interval at 0-0?
Stuart Armstrong sets for a 25-yard shot on a rare Saints foray forward but sees his attempt easily blocked.
SAVE! McCarthy just about keeps Tielemans' low drive out with his legs after some super one-touch play opened the hosts up on the right side of their area.
Southampton are struggling to get out of their won half at times. Maddison picks up a half clearance, spins brilliantly but sees his swerving shot calmly saved by McCarthy.
Iheanacho turns into space 30 yards from goal but his curling effort is straight at McCarthy.
Hasenhuttl will be quite happy with how his team have reacted to going down to 10 men, but he'll be fuming about the decision and the fact his team have to play almost all of the game with such a disadvantage.
Wesley Fofana has gone to the touchline to take on some fluids and have a banana to break his Ramadan fast. Play will now continue.
DID YOU KNOW? The Saints have taken just 10 points from 16 league matches in 2021. That's five points fewer than any other side.
Leicester have posed most of the questions since the sending off but haven't managed to trouble McCarthy yet.
STAT: Leicester are bidding to complete a league double against Southampton for the first time since 2000.
Seems strange that it has been confirmed the red card was for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Vestergaard definitely got the ball. It just looked like the follow-through was nasty.
How big a moment is this going to be come full time?
Redmond cuts inside from the left and hits a swerving shot towards goal that Schmeichel is happy just to parry to safety.
It is a nasty case of deja vu for the home side. Ryan Bertrand was sent off on 12 minutes in the 9-0 defeat to the Foxes....
- OffNathan TellaSouthampton
- OnMohammed SalisuSouthampton
SOUTHAMPTON CHANGE: Tella off, Salisu on. Tella is sacrificed as part of the Saints' defensive reshuffle.
It is Maddison who takes it but his curling effort flashes wide of Alex McCarthy's left-hand post.
Maddison and co are now sizing up the free kick. It's in a central position just outside the area.
Vardy is still limping after some treatment. Rodgers will be hoping it's nothing significant and he can run it off.
That's a huge blow for the hosts. Vestergaard appeared to get the ball but the follow through seems to have convinced the official it's worthy of a straight red.
- Red cardJannik VestergaardSouthampton
RED CARD! Vardy pounces upon on error from Vestergaard and the Saints man brings him down just outside the area.
BIG CHANCE! Tella scuffs a tame strike straight at Schmeichel after Minamino caught out Soyuncu on the edge of his own area. A let off for the away team.
STAT: Southampton have lost 12 of their last 15 league games. Interestinglt, it's a poor run which began with defeat against Leicester.
Kyle Walker-Peters makes a late dash from the right and latches on to Vestergaard's long ball. The visitors appear t be exposed as the Southampton man fires beyond Schmeichel, but the flag is up for offside! Close, but it's the right call.
There was plenty of talk about the 9-0 leading into this encounter but the two teams also met in the FA Cup semi final recently and it was very tight.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! Southampton get us up and running.
Meanwhile, the Saints' miserable run of form has seen them drop to within nine points of the drop zone. It would still be a major shock to see them swap places with Fulham with so few games left to play, but a seventh home league win would be most welcome this evening. It would help banish the memory of that 9-0 too...
A win for Leicester tonight would take them within touching distance of a top-four finish. The Foxes would be 10 points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham with just four games to go, though the Hammers would have a game in hand. Still, it would be another significant step in their quest to dine at Europe's top table next season.
DID YOU KNOW? Leicester have won three Premier League games in a row at St. Mary's, including last season's top-flight record 9-0 away win.
Caglar Soyuncu: “It makes it special when you’re happy playing with the players that are with you. We learn from each other a lot, we have a great relationship and we are trying to continue in this happy way. It’s difficult sometimes to keep this going, but we are doing our best to do that. I would like to thank them as well for being there."
Che Adams on how Southampton can try to improve their form: “The main thing is to come out flying because that’s what we’re so good at. Pressing high up and the energy in the squad, but it’s just about consistency, which is the hardest thing in football."
More on the In-form Iheanacho: The Foxes frontman has netted 14 goals in his last 14 outings. He could become the first Leicester player other than Jamie Vardy to notch in four Premier League games in a row. Not bad when you consider he had not scored in the league before February and had previously gone a year without a goal.
Rodgers on Kelechi Iheanacho: “Even before I came here, there were moans and groans when he came onto the pitch. But I don’t think there’s any now when you look at what he’s producing and delivering. That’s a huge testament to Kelechi’s mentality. It’s not surprising because he is a really talented player. What’s great is that he’s taken the opportunity. And he’s flourished with it, it was about keeping his belief and his confidence.”
Ralph Hasenhuttl on Brendan Rodgers being linked with the likes of Spurs: “It is more about having fun in your job and I think in the moment he definitely enjoys his job at Leicester. He has everything he wants. He is successful with a very strong side and they are maybe part of the Champions League next season. What more do you want as a manager?”
Leicester are unchanged from their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace (and for the third game on the spin). Meanwhile, Southampton make three changes from the clash with Spurs. Nathan Redmond, Takumi Minamino and Jack Stephens come in. As has been widely reported, striker Danny Ings is out with a thigh problem.
