Aubameyang comes off to a standing ovation to be replaced by Martinelli.
Ramsey has another effort at goal, this time he has space in the box to shoot with his left foot but directs his shot wide of the target.
A deep throw from Cash drops on the six-yard box and Watkins just misses getting a strong contact with the ball which would have been a certain goal.
GOAL FOR VILLA! And what a goal. The ball fell to Ramsey's feet on the D of the penalty area after Bailey drove horizontally across the field and the midfielder curled a beautiful goal into the top left corner leaving Ramsdale with no chance.
Ings comes on to replace El-Ghazi for Villa.
Maitland-Niles comes on to replace Lokongo who has had a fine game.
A fine cross from Tavares to the far post but Oedegaard can't find a team-mate with a header back into the box.
Aubameyang shoots from the corner of the penalty area but Ramsdale dives up to his left to tip away.
Oedegaard comes on for Lacazette who signalled to the bench he had to come off injured. Ramsey comes on for Buendia for Villa.
If it wasn't for Mings, Villa could have a huge lead. Aubameyang plays in Saka down the left and he puts in a low cross which the England defender clears on the stretch.
Buendia is found running into the box by a superb low diagonal ball from Cash but Ramsdale spreads himself and stops the shot with his left leg.
Tavares plays a one-two with Aubameyang and then nearly gets the ball across to Saka but Mings clears.
Cash is booked for a foul on Saka from behind.
GOAL FOR ARSENAL! A fine move for Arsenal on the break sees Tavares play the ball into Aubamyeng on the halfway line and he flicks the ball on to Smith-Rowe who races down the left flank then cuts inside and sees his shot deflect off Mings wrong-footing Martinez, clip the post and slide into the net.
Lokonga again races through the middle and puts through Saka but Cash gets in a good challenge. Lokonga then picks up the ball and shoots from 20 yards but Martinez gathers easily.
Buendia gets to the by-line and pulls back to Ings but his shot is blocked by White.
At the other end, Aubameyang races down the left and cuts back to Lacazette who feeds Lokonga to shoot from the edge of the box but it is deflected wide of the target.
Watkins dribbles into the box and then pulls back to Ings who goes down in the box but nothing given.
Bailey came on for Tuanzebe at half time.
Great ball from Buendia over the top for Watkins who races down the left flank before shooting at goal and it is put behind for a corner.
Villa get us back underway...
Arsenal are good value for the scoreline but a harsh way for it to happen for Villa.
PENALTY SAVED! REBOUND SCORED! Martinez saves Aubameyang's kick diving to his right. A great save. But the Arsenal striker moves to his left to follow up and slams it hime.
PENALTY GIVEN! It was not a decision that would have been given without VAR but Lacazette did get his foot in the way of Targett's as he was swinging his boot to clear the ball.
VAR Check! The referee is looking at the screen to see if there was a penalty when Targett cleared the ball as Lacazette was closing onto it.
McGinn takes the free kick but it is easily gathered by Ramsdale.
Lokonga goes into the book for a blatant pull of McGinn's shirt as he was approaching the Arsenal box.
Again Partey meets a corner at the front post but this time gets a good contact with his header - and it flies over the bar.
Lokonga runs through the middle of the field and plays in Lacazette who is dispossessed by Tuanzebe.
Lokonga shoots from 25 yards out but it is easy for Martinez to save.
A booking for McGinn who leaves a foot in on Lokonga.
Great chance from Saka. A fine save from Martinez but surely he had to bury it. Smith-Rowe on the break plays in Tavares who delivers a perfect low cross to the back post where Saka tries to shoot across Martinez but the Villa keeper gets an outstretched leg to the ball to save.
Saka almost plays through Aubameyang but Mings blocks the through-ball. Mings is then booked for an earlier foul on Lacazette.
GOAL FOR ARSENAL! Smith-Rowe's corner is met at the front post by Partey who misses his header but it deflects off his shoulder and through Martinez's left hand and into the Villa net.
Tierney is a loss, but Tavares is a very exciting addition to the side, here his effort from long range is deflected wide.
Off the bar! Saka's free kick is inadvertently flicked on by Mings, then deflects off Konsa into the path of Partey who launches into a flying volley which has Martinez beaten but comes back off the bar.
Tomiyashu shoots from outside the box but wide of the target.
An Arsenal corner sees Martinez on his back but no faoul was given and Smith-Rowe's shot from the edge of the box was blocked.
Arsenal have the ball in the net but it is disallowed for a foul on Konsa from Lacazette - and it was the right decision. Lacazette then fed Aubameyang who slammed the ball home.
Really exciting start from Arsenal, On this occasion White runs 60 yards with the ball before setting up Smith-Rowe who plays in Tavares behind the defence, but he cannot get a good cross into the box.
Almost a dream start for Tavares, he dispossesses Cash on the left flank then races towards goal before firing wildly wide from a narrow angle.
Great chance for Arsenal. Saka clips the ball to the back post where Aubameyang tries a spectacular scissor kick when he might have headed the ball and only succeeds in passing the ball back to Saka who then fires over the bar first time.
Drama in the first minute as Watkins throws Gabriel to the floor after the defender shielded the ball back to his keeper. The England striker gets a booking.
Arsenal get us underway...
Arsenal are available at around even money to win tonight while Villa can be backed at 3/1, with the draw at a similar price.
A bad omen for Dean Smith's side...
Very much a mid-table game at this stage of the season, Arsenal 12th and Villa 13th. The winner could move up to 9th for at least 24 hours.
As well as Tavares' full debut, Arsenal bring in Albert Sami Lokonga and Alexandre Lacazette for Martin Odegaard and Nicolas Pepe who both drop to the bench.
Villa start with the same eleven which had them ten minutes away from a comfortable vicotry over Wolves, before the disastrous end to the game for Dean Smith's side.
Arsenal are without one of their stars in Kieran Tierney, he is replaced by Nuno Tavares makes his debut at left back. Bakary Saka has passed a fitness test though.
These are the Villans who will face the Gunners...
This is the Arsenal side who will take the field at the Emirates in 45 minutes or so...
