One minute of additional time... Azpilicueta goes down under the channel of Cancelo at the back post... nothing doing says Michael Oliver.
Four minutes added.
Delicious cross from Azpilicueta... Lukaku! The ball just evades his head.
Grealish bears down on goal... this could be the moment... Mendy stays big and stops him. Huge save.
De Bruyne's delivery... Laporte! Had to score.
Grealish wins the corner off Azpilicueta really well, spinning in behind his Spanish counterpart.
Kovacic on the run with the block... well covered by Dias, but great hold-up play intiially from Lukaku.
de Bruyne's nutmeg on Silva... Grealish's outside of the boot cross... Jesus.... de Bruyne again! Blocked, corner.
Alonso to take it again... in it comes... Dias away, back in by Kovacic, back out to Alonso, but an awful cross hinders any kind of attacking momentum buiilt.
Alonso...off de Bruyne in the wall... corner.
Alonso over this set piece for Chelsea. Big moment here for the European champions.
- Yellow cardAymeric LaporteManchester City
Lukaku wins the free-kick on the edge of the area, and wins the foul off Laporte on the turn. The Frenchman is booked as well.
Goal! Is it? No. Lovely ball from Christensen, knocked down by Alonso, Havertz finds Lukaku with the square pass, but the German was offside in the build-up.
What a move by City..., Grealish does incredibly to find Cancelo whilst falling, and the early low cross is cleared unconvincingly by Mendy... for Jesus on the rebound! What a block by Thiago Silva off the line!
- OffN'Golo KantéChelsea
- OnKai HavertzChelsea
Kai Havertz is coming on for the Blues. N'Golo Kante is the man to come off; 3-4-2-1 is the new shape.
Nicely held up by Kante... Jorginho out to Azplilicueta... Lukaku down the right channel... looks for Werner in the middle and cleared well by Rudiger.
Grealish... teasing Azpilicueta... onto his right somehow under the watchful eye of Kante... and Mendy stops it curling inside the far post! What a move from the £100 million man.
Kovacic, slips away from Bernardo Silva... slides in Werner, has he? Ederson is quick out.
Corner, Chelsea. Alonso's delivery is cleared by de Bruyne with a considerable level of ease at the near post.
Free kick, Chelsea. Jorginho is caught by the goalscorer Jesus.
How will Chelsea react now? Let's see. They have to open up now.
- GoalGabriel JesusManchester City
GOALLLL!!!!! They've gone short, and it's paid off, of sorts! de Bruyne got it back from Silva, finding Cancelo on the edge of the area, he sits his man down and strikes initially, it falls for Jesus who does well to shield the ball just inside the area, he shifts his body, hits the shot and it flicks off Jorginho and spins past Mendy. 1-0.
Cancelo does well against Silva and Azpilicueta down the City left to earn the corner.
This is my point about Chelsea's negativity. Werner finds himself in space and receives the pass, but there's no help for him as he's quickly leapt upon by three recovering City defenders.
Bernardo Silva's whipped cross, well headed away by Thiago Silva ahead of Jack Grealish.
It's still too conservative from Chelsea back in these early exchanges. Kante, Mendy and Jorginho all guilty of misplaced, sideways passes.
- 2nd Half
We're back underway.
- End of 1st Half
There's half time. City have dominated, Chelsea have defended stoutly, but most importantly, it's 0-0 here. Back in 15.
Jesus does well again to win the corner off Rudiger, but the chance came after again the ball doesn't stick well enough on either Chelsea striker. Werner the guilty party this tiime.
Lovely ball wide from Jorginho to Azpilicueta... but he's got to cross it early there! Lukaku was crying out for it!
Foden... nicely clipped onto the chest of Jesus... he's taken it down well, shooting with his left on the half turn! Blazed over.
Cancelo... wonderful ball with the outside of his boot... de Bruyne! He can't find the touch needed.
Rare ball for Chelsea in the final third - Rudiger tries an audacious chipped ball in behind Grealish, looking for Azpilicueta in behind the City winger, but the former Aston Villa man is fortunate enough tp keep the Spaniard at bay and get it clear.
Christensen stands strong against Grealish to win the corner for City, which is taken by de Bruyne, but there's too much on the cross.
Foden's corner...Dias! Jorginho away, and again to deal with Foden's second-time cut-back.
Rodri... neat play in the transition from City... the midfielder gets it back from Grealish, and he shoots! Blocked again. Corner.
Walker... that's a lovely, fizzed ball through the lines into de Bruyne, who spins on a sixpence and strikes! Well blocked, Toni Rudiger.
- OffReece JamesChelsea
- OnThiago SilvaChelsea
Thiago Silva will replace James, with captain Azpilicueta moving out to right wing-back.
Reece James is down again after that challenge from Grealish earlier.
Cancelo does really well down the left with a positive burst to win the corner.
Kante... loses out... Grealish... challenged superbly by the Frenchman. He's so good at that. Great recovery.
Strong header away by Rudiger after a dangerous Cancelo inswinger that looped towards Jesus at the back post.
Werner tries to spin Dias with a neat turn, but the Portuguese stands firm, with the German appealing. Michael Oliver waves play on.
Werner... driving infield from the left... but he strikes it! Good block from Kyle Walker.
Azpilicueta's clearance lands at the feet of Lukaku, who brings Alonso into the play... Wener... is in here... he's tried to play in his strike partner! Cancelo covering well on the recovery.
Cancelo... lovely ball through to de Bruyne, who pulls it back... but Bernardo Silva isn't quick enough on the mark.
City are still looking so sharp in possession. Theyre knocking it neatly and confidently from side to side, looking for that penetrative pass into the pocket for any of their creative outlets, be it a wide man or free-roaming eight.
Finally, some possession for Chelsea. Jorginho finds Rudiger, who fires a ball quickly into Werner's feet, but his compatriot can't retain possession after an initially good first touch.
Foden's delivery is held well by Edouard Mendy.
More CIty pressure, as Jesus wins the corner after a strong challenge from Antonio Rudiger.
Jesus's cross is dealt with well by Azpilicueta, who puts it out for the early corner. Aggressive start from City. Silva's corner is dealt with competently by Lukaku back there for Chelsea.
It seems to be the false nine system for City, as expected. Foden is there centrally, and Jesus off to the right.
Christensen does well to shepherd the ball dead under early pressure from Foden.
- 1st Half
We're underway. What a game this should be.
The players are out, the anticipation builds.
Five minutes to kick off, Stamford Bridge is rocking. Goosebumps? Nerves? How're you feeling, Chelsea and City fans?
4-3-3 for the visiting champions. As aforementioned, Joao Cancelo is at left-back, with Bernardo Silva joining Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri in the middle of the park. Jack Grealish and Phil Foden, on paper, should be operating off the flanks, but don't be surprised to see Gabriel Jesus out on the right, where he has flourished in recent weeks, out of the central striking spotlight he had been heavily scrutinised under. Hence, we could well see Foden or de Bruyne rotating into that false nine role.
Could Champions League hero King Kai make the difference off the bench today?
10 minutes to go.
3-5-2 shape for Chelsea, a slightly more cautious approach to their ordinary 3-4-2-1. The pace of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku together could really stretch the City defence, Kyle Walker will seek to nullify that with his recovery pace sweeping up, and Joao Cancelo should be covered nicely on the left as he drives infield in his inverted wing-back role by the dogged presence of Bernardo Silva.
Pep has been having a chat about his team selection: "Aymeric [Laporte] and Rodri made an incredible effort to be here, Kevin [De Bruyne] and Phil [Foden] are so important to us, but at the same time so are other players that are important, everyone is here. The season's too long, many games, and everyone's involved.
Tuchel has certainly had Pep's number recently but the Chelsea boss believes City are still the team to beat. “We can never lose intensity or focus against Pep’s teams,” Tuchel said. “It’s simply impossible. I expect another 50-50 match.”
Pep Guardiola also makes four changes, as Aymeric Laporte, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden feature from the start, with Nathan Ake, Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling taking their place on the bench.
Thomas Tuchel makes FOUR changes to the Chelsea side which won at Tottenham last weekend. Edouard Mendy comes in for Kepa, with Reece James, N'Golo Kante and Timo Werner also handed starting berths. Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz drop to the bench while Mason Mount is injured.
Chelsea XI: Mendy, James, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic, Werner, Lukaku.. subs: Kepa, Thiago Silva, Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah, Saul Niguez, Hudson-Odoi, Chilwell, Ziyech, Havertz. /// Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Foden, Grealish, Jesus.. subs: Steffen, Stones, Ake, Sterling, Torres, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Palmer, Lavia
